Robert Griffin III sprains shoulder, says he'll be OK for Week 2

PHILADELPHIA - Robert Griffin III left Lincoln Financial Field with a sprained left shoulder Sunday, the quarterback said at his postgame news conference following the Cleveland Browns 29-10 season-opening loss to the Eagles.

"The play happened, and you just got to move on from it," Griffin said. "You know, sprained shoulder. Just gotta monitor it and see how it goes."

Griffin said he "hurt pretty bad" after he was hit by cornerback Jalen Mills at the end of an 11-yard run with 3 minutes, 41 seconds left and the Browns down 22-10. He also said he was in pain as he spoke postgame.

"We'll see more tomorrow, see how my shoulder's feeling and I'll go from there," Griffin said.

The Browns said Griffin will undergo more tests on his left shoulder, which at least brings his availability into question for Sunday's game against Baltimore.

Griffin did not use his left arm a lot as he was getting dressed. At one point, he reached across his body with his right arm to take something out of his left pocket.

He finished dressing in the training room after taking his shirt in with him. Trainers also were paying close attention to Griffin after the game, which would be typical, given Griffin's description of his sprain.

"I can move my left arm," Griffin said. "I'm in pain, but I'll be OK."

Griffin had been criticized during his tenure in Washington for not sliding or protecting himself, something Browns coach Hue Jackson had demanded he do in Cleveland.

In the preseason, Griffin slid early and often, and he was praised by Jackson for doing so. But on this late scramble, he didn't head directly to the sidelines or slide -- even though there was room to do both.

"I was trying to get out of bounds," Griffin said. "He kind of just surprised me there. I feel like I had done a decent job of protecting myself recently. I wanted to continue that. To get hit him that moment kind of surprised me there."

It almost looked like Griffin ran right into Mills, who had little choice but to make the tackle at the Browns 15-yard-line.

Mills said Griffin got to him quickly. "As soon as I saw him get out of the pocket, the tight end got up on me and I shed the block on him," Mills said. "Next thing I know he was right behind the blocker."

"Just an unfortunate play," Griffin said. "Just trying to fight for as many yards as we could. Try to go score a touchdown and put us in the best position to try to win the game. It hurt pretty bad."

Griffin stayed in the game as the Browns went for the first down on fourth-and-4, but he took another shot throwing incomplete to Andrew Hawkins. Griffin was examined after going to the sidelines, but he did not want to leave the game. He returned for the Browns' final three offensive plays, but Jackson did not take a chance and called three runs.

As Griffin stood at the podium for his postgame news conference, his cell phone rang.

"It's my mother," Griffin said with a smile. "She's really worried about me."

He's lucky it wasn't worse with the way his neck snapped back when he got hit :smh:

Looking at the game yesterday, as well as his weak ass preseason, I hate to say it, but RG3 is a bum at this point. Overthrowing everybody, has lost a step due to injuries...
As much as I wanted him to succeed its obvious he's done as anything more than a 3-4th tier QB IF he reaches the full potential of what he has left...

this stuff here is why we gave up on him. He will not work on his flaws. at this point, he's as good as he's ever going to be.

Dude at this stage of his career these types of rudimentary mistakes don't apply to the its only one game logic. He's been in the league too long to get that pass Bruh. He is who he is...

He didn't play the last 2 years hardly and the year before that he was rookie of the year..

Talk to me week 5

These are still fundamental issues bro. Nobody saying he should be out there throwing for five touchdowns and 400 yards a game, but these are basic mistakes that most quarterbacks learn in college or maybe their first couple of years in the league, or at least most of the better quarterback to do. He may not even be on the field come week 5 bro, not just with this sliding issue, but dude has been inaccurate since the preseason. He's done.

He's rusty and the Oline is ass.. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt

Believe it or not. This is Rg3's 5th season. Time flies its crazy.

Anyway as far as the hit where he got hurt. It was wierd because at first it looked like RG was the one that ran into the defender.....but what happened is Mills was probably shielded from RG's view as he was headed to the sideline, because the TE was blocking Mills...then it must have looked like Mills came out of nowhere once the block was shed and the collision happened.

Can't really blame that on Bob.

Eagles offense , rookie qb had their way on the browns

As a Browns fan, Varis is right. We got a team full of young dudes on both sides of the ball plus another 13 or so picks in the draft next season. That loss was more based on the inexperience of the rookies vs RGIII fucking up. The O Line was leaky as hell.

man im like they clearly didnt see the hit

Browns have no defense

Yeap...but I wouldn't put all the blame on the defense, because the game was close til the offense started fucking up.

The game went out of hand, right after the center snapped the ball over RG3 head and it went into the endzone for a safety

The knock on him coming out of college and Washington seem to be true. Sure, he got away with one season playing 'bat out of hell' QB, but the league adapts to that shit and he ain't built to take hits. Coach isn't playing Josh to give RG3 a legit chance to prove himself. Josh WILLINGLY gave up reps to help RG3.

He'll be on the field unless he gets himself fucked up. Browns want the number 1 pick so they can trade it for some beans.

I just don't get it. Dude knows he's frail. What is he trying to prove!?! You would think in Washington he could've worked with Bryce Harper and learned how to slide!

He thinks he's built like Cam. In reality he's built like your little brother who you don't want playing football.

In the offseason someone needs to give him some, "get yo ass down" lessons.
