Improving your Credit and Credit Score

It used to happen a lot. Occasionally credit cards will offer 0% APR on balance transfers for 'X' number of months. Here is the best way to take advantage of those promotions. You need 2 credit cards (Card A & Card B). Card A offers a promotion of 6-12 month 0% interest on all balance transfers. Call Card A and have them transfer up to your entire credit limit to Card B. It will take a few days, but the entire amount will show up as a credit on Card B (assuming you didn't previously have a balance). Call Card B and have them transfer that credit to your regular bank account. Leave that money in savings or put it in a CD. Pay the minimum payments on Card A until the month prior to the promotion rate is over and repay the remaining balance (I'd advice you not to use Card A during the promotion period to keep things simple). I did this a couple of years ago and basically borrowed $25K for 12 months and didn't pay any interest on it (it was a NFCU Visa promotion). I put the money in a Money Market account that yielded 2% interest for the year. So the bank essentially just gave me $500.

Thanks, BROTHER!

I appreciate you putting me up on game.

somebody posted something about signing up to join the naval credit union..... they said something about spending $25 to be some sort of member in something associated with it to get in or something to that effect.

Pookie,

I didn't even see this post.

I just shot you some info on Navy Federal Credit Union.

They are not a sub-prime lender.

What this person stated about going from 500's to 720 is possible. But it would depend on a few things:
  • paying off bills
  • deletion of derogatory entries
  • greater credit limits...bigger!
  • reduction of utilization
  • time during month any of the above occur
All or a combination of theses could cause the score jump.

i thought the chick was bullshittin', still do honestly, but you're actually saying it's possible to jump 200 points in under 30 days:eek2:. I think i'd be scared to have a credir card with a $20,000 limit

peace pookie,

It would depend on what a person has on their report.

But if you got collections, tax leins, late payments, charge offs, other negative entries. If these are deleted during the 30 day period,
its possible.

But its a entire dispute process, of letter writing for some derog. Phone calls to credit bureaus for some disputes.

And most definitely some pre-planning work to be done, before you start attempting to clean the report.

If you have the money to pay debt good or bad. And you request a "pay for deletion" for bad debt!

You can definitely jump several 100 points in 1 month.

But high limit credit cards, assist you in getting others. Which lower your utility. Which in-turns will assist in raising credit score.
So don't be worried about a $20k limit.

I got a question. ive been a heavy credit board reader over the last few months. I have two items left to remove a medical bill and something thats going to fall off next month. Will I still need to pay this to buy a home or shuold i just let it fall off ? Thanks

As long as your responsible, there isn't anything to be scared of. And you have to prove that you're responsible prior to getting a $20K+ limit in the first place. I have 4 major credit cards (3 Visas & 1 AMEX) along with various store credit cards. I don't bother using the store credit cards unless they're offering a promotion that will save or make me money. I'd have to look at my credit report to know how much credit is available on my various store credit cards, but the total credit available on my 4 major credit cards is $68K with the highest limit being $25K. Back in April I charged my wife's new Accord to a credit card, got 1.5% of the total cost back in cash rewards (a little over $360), and paid the balance at the end of the billing cycle.

BROTHER,

You really be working the interest and rewards aspect of the game. Its kats on the creditboard that have it down to a science.

I will keep my ears open as you teach!

"I have two items left to remove a medical bill and something thats going to fall off next month."

How old is the medical bill? How much is owed?
A guy called "WHY CHAT" over at credit boards has a entire process for removing medical collection debts. The success rate is very high with his process.
I'm not very familiar with it, but if you search the board its multiple threads about it.

The item falling off next month I would not touch it. Just let it fall naturally.

"Will I still need to pay this to buy a home or should i just let it fall off ? Thanks"

When are you looking to purchase?

The the credit bureau search for a mortgage is very thorough and may uncover things you were unaware of. Also most recommend no major purchases on credit 6 months before the home purchase. Pay your cc balances off or down to almost nothing 1st.

Its a few real estate agents on the line who might be able to chime in with some solid advice about the financial preparation for a home purchase.

Ive been reading credit boards so you know im hip to Why chats method its only 28 dollars and only reporting to one CRA so Ive already sent the hand written dispute so im waiting to see the out come of that. Ive already opted out and cleaned up old names so Im working that process. Now.

