NBA Offseason 2016 - FreeAgency money dried up...Waiters gets $2.6 after OKC pulled $6+ offer...

Report: Lakers re-signing restricted free agent Tarik Black to two-year, $12,846,325 contract
When you sign a center who’s about to turn 30 who just spent the year dealing with injury and/or physical deterioration, you need a capable backup.

The Lakers will put Tarik Black behindTimofey Mozgov.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:

Free-agent center Tarik Black has agreed to a two-year, $12.85 million deal to re-sign with theLos Angeles Lakers, league sources told The Vertical.

Black’s deal will include a trade kicker and a guarantee date in the second season, sources said. For Black, the salary represents the maximum he was able to earn under the Early Bird provisions.

The full Early Bird exception will pay Black $6,191,000 next season and $6,655,325 the following year. The Lakers can leave Black on the cap at his hold ($1,180,431), use the rest of their $15 million or so in space then exceed the cap to re-sign him. If they trust him not to pull any funny business and need the extra space, they could rescind the qualifying offer and reduce his cap hold to $980,431 then exceed the cap to re-sign him.

The 24-year-old Black looked promising as energy player in 2014-15, but he took a step back last season under Byron Scott. This was a major issue of having such a bad coach: Scott made player evaluation more difficult.

Black will finish at the rim, crash the glass and play hard defensively. The Lakers might have to ask too much of him with Mozgov starting, but that’d be true of most backups they could sign.

At least the Lakers aren’t fully committed to paying him next season. That’s a departure after tossing big 2017-18 money at Mozgov,Luol Deng and Jordan Clarkson.

I think he's gonna after them folks were talking down on him a few years ago.

I've been talking about this for months...

the white sports media has decided BEFORE Lebron even won the chip that they were gonna shift the narrative...

that Curry backlash was cooked and READY to go if you look back now...same for Drammond.

They wanted Kerr to catch hell since they didn't recognize Luke Walton's wins.

Its all right there...

I remember Cowherd was STILL on ESPN and he just used to kill Melo and John Wall out the blue

no one said nothing but it was steady and then I saw a HUGE backlash on Melo in NY.

And Durant went from the good ole boy single parent household favorite anti Lebron to

a injury prone push over too passive not a leader choking dog surly unappreciative to the press getting THREATENED on live TV by SAS.

and it went on and on Chris Paul, Dwight (ok he did most of that himself) but REMEMBER how he bashed Lebron when quiet is kept all those players backed him EXCEPT Dwight and KD and look how the media is doing THEM now (karma)

Cause they were KILLING Westbrook he too emotional he doesn't "THINK" he needs a good coach to CONTROL him, a natural talent, it comes so EASY for him...

but it seems its OK if HE leaves OKC but Durant can't for some reason.

And you KNOW these white men are going to have a FIELD day in the coming weeks with all these new contracts for all these young brothers?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't let ONE of them catch a case of ANY sort

or they are FINISHED and DONE.

The only people who have a right to lose it are OKC fans.

....basically. I also think this is a completely different scenario. KD has met with his team, has been fully transparent of his decision to test Free Agency, so OKC will NOT be blindsided. LeBron didn't tell the Cavs anything, and they found out when everybody else did, with the 'Decision'. Anyone who puts this situation in the same context is really reaching and only pulling out elements that support what they want to bitch about, no disrespect intended.

LeBron learned from it, did shit the right way when he went back to Cleveland, he moved on, not sure why other people can't do the same...

The league is that type of league now, where players make the choices that's best for them. D Wades situations proves there is NO MORE LOYALTY in the league from the team or management side, so why should players give a fuck. Instead of being mad at the players, the fans should be mad at team ownership. Their disloyalty has created this type of situation... No way in hell I would shit on KD for leaving, he gave his best to this team and the city, SIGNED a contract extension already to give them a shot to put shit together, so he's given them TWO contracts already... Time to look out for himself if he decides to leave. More power to him...

You know niggas been givin KD a hall pass for some strange reason....

In my opinion, its fairly simple.

Lebron is/was being compared to the Gods from the DOOR. Once you get those level of expectations placed on you, you can't 'cheat' to bolster your legacy. At least thats the case for many.

As great as Kevin Durant is, I never got the impression many people felt he was a potential GOAT or even top 5.

Cowherd and peanut gallery are known idiots... They were talking all year about Bama being done. The dynasty was done.

