Discussion: FARGO on FX @10pm Update: Season 5 w/ John Hamm

Playa - Right on, fam'. Glad you're enjoying the season and getting caught up on the eps. You're in for a treat as the season plays out. Some fantastic scenes just like in season 1.

Watch for the character transformation with Kirsten Dunst.

All the great scenes ahead with Hanzi, Mike Milligan, and more.

Plenty of good usage of the split screens.

So glad they're giving the movie proper shine, and also referencing past Coen brothers films from the 80s - 00s. Look for callbacks to films like Miller's Crossing, No Country for Old Men, Raising Arizona, and more.

Even though the series might not have the biggest ratings and all, they know they've got a gem with the show. So much good buzz online & come award(s) season (Golden Globes). Fans love and appreciate good TV like Breaking Bad, The Wire, Fargo, Mad Men, The Sopranos, and more. Watercooler talk. Cool factor(s), etc. Plus the fact that Noah Hawley and company are NOT rushing the show. Sounds like they'll be filming season 3 in late-2016 and releasing it in early-2017.

Kirsten Dunst took a role that COULD have potentially been the stereotypical crazed blonde housewife and rocked.

I was prepared to hate her...and she ended up being the most sympathetic figure in the whole series

that final car ride in the police car when the officer makes the helicopter speech...

out of REFLEX the audience is SUPPOSED to nod and understand and when her character listens intently looks confused and essentially calls BULLSHIT?

powerful stuff.

Very good season. We checked out the finale yesterday. Enjoyed that sequence with Ed and his wife fleeing. The slower scenes with Lou talking with his wife and father-in-law. Plenty of great characters all year (especially Hanzi), and Mike Milligan's fate was interesting. Reminded us of Vic Mackie's fate in the series finale of The Shield back in the day. Season 3 should be great. They definitely set the bar high with the casts & storylines from seasons 1 and 2. The podcasters really dug the season too. Plenty of good recap shows out there for those on ITunes.

OUTSTANDING OBSERVATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would LOVE if they continue HIS story. He looked lost and confused and like he was being placed in a jail cell. In a sense he was. Mike is an EARNER. Mike is OBVIOUSLY ridiculously smart but I don't think he knows how to generate quarterly accounting reports for management.

yeah she was using a truth to rationalize her poor decisions - but the cop understandably shuts her down cause her choices set off a cascade of murders

yeah the 'I am woman hear me roar' moment kinda got derailed when she realized her husband she blamed for stifling her died to keep her free.

you wont regret it
I watched that episode but I don't remember it that much. I'll watch it tonight and report back whether I have a

moment or not. lol

Thanks, fam'.

Yeah ... I wasn't sure what to make of Dunst's role at first, but loved the way it played out. Her trying to "self-actualize" but never fully grasping how fucked up their whole involvement in all of this was. Her husband Ed simply wanting to live a quiet, quaint life and own the butcher shop & start a family. Meanwhile by the incidents in episodes 1 and 2 ... they're a part of this whole shitstorm involving the Cincinnati crew & local Gerhardt familia. All types of fucked up!

Plenty of great dialogue throughout the season. One of my fave scenes is when Lou goes to them explaining that he's aware Rye Gerhardt was killed via hit & run, and that people will eventually be coming after them. The tension in that scene ... the body language. Better than many movies. That's what's dope about all the good TV programming out there these days ... we're spoiled in a sense in that much of it is better than all the shitty re-ups and remakes the MOVIEMAKERS are pushing on people. Plus in tv format you're given longer to flush out characters & tell stories. 2 hours can be a bit rushed in a movie. Compared with say 7 or 8 - 12+ one-hour episodes.

