WASHINGTON ― The Justice Department formally released a damning report on Wednesday detailing the routine abuse inflicted on Baltimore residents by the city’s police department.

Baltimore police regularly performed unconstitutional stops, frisks and arrests ― which disproportionately targeted black residents ― and held an “us-versus-them” mentality, the report says. The Justice Department also found that officers retaliated against citizens, took a lax approach to sexual assault cases, employed excessive force too freely and used slurs against LGBT people.

Here are some of the most damning findings in the report.

A woman with a broken headlight was publicly strip-searched.

STRIP SEARCH OVER A BROKEN HEADLIGHT (p. 33)

Officers “publicly strip-searched a woman following a routine traffic stop for a missing headlight.” They even searched the woman’s anal cavity. They found nothing.

The Justice Department found that officers had been accused more than 60 times of using the word “n****r,” but the Baltimore Police Department didn’t classify the language as a racial slur.

USE OF THE WORD “N****R” WAS NOT CLASSIFIED AS A RACIAL SLUR (p. 67)

More than 100 complaints about alleged use of racial slurs and epithets were not properly classified.

DOJ REPORT
The Baltimore Police Department’s “us-versus-them” mentality led officers to treat the city like a war zone. “You’ve got to be the baddest motherfucker out there,” one officer said, explaining his approach to policing.

None of this should come as a surprise after the FBI reported that white extremist groups and militias had infiltrated police departments. The question is, how do you remove them?

It doesn't get much worse than this because many of these cases are ending up in the courtrooms and the victims are being unjustly convicted. This means you've got multiple levels of corruption at both the police and judicial levels.

Not to mention the young lady that was just killed by SWAT in her apartment in front of her child.

People are making the claim that they waited 7 hours but how long did they wait on the armed Bundys.

And all that over some traffic tickets ...but was it really ?

They did the shit on a doj ride along if that doesn't tell you how they really feel they're above the law nothing will

But now that the doj releases a report confirming what we said forever now what? Are all of those officers who did that going to be immediately fired with no pension like they should be?

Or are they going to sensitivity training for 30 hours and then say they won't do it again while you're looking?

A superior officer told a black cop to mind his business when trying to report this shit.

Now imagine that? Who do you go to if your supervisor is saying don't say shit about our racism
The police? Oh wait...

That was Baltimore county. Lets not compare AssHats and Assholes here. (Not that the county cops aren't above this sort of bullshit) They did wait a long time I have confirmed eyes on that one. The Bundy's should have been blown too smithereens but that was a federal matter and they didn't want to give the far right another Ruby ridge to cry about on Obama's watch. To really understand this thing in B'more you have look at the big picture & history. If you do that you know that the discovery that there are two Baltimores was no surprise. Nearly 50 years a little thing called the Kerner report pointed out the same thing. http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/6545/

“Our Nation Is Moving Toward Two Societies, One Black, One White—Separate and Unequal”: Excerpts from the Kerner Report

President Lyndon Johnson formed an 11-member National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders in July 1967 to explain the riots that plagued cities each summer since 1964 and to provide recommendations for the future. The Commission’s 1968 report, informally known as the Kerner Report, concluded that the nation was “moving toward two societies, one black, one white—separate and unequal.” Unless conditions were remedied, the Commission warned, the country faced a “system of ’apartheid’” in its major cities. The Kerner report delivered an indictment of “white society” for isolating and neglecting African Americans and urged legislation to promote racial integration and to enrich slums—primarily through the creation of jobs, job training programs, and decent housing. President Johnson, however, rejected the recommendations. In April 1968, one month after the release of the Kerner report, rioting broke out in more than 100 cities following the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. In the following excerpts from the Kerner Report summary, the Commission analyzed patterns in the riots and offered explanations for the disturbances. In 1998, 30 years after the issuance of the Report, former Senator and Commission member Fred R. Harris co-authored a study that found the racial divide had grown in the ensuing years with inner-city unemployment at crisis levels. Opposing voices argued that the Commission’s prediction of separate societies had failed to materialize due to a marked increase in the number of African Americans living in suburbs

The big problem here is our criminal justice system being a political football. When it comes to crime we treat the symptoms instead of the disease. It's easier to target the poor and disenfranchised and deprive them of their constitutional rights and throw them into crowded jails and prisons. Then build more prisons. That is a lot easier than addressing poverty. That takes a certain type of Bravery, Intellect, Humanism and basic sense of decency that has eluded 'merica since day one. If the USA was truly represented in the Star Trek Universe we would be some sort of hybrid culture of Klignon and Ferenge. Quick to fight and kill with no shame in profiting from it.

Wonder what Hillary "the great white hope" has to say about this?

They get paid by the hour....Long time my ass.. There was no threat....Wait her out or go away and get her the next time....It was a traffic violation.

Turn off her electric and watter and wait.

Wonder what Hillary "the great white hope" has to say about this?

I would bet something along the lines she had to say in regards to the death penalty.

I know there is racism in the justice system and it needs to change and I am so sorry that you sat on death row and was close to dying for something you didn't do.

But I am still in favor of the death penalty

Your premise is off. Can ants be invaded by ants? If America is racist, how are you shocked that racists invaded racists?

there is nothing in my previous post to indicate I was shocked.

While its probably obvious in reality, its not something that is often

bought up when discussing the over reaction by too many pigs when confronting "black" folk...

its a fact that should always be bought front and center when discussing this issue and not just taken for granted...
