A new report says that Sprint has ended its leasing program for Android phones. The wireless operator will continue to offer a leasing option for the Apple iPhone 6, Apple iPhone 6 Plus, Apple iPhone 6s, Apple iPhone 6s Plus, Apple iPhone 7 and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. Wave7 Research has told its subscribers that Sprint has stopped offering leasing for the Samsung Galaxy S7, and has ended its Galaxy Forever program which required that Sprint customers lease the latest Galaxy S handset.

Sprint has been inconsistent with its announcements. In January, the nation's fourth largest carrier did away with two-year contracts and started offering a leasing option. One month later, the contracts were back. CEO Marcelo Claure had previously noted that the by the end of this year, Sprint would be offering its customers device-leasing exclusively; that appears to be out.

A Sprint spokesman refused to confirm whether it has in fact ended leasing of Android phones. In an email, a spokesman promoted the carrier's equipment installment plans. "Sprint offers $0 down (for qualified customers), interest free option on our installment billing product which is on all handsets. We work to ensure that our customers have as many options as possible to pay for their device in the most affordable way."

Thanks to a deal with Sprint's parent SoftBank, the latter had created a handset leasing company that provided the wireless operator with $1.1 billion in cash. This was done to allow Sprint to keep the financing of the leased handsets off of Sprint's balance sheet.

:"Sprint has been slowly moving away from leasing, as in late June, Sprint discontinued leasing with the popular GS7 Edge and the Galaxy Forever upgrade program – which was available for four months – was also discontinued. Leasing was not available with new devices launched by Sprint in recent months, including the iPhone SE, the LG G5, and the HTC 10."-Wave7 Research

I'm ok with contracts coming back. I was just going to keep my galaxy until the joint stopped working. I'm not paying retail for a damn cell phone.

They got me with that leasing bullshit! Getting rid of leasing isn't getting rid of installment plans. It was some slick shit they pulled and I'm glad it's gone. It's like a traditional lease except you pay the full amount of the device over the leasing terms, then are expected to relinquish the device or pay extra money to "own". Back to annual upgrade for me

Sprint has no idea what it's doing and have no direction

They're throwing anything at the wall hoping it sticks hoping the can catch up with T-Mobile
Agreed!!! They definitely dont have standing direction on where they wanna go...

yea I work for sprint. no more leasing for android phones at all. the only phones that can be lease is iPhones now. but to be honest at least at my store, a lot of customers don't like leasing anyway they want to own their phones at the end so it really not that much of a big deal. but the negative is you have to pay the taxes up front

Yo Esco, what's up with some info on getting a deal on the androids. Special code or something kid. It don't make no sense to have to pay the prices they charge for these phones.

I'd rather pay more for quality. Not dropped calls and shitty speeds.

T-MOBILE and AT&Fee have the shitiest service.

I have a Version work phone and Sprint personal. There are very few places where one works and the other doesn't, however it alternates between the two.

They gave me an AT&Fee first but the service was so bad from late emails and missed calls swapped it out within a month.

U do not pay the full amount ovwr the lease term. I get a new iphone every

The Sprint staff never know any details how the program works, I will stick with Verizon.

I wish there were some codes I could use. I'm losing customers since people don't want to pay the tax up front. kain what do you need to know ? we do have some awesome deals if you port over to sprint 50 % off your bill

Maybe where you live, but nationwide it's not even debatable that AT&T has better coverage than T-Mobile and Sprint

LOL what a shitty ass company
sprint is the only phone company that should've had a reality show yrssss ago..they sprint stores use to have some of the best segments of anger btw customers and workers..so many arguments, a few fights, many death threats..sprint shitty service is legendary..everybody i kno that's dealt with them has always gotten a mysterious 200 dollar or more bill that sprint never can't explain..the chirp phone was it's only great moment and the company should've of died after the chirp became useless

Let some months pass and get the phone you want on Ebay or Amazon.

They have good $400 Android phones from Chinese companies

Acquiring Nextel fucked them up.

It was antiquated technology and they gained nothing and had to push billions to get Nextel up to par and in line, in the mean time their own network suffered, they bypassed phones and they lost more ground to Verizon and AT&T.

It looked good on paper and they thought it got them a lot of business users, but it was terrible

Don't forget going with Wimax trying to be first with 4G instead of waiting on the wimax/lte battle to take shape.

They had to take down two networks (wimax & Nextel) in a five year period.

Yep, those two and going all in on the Palm Pre fucked them up along with the Evo 3D

They also never properly marketed the Hero or Evo, because they were bleeding money

Verizon was able to get over not having the iPhone, because they had the best network.

I hate this. I'm trying to leave AT&T but some of these replies got me thinking twice.

Left Sprint for AT&T and my speeds and service are a lot better

I can't see leaving AT&T for anyone other than Verizon

T-Mobile maybe depending on your area and if you only go to metro areas

With me it was the exact opposite. Got caught up in the iPhone hype so when it first dropped I left sprint for AT&T :angry:never again. Fuck AT&T I wish I had dropped calls with AT&T. Shit I wasn't receiving calls at all, joints would go straight to voicemail:smh: so there is no telling how many calls I missed when a person just wouldn't leave a message. Me and my wife both had the same problem. We ran back to sprint. It depends on your area I guess:dunno: FUCK AT&T!

Leave and go where? What cell company isn't shitty or overpriced these days....
Project fi. yeah, its limited in what phones can be activated on their service (some have reported that non nexus phones can be activated, but a specific function is missing). But it works for me. clear reception, great data plans (i average $35 a month in the 6 months ive been with them), wifi calling, you basically control your data usage.

All about location...at my job Sprint is the only carrier that can make phonr calls and have decent 4g..Verizon and Att cant even make calls
