My argument isn't that Duncan isn't the best power forward ever, my argument is that Ducan isn't top five.. Now he does have a lot of aculades to argue in his favor, but in my opinion he lack in personal accomplishments to be mentioned in the top five of all time..
To repeat, to be in the top five, my criterior is having great team success, great success in the finals. MVP's both in finals and regular season and great statistical accomplishments..
Going by the numbers Duncan fails short in individual accomplishments, things such as MVP's top scorer, top re-bounder and his over all number are not that great, all that other shit he has on lock giving him the title of top power forward ever... But at his best year of 25.5 pts, 12.7 rebounds and 3.7 assist is almost an average season for LeBron, yes the rebounds are like 4 points more but the assist are 4 points less and points 2 less.
Note this was Tim best season..
Plus his numbers in the finals are just as lack luster.. At the end of the day Tim is a great player who played on a great system that allowed him to win more than most players... Put him on another team then you would see the chinks in his armor...
Lebron will have the overall stats, because he played way more in the league, than damn near everyone. Not a dig, or negative just a truth.
Duncan was not a high flyer or a small forward, he was a primarily post player. Lebron can pass better, leap better no doubt.
But could he shoot better No
Could he defend better No
Could he rebound better No
No one player has it all, especially across eras, but no way Lebron is the more complete player than Duncan.
Now back to Bird. He is somewhere in the top 10, especially when you start talking Julius Erving in my book (who I would rank higher than Bird). You all are gauging athleticism vs basketball ability. Bird did everything Lebron is doing ( IQ, passing, team guy, taking over in big games (lebron present, certainly not past), in maybe a more competitive league (WITH damaging fouls and hand checking), except Bird was a far more consistent shooter, and rebounded the ball better and ALWAYS played big in the playoffs.
Look at the post comparing the two. Look closely at total BLOCKS. Lebron is the far better athlete, played far more games...look how close that major defensive stat is. Bird was NASTY on D and his ass could better move on the court he was so slow. That Block on Iggy was just disgusting though....wow.
These last two years Lebron has been a MONSTER, but some of the L's in the finals were not just because of bad teams and coaching, but also do to his inability at the time to not really be able to shoot the damn ball, poor clutch play (especially against dallas), some quitting (folks already forgot??) and he STILL has no post game.
getting Cleveland a Ring....shit that is fucking major. But is that any more major than Duncan winning five rings across multiple decades, with a franchise with so many moveable parts? Always winning 50+ games every year, and he beat a Lebron led team in the Finals, that had better talent.