Ive read mixxed information about this one thats due to fall off. I have a copy of my lexis nexis report and its not on there. I plan on buying in march or april somewhere in there my cards are low balances work the 2 dollar trick on a round robin utilization is always 1%

What is the mixed information you read about the item dropping off?

I see you on it BROTHER. I didn't even want to venture into the lexis nexis and $2 balance with kats.

I maybe should include the lexis nexis as part of pre-planning to clean report. I was trying to keep it simple.

Sounds, like you on the right track. That Why Chat method works well from what I have heard. Utilization looks good.

Unless some unknown shit pops up, congratulations.

Enjoy your new home.

yeah that was the plan just wanted a different persecutive

Help educate i say the utilization was a piece i wasn't clear on i was paying the card off every month that was not helping me at all so the 2 dollar trick is important. Also Lexis Nexis report to me is something that everyone should be up on. Maybe its 201 class that only niggas oh's finished that 101 course study is done with but keep the education up.

The mixed info is lots of people have told me that any and all collections will have to be paid no matter if they have fallen off your credit or not. That makes me question the lexis nexis report cause how else would they know. Im going to stick with logic no worry about it work that why chat and buy a house.

Peace,

I heard the same.

All debts that show on the mortgage search must be paid.

Even if they have dropped off the report they may show on the mortgage search. I think you can do a preliminary search. That gives you an idea what is happening.

But I'm sure a real estate agent from the line can assist with the question.

PS

I think I will start adding the lexis nexis to the pre-planning stuff.

The 2 dollars trick works wonders. I have 5 cards, i let report 1 a 2 dollar balance every month when the statement cuts, if you let all cards report a zero balance then fico will drop your score so always let a small balance report on 1 card then pay it off before the due date to avoid paying interest

Peace BROTHER,

I use that trick also.

But this works once you have clean reports and no derogs.

This would be an advanced technique.

Maybe that's why my score has been dropping steadily. I have many dormant cards.

BROTHER,

If you have 5 cards maybe put a bill on each which you pay each month. That helps keep them active and in use.

They will cancel cards for lack of activity/use

Maybe set your checking to auto pay so you don't have to worry. Set it so 1 keeps a $2 balance.

If you have no derogs you should a bump in scores the next time your scores update.

Just let 1,report a 2 dollar balance and you will see a decent score jump.

I had a card that I didn't use for 11 months and I used it and paid off the balance before the statement cut, Equifax gave me an alert for a 15 point score jump for using a dormant card

Good info on that dormant card!

Thanks. I have about 6 dormant cards with large limits. I'll start using each of them to pay a recurring bill each month.

this woman said she went from low 500's to 700's in 30 days and just got a credit card with $20,000 limit:cool:

i would want to see more information about this.

it is possible to get a huge jump in one month on your credit scores. but almost 200 points???

but i call total bullshit on having 5xx credit scores and getting a nearly 20k visa 30 days later. even it is is from navy federal. something i find fishy about the offer is that it says $0 cash limit. a 20k cc will have some form of cash available. maybe this is a secured or partially secured card.

I jumped into this thread or one like it back in 2005 under a different screen name. I had never done a credit check and was supprise to what mine looked like. I took the advice from the thread and have a great score today. Bgol is good man! Credit scores is the the new Jim Crow. I wasn't trying to let whitey slow me down.

 So she finally got her credit fixed and the first thing she does is get a new credit card?

as silly as it sounds that was the right move.

you have to manage credit properly. not spend money that you don't have. if you don't have the cash to pay in full each month then you probably should not use credit for it.

but in order to do anything nowadays you need a good credit profile and if you don't have credits cards and loans with good payment history you don't have good credit.

if you go to creditboards you will see people that don't make alot of money with great credit scores and 10's of thousands of dollars of available credit. they don't live beyond their means. and that is the key. great credit opens many doors unavailable to people with average, poor or no credit.

On CK they under their recommendations to improve my credit score it keeps showing me offers for more credit cards and $5000 loans. i keep saying i already have one credit card and don't really need the cash loan but now i think i might just go on and get them

be careful with credit karma.

Application for credit should always have purpose.
