KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A 12-year-old boy has died on a Kansas water slide billed as the world's largest.

Police spokesman Officer Cameron Morgan says the boy died Sunday at the Schlitterbahn Water Park.

Winter Prosapio, spokesperson for Schlitterbahn, said the boy died on the Verrückt water slide, which is promoted as the world's tallest water slide at 168 feet, 7 inches. Speeds down the ride can reach 70 mph.

“We are saddened to share that a young boy died on Verrückt this afternoon,” Prosapio said. "Given that safety is our first priority, we have closed our Kansas City park and we have closed the ride pending a full investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time."

Police and Prosapio did not provide details of how the child died or the child's identity.

Prosapio says the park was closed Sunday and would also be closed Monday while the death is investigated.

"We honestly don't know what happened," Prosapio said. "That's why an investigation, a full investigation, is necessary."

The park's website said Verrückt is the largest water slide in the world, and riders must be at least 54 inches tall. The combined weight of all the people on-board one raft must fall between 400 and 550 pounds. Initially when the ride began running there was an age requirement of 14-years. That age requirement is no longer listed on the park's website for Verrückt. FOX 4 is working to determine when the age requirement was removed. By Sunday evening, Verrückt was no longer listed as an attraction on the park's website.

"All rides are inspected every day actually," Prosapio said. "And our rides are inspected by an outside party before the season starts."

FOX 4 has a crew on the scene and will be adding new information as it is confirmed.

damn thanks. Need that during this difficult time
I WANT MY SON BACK I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS SHIT!!!
well at least they're thinking about us.

How? I just saw a vid on YouTube of the rid... Did his seatbelt become unbuckled?
My assumption... The reason children under 12 can't sit in the front seat of a car with airbags is cause children younger are propelled by their heads.

I've had 2 children that didn't have a seat belt on and flew out the front windshield of a car in an accident.

If this kid, flying down a slide at 70mph and bounced his head on the slide going down could of had a concussion or going head first could of snapped his neck.

decapitated
Seriously? Awful if true. :smh:
I don't get why they have to close the whole park for one accident
Because you have no business or common sense.
Probably went flying off.

I watched a show years ago where they build waterslides and test them with tires and they were flying right out the slide. That turned me away from water parks
Once saw a blooper reel of someone flying over the edge of one of those things. Vowed to never get one after that.

I don't even do amusement parks.
Took my kids to SeaWorld when they were younger and my son LOVED the water but he said he thought he was about to go over and he refused to get on anything else that day or since. He's 27 and still talks about it.

When I was a kid, my brother dumbass almost drowned in The Wave at Geauga Lake. I was mad because my father made us go home after that. It was just like 3 o'clock.

Didn't know cocoa had a son..... Man I've missed a lot on here.....

SN: Milf?! ........ Haha

:lol:Your dad was like 'I can't take yall anywhere....we alllll going on'.
Naw, my dad was an asshole. I was like, "The fuck I gotta go home for? I can swim. I'm fine. He good. He didn't die. I ended up sounding like R. Kelly at the end of 'Your Body's Calling', "What's up. Take his ass over there and let me ride this next wave...DAMN":(

I pouted the whole way home, too:roflmao:

Im an excellent swimmer so I usually hang out near the Do Not Cross ropes. I was at the Water Park in Greensboro in the giant Wave Pool about as far as u can possibly go in the deep end. All of a sudden a white guy started swimming towards me full throttle. Im thinking yo ass bout to get in trouble cuz I got a warning about 10mins ago for being out this far.

This MF'r swam right past me and said "Dont Save Me". Im confused as shit b/c obviously he can swim. And you cant really drown urself. Its like trying to tickle urself.
I kid you not he went about 10 yrds past me and went under. Came up and did it again. Then he started patting himself on the head counting while drowning. I was so fucking confused!!
He was trying to kill himself but it wasnt working. I took a stroke or two in his direction. I was told dont save pple swimming until they get tired. They will pull you under trying to grab at you for safety.

Did I mention this dude could swim!! I was stuck in a fucking twilight zone. Next thing I know the life guards blew whistles and jumped in.

Long story short he was their manager and b/c he saw me out there he wanted to test their reaction time.

I witnessed a MF'r try to professionally commit suicide for play play while looking dead at me. #CraziestShitEver

The whole park was filled with senators and state reps. They have to legally close the ride, but since they claim they didn't know what happened they decided to close the entire park.