And when it comes to Melo... Forget about it... When Phil moved Shump and JR... It was Melo's fault... When the fan booed Porzingis in the draft, Melo was the one who led the boos.

From time to time, I'll watch a youtube clip of his dumbass... Just so I can laugh at how stupid he sounds.

Exactly. KD needs to do what's best for him. Fuck what anyone else wants or needs. Why the hell would you guys care if he goes to GS? Y'all
Laugh at him every year and talk about how overrated he is. He's trying to build his legacy up and y'all gonna have beef with him? That's silly.

Y'all keep comparing this to Lebron. KD didn't attempt to team up with his peers to make a dream team. He's a free agent going to a teaM that's winning and he not escaping out EAST to do it either.

understood...

but it was NEVER about that...it was about race and power and MJ sycophants.

cause those burning jerseys and that letter?

I could write a LIST of WHITE athletes who were heralding as the next so and so and NEVER received that type of venom for leaving.

And let us NOT forget a 16 year old kid wasn't the one with the decision making power to get an SI cover and HS games on ESPN.

I GUARANTEE if LeBron had a WHITE agent power broker?

it wouldn't have bee THAT bad...

Clevealanders didn't even go after Modell like that

OK they did

but the two are events are NO WHERE NEAR comparable in scope.

and once KD won that MVP?

all bets are off because the MEDIA decided he was the next great.

THEY called him top 5 ever etc etc... (I'm sure YOU and many of the real NBA fans on the board didn't)

Easy to look up too...

and I'm sure his subsequent injuries and play off disappointment greatly contributed to his sudden lack of affection for the media...

cause it aint so sweet when they aint hugging and kissing you as they boy.

Cant argue with that.

I personally feel that a man has a right to go wherever he wants to.
I mean I get why his fans would be mad. They could've traded KD and got something for him if he leaves. You about to get nothing for him. OKC has a right to be upset if he goes. All these other niggas though they have noneeason.

^^^^

they ALL do.

Cause as much as people rewriting history?

IF social media ESPN talking sh*theads existed back in the day?

regardless of the REALITY of the situations...

Clyde would have gotten KILLED for going to Houston.

Chuck going to Phoenix

Pippen going to the Blazers

Shaq going to the Lakers

and I could go on and on...

and peep game....

95% of these athletes don't even KNOW who Curt Flood IS!

I'm annoyed that this bony, peasy-headed nigga won't just come out and say where he's going. Stop making a fucking spectacle.

It's not a spectacle. He has a big decision to make. In reality free agency doesn't even start until July 7th anyway so anything he decides now isn't even final.

Even LeBron admitted in hindsight he did "the Decision" wrong.

Like I said if you're gonna leave just say that shit.

It wasn't about any of that for me.

I've talked to a lot of people who had similar reasoning to me.

I'm not denying that what you said applies to some ...

...but Lebron had great expectations. Doing what he did just seemed like an easy, less competitive way out of achieving the same results that others did. I'll take that one to my grave. No one said you don't need help, but Lebron went beyond 'help' to 'guarantees'. At least in his mind. I mean, even he said 'not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4 ... etc, etc, etc...." Thats setting the game on easy, bro'. How much respect do you expect to get for that shit?

If you don't see it that way, thats one thing. But a lot of people do. I sure as hell do. Thats why I'm saying now, KD needs to stay where he is.

I m almost done with this shit...my phone fucked up this weekend..so I have been glued to bgol on my laptop and other forums..waiting for the decision like its going to affect my life...i check espn decision coming monday, check again decision coming tomorrow...come on nigga...

I don't recall KG or AI getting backlash when they left their respective teams, but they said it from the door that they wanted out. As a matter of fact Ewing didn't catch any heat that I remember either.

KD most definitely deserve a pass. And if he wins a ring in Golden St.... Fuck it... Good for him. OKC fucked up by letting Harden go anyway.

KG asked for a trade and the Celtics got to at least get something for him. AI did as well. They said they wanted out and gave those teams a chance to trade them.

But I think these dudes were either at the end of their primes or out of their prime altogether.

I have no rpoblem with these guys leaving or even Lebron for that matter.

Lebron, like someone stated above even admitted as much that it was a mistake how he handled it. His brand took a hit for how that decision went. He, Bosh and Wade all conspired long before that they were meeting up yet, he went and gave teams like the Knicks false hope and wasted their team and others.
