Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

2 of the most iconic DC comics characters finally meet up on the big screen in
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to duke it out.....but is it any good? Yes and
no
Director Zack Snyder gets some things right linking his Man of Steel film to
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a terrific opening sequence showing Bruce Wayne's/Batman's point of view of when Superman
battled Zod over Metropolis ,which along with a Kryptonian terraformer caused massive death and destruction
Also there is a great summary of what drives Batman

Ben Affleck is as great as i thought he would be as Batman, hitting all the right notes, along with his great chemistry with
Jeremy Irons as Alfred also quite good in his portrayal of the loyal father like figure in Wayne's life
Henry Cavill is still serviceable as Superman but i wanted to see more range from him.I truly hope i see more of it
in the DC films to come and a further exploration of the Batman and Superman relationship.
Gal Gadot is fine as Wonder Woman and i admit right here i went into super geek mode when she does a a
certain thing during an action sequence
Amy Adams does well as Lois Lane ,the investigative reporter taking risks worldwide, and also the loving girlfriend of the man
of steel.
There are some really glorious and exciting moments in the film even if you're the slightest Comic Book fan
I had no worries about the action sequences because Snyder can direct the hell out of an action sequence
The fight between the two titans has some great moments

The bad stuff:What's odd i was kind of digging Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor when he first appears he's calculating
and you know he's up to no good. Then he starts doing this odd sniveling thing with a slight moan ,that soon goes to manic.
I did like the beyond sinister things he did that kind of shocked me,but his portrayal would have worked as a different DC villain
but as Luthor......NO !!

There are plot holes and a couple of things are left unexplained

The flow of the movie is definitely off at times.I can best describe it like this you're at an amusement park and you know what rides you want to
get on but you keep getting distracted by other little amusements in the park, and you only get to a few rides that you wanted to get on

The final battle which was partially ruined by a trailer months ago has it's moments but of course would have worked better
if i didnt know it was coming

So is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice worth seeing in the theatre:YES
Do i think it's a good gateway to the upcoming films:YES

Not a perfect film, and it's the first in awhile that i have had to struggle with grading in awhile

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

I completely disagree with anything good in this review - except Batman, and even he got shitted on
there should never have been a movie where Batman shoots someone with an m60 machine gun! FROM LESS THAN 15 FEET AWAY!
latest

7.5 is too generous

Triple 9

I know the critics did not like this movie at all
Yes, the holes are huge and gaping
and some of their behaviour did not make sense
The actors were too good for this movie, like you didnt need people
with the talent of ejiofor and winslet...any old actor would have been good
but on a purely superficial level, this movie was enjoyable as fuck
7/10
worth getting on DVD

Watch if you liked
end of watch and brooklyns finest

this was decent
i just didnt believe Oscar as the homicidal maniac
it fell just short

Hardcore Henry
th

A first-person action film from the eyes of Henry, who's resurrected from death with no memory. He must discover his identity and save his wife from a warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers.

A good(IMO) film, even if it did remind me a little of the Crank movies..fans of FPS games will love this(it even has chapter titles and end-of mission scenes like you would see in any game of that ilk) just be sure not to eat anything while watching

Score: 7 out of 10

THE BOSS

Melissa McCarthy's latest comedy THE BOSS hits some of the best spots of the funny bone at times
and completely misses several times

In THE BOSS Melissa McCarthy is Michelle Darnell,a financial expert and mega popular inspirational speaker
,but is suddenly brought down by the feds for insider trading. With all her funds and property taken
she moves in with her former assistant Claire ( Kristen Bell ) and her daughter Rachel.
Attending a girl scout cookie meeting with Rachel Michelle comes up with an idea to sell Claire's brownies
in order to get back on top financially

When McCarthy riffs and ad libs on anything from bra's to to sex,and comes up against anyone who attempts to oppose
her the film is hilarious but when the film slows down to try to establish some heart and sad to say because i think he's great
Peter Dinklage's character Renault appears 90% of his scenes go absolutely nowhere.

Laced with some good sight gags and one liners THE BOSS churns along to a drawn out ending that if i still wore a watch
i definitely would have checked it a few times.

THE JUNGLE BOOK

One of my favorite stories from my child hood The Jungle Book springs to life on th big screen with flawless CGI and
3D SFX.Coupled with terrific voice work from :Lupita Nyong’o,Giancarlo Esposito, Idris Elba, Ben Kingsley,Bill Murray,Scarlett Johansson and Christopher Walken
and high praise to Neel Sethi as Mowgli who basically worked with green screen for the entire filming
There are a few stiff moments but nothing that keeps me from giving the film a high rating.

