Seahawks Considering National Anthem Protest As A Team

Baldwin said the idea was hatched among his teammates in the wake of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the anthem in the preseason as a protest of social inequality.

We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds,” Baldwin explained in the video.

Progress can and will be made only if we stand together.

Progress

Only

How many are going to DO something together

Niggas are scared of revolution

involving white people to determine how to protest other white people?

ha

it's all a joke

I wonder how many white players are going to donate money to black communities?

Or is hugging in a kumbaya circle enough for white players?

Look at the way that the media is spinning it:

Hyde5: Four Dolphins take knee - Seattle team unified

Jeremy Lane, who took a knee during Seattle’s game last week, joined the team in locked arms. So the players agreed to act like a team with one voice here.

On the Dolphins, four players - Arian Foster, Kenny Stills, Michael Thomas and Jelani Jenkins - stood during a ceremony for the 9-11 victims on Sunday’s 15th anniversary. They then dropped to a knee at the start of the anthem. The rest of the team stood.

Reshad Jones had said Foster spoke to the team this week with the hope whatever the Dolphins did - or didn't do - they would do as a team. But as opposed to Seattle it looks like the Dolphins players couldn’t agree on what to do as a team on what to do (or not do).

On the bigger issue of social statements, it’s a free country and everyone gets to have their say – including those people who are criticizing players for disrespecting the flag.

After Stills dropped a wide-open pass that would've gone for a 71-yard touchdown, Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich tweeted video of it and wrote: "Too worried about kneeling during the anthem #Karma."

My only issue with these forms of protest is if they aren't thought out. Colin Kaepernickhadn’t thought through his thoughts – he is protesting against oppressive police force in America by wearing a T-shirt of Fidel Castro, whose full reign is founded on oppression.

The Dolphins statement is well-worded: “We encourage all members of our organization to stand at attention during the national anthem out of respect and appreciation for the freedoms we are afforded as Americans. We also recognize that it's an individual's right to reflect during the anthem in different ways. We respect these liberties and appreciate the sacrifices that everyone has made for our country, especially on this day of remembrance. We hope today’s events will continue a respectful and thoughtful dialogue in our community on unity, inclusiveness and togetherness.”

These cacs keep stressing the popular phrase "AS A SIGN OF UNITY" as if that is the main thing that the general public is supposed to take away from this.

When it reality, IT IS A PROTEST...AGAINST AMERICAN POLICE BRUTALITY!

Dolphins' Foster, Stills, Jenkins and Thomas kneel during national anthem

Miami Dolphins running back Arian Foster knelt down during the national anthem before Sunday's game at Seattle and was joined by linebacker Jelani Jenkins, wide receiver Kenny Stills and safety Michael Thomas. The players took action three days after Foster led a players-only meeting on how the team would handle itself when the song played.

The Dolphins released a statement shortly after the national anthem.

“We encourage all members of our organization to stand at attention during the national anthem out of respect and appreciation for the freedoms we are afforded as Americans," the statement said.

"We also recognize that it's an individual's right to reflect during the anthem in different ways. We respect these liberties and appreciate the sacrifices that everyone has made for our country, especially on this day of remembrance. We hope today’s events will continue a respectful and thoughtful dialogue in our community on unity, inclusiveness and togetherness.”

It’s unclear what message Foster was trying to convey on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell and strong safety Reshad Jones said Friday they thought a few of their teammates might do something but they weren’t sure what might be done.

The national anthem statements started with San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who said his decision to sit during the national anthem had to do with social injustices to African Americans and other minorities.

Coach Adam Gase took a neutral stance Friday on the topic. He didn’t know what, if anything, was planned because coaches weren’t part of the players-only meeting.

Props to the dolphins, and man without Lynch, the Seahawks are a team of BITCHES. Holding arms to recognize their own oppression

Unity for what? Unity meaning? lol Unify what? The team? Cause that's all it's saying is that this team is unified. but for what cause? They not even saying we united against police brutality. it stinks of white pr people instructing the bucks what to do and they followed along. unity as a team? we know that.
captains lock arms and go to the center of the field for coin tosses.

You can't say that they would've done it with Lynch. He's never spoken out on police brutality and he's stood for every national anthem.

One thing those in the dominant society know to do is co-opt any movement against the power structure :smh:

Y'all forget that in the end this is Russell's team now and his voice has the most influence. So whatever protest that was planned was either going to be watered down if not outright neutralized.

Stop, shit has nothing to do with Russel they weren't going to do shit. That's why outside of Jermey Lane you haven't heard from the usually loud mouths on that team. Where's Michael Bennet? Richard Sherman? Either they've been either quite or political.

Would have been better if they did nothing and let every man express himself how he sees fit

They could of made history along with Kap,but the Seahawks fucked it up.

I don't even root for the Seahawks, but I've always respected them as a team. All of that respect is gone, because they wanted to be on this unity bullshit, while black people are getting killed.

I wouldn't be surprised they did this out of spite, since the 49ers and Seahawks are rivals.

Yup. House niggas. It's really sad. An ugly dyke crakka soccer player and high school football players got more heart than these grown ass men. :smh:

I guess in their minds they have too much to lose, as opposed to h.s. football players or soccer player.
They need to quote Jackie Robinson or Ali who defied defied blind patriotism decades ago.

Somebody needs to give these college educated (for the most part) athletes talking points. They didn't pay attention in history class.