As for Mike Milligan ... yeah ... I'd watch more of his story too. He was one of the best this sesason. Thanks for the co-sign on the comparison to how Vic Mackie's life and career played out in the series finale of The Shield. Both of them complete badasses in their own right ... and to be stuck in a building in an office job is the EXACT opposite of where they want to be. This fucks up all their plans. Plus ... it leaves the viewers satisfied, in that they are NOT simply killed off hastily like so many other people are in TV and movies. That often feels cheap. To build up a great character & then off them quickly. No thanks. People don't want to see that ... unless it's an all-time classic type scene. Plenty of laughs when Mike and the Kitchen brother arrived at the scene of the Sioux Falls massacre at the motel and seeing all the bloodshed everywhere. They knew the environment was fucked up and then just "Ok then" departed in their ride. They weren't hanging around for any of that bullshit, haha!

That scene with them walking in on the Gerhardt cousin coming back to their home to steal valuables ... that shit was great. Cornering him in the room & finishing him off. Loved that shit.

What other series & docs are hot of late, BGOL fam'?

Aside from Making a Murderer & Narcos ... what else are ya'll currently checking?
I'm so backed up...

I JUST finished Fargo.

I got a few episodes of Jessica Jones left

Narcos haven't touched yet...but only heard GOOD things

A lot people told me Murderer was WAY TOO long...but good.

(I would recommend checking out the Central Park 5 first)

Ash vs Evil Dead is good so far.

Cobain: Montage of Heck is uncomfortable good.

Series wise besides Mr. Robot?

Legends, Graceland both got cancelled and squandered really good concepts.

Good shit, Playa.

Need to check out Narcos in full. We've only caught the first 2 eps.

Gonna get around to Murderer eventually, and The Seven Five. Have seen bits and pieces of Mr. Robot. Might get around to Jessica Jones.

Looking forward to mid-February ... The Walking Dead returns, 2nd season of Better Call Saul, and the next season of Survivor (last season was solid).

Mr Robot, Second season of The Leftovers. These along with Fargo make my top 3 for this year.

I heard good things about Season 2 of The Knick

Right on, BlkStrength ^

I need to get around to The Leftovers. Plenty of the podcasters who recap various series say it's a dope series. I was worried about Fargo going into the 2nd season as the bar was set high in season 1. Glad they delivered in season 2 ... gives us all hope that they'll deliver yet again with the 3rd! The actors/cast better be on their fucking game 'cuz they're following Billy Bob, Ted Danson, Bokeem Woodbine, Hanzi Muthafuckin' Dent, The Kitchen Brothers, the Gerhardt inbreds, Kirsten Dunst, and the dude from Friday Night Lights & Breaking Bad fame.

Good buzz around The Knick as well. A good number of BGOL fam' have mentioned it, and I added some T&A screencaps in a thread or two ...

On Netflix...

second season of Daredevil, new OINB and Voltron
Colony is a GREAT new science fiction series
If you haven't caught up with Orphan Black do so its over next year

Of course The Americans, best series on TV now, period.

I thought the new X-files was good.

That's wassup. A coworker is a big fan of Person of Interest. As for Fargo, season 3 should be fun next year as they set the bar so high the first 2 seasons. Especially so since the movie debuted 20 years ago and was so well-received by many. One of those small-town films that people reference often with the Coen brothers' filmography. They really cast the Fargo series well. Good mix of notable acting talent & less familiar people who did damn well in their supporting roles. You know a show is good when it has people talking.

Carrie Coon-heads? Carrie-aniacs? Well, fans of Vulture's best TV actress of the year, whatever they're called, should rejoice, as Coon will be the female lead in Fargo's third season. Coon will play Gloria Burgle, a chief of police and "a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics," which is either an elaborate metaphor, or a hint thatFargo's going to tackle the dangers of brunch. Either way, Gloria is "struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them." Ewan McGregor is also starring as twin brothers. Production is slated to begin later this year, giving Coon plenty of time to return from Australia, whereshe's shooting The Leftovers.

Looking forward to the eventual 3rd season. They set the bar really high by TV standards these first 2 seasons.

Very good storylines, plots, and casting.