Barbershop: The Next Cut

I didnt realize how much i missed Calvin's BarberShop until about 10 minutes into Barbershop: The Next Cut,when the colorful debates about men, women, crime
politics, police brutality and hair weaves began. Some are laced with humor and some rightfully so are not.
This is all sharply coupled with a strong theme about gang violence.
Ice Cube turns in the strongest performance,as his frustrations as a father and businessman collide with the violence in the neighborhood.Should he
send his son to a safer school? Should he move the shop to a quieter neighborhood?
Also turning in good performances are
Cedric the Entertainer as elderly barber Eddie,Regina Hall as beauty-shop proprietor Angie,Common as fellow barber and father Rashad who is married to
Eve's character Terri, and Nicki Minaj as the shop's temptress & hairstylist Draya.
BTNC feels a little preachy at times ,some of the would be comedic moments dont work and some moments are beyond predictable but in the end the film has a very good balance of comedy and drama and it
definitely felt good to be back in the chair again

Demolition

Jake Gyllenhaal gives a great performance as Davis, an investment banker who handles grief and guilt in a few interesting ways.

He cant bring himself to have any emotional break downs about his wife's passing. So he start's taking things apart .From his refrigerator to his computer at work. His Father-in -Law (and boss), Phil ( terrific as usual Chris Cooper) chafes at Davis's actions, and uncaring manner.
Along the way Davis befriends a a vending machine customer service representative, Karen (Naomi Watts), and her teenage son, Chris (Judah Lewis)
who come with their own emotional problems
There are a couple of scenes in the film that didnt work for me ,so much so it completely took me out of the film
but the message of being true to ourselves and our feelings, and what we want in life comes through in the end

CRIMINAL

Kevin Costner is the best thing about this mind swapping ,clunky action flick.Costner seems to be having a terrific time as Jericho Stewart a criminal so bad ass he's in a cage, but is still chained up and is fed through a hole above him.Even though it's never stated why he's in jail but hey look where he is he's a friggin bad ass
A dead CIA operative's memories, secrets, and skills are implanted into his head and some fun begins
The rest of the cast sleepwalks through the film. Some are around for 10 minutes others for 20
Im still surprised to see certain actors in so so films like this knowing they turned down films which could have given them acclaim and more bankability
Rent this on a slow Saturday night

HARDCORE HENRY

Anyone into first person video games will love this action romp. The action coupled with ultra violence is relentless in this story about....hmmm well there really isnt a story
but it's really just a video game,as Henry plows through anyone who comes up against him all the way to the big bad boss ,with help along the way from Sharlto Copley,in
various roles.Praise to the creators for trying something different and sure HH is fun for awhile but when the last 15 minutes are barreling through i was already looking for the exit

Has been getting a lot of praise and I have to say its well deserved.
I dont think its as kid friendly as the original was.
Shere Khan is legit scary and dangerous
and King Louie was just as creepy and threatening as you can imagine.

I saw it 3d and dont think its a must see in 3d
but its def a must see and own on dvd
8/10

MILES AHEAD

Don Cheadle's passion project finally make it to the big screen and Cheadle completely immerses himself in the role
and is quite outstanding. This is a pull no punches warts and all semi-biopic and i definitely welcomed that.
The film captures Davis's love for music and his failures.
Focusing on certain moments in his life which include his marriage to Frances Taylor (incredibly portrayed by
a dazzling Emayatzy Corinealdi) and all of it's betrayals.
There are great reflective moments some that have Davis reaching out to a long gone love he should have treated better
The narrative is definitely jumpy at times and there are some moments i felt were unnecessary but the tone and beat of the film cant be denied
as the passion of two men are displayed the Director Cheadle and Davis himself
MH ends on a beautiful musical note and i think thats the way Davis would have wanted it

The Huntsman: Winter's War

The Huntsman: Winter's War is a prequel and sequel to 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman .I think the fact that it attempts to be
both is one of the film's biggest faults.Heavily promoted by a deep voiced voice over in the ads that kept stating THE STORY BEFORE SNOW WHITE!!!!
Well it turns out we get the after too.
The resurrection and missing characters are easily and lazily explained away in a few words.
What The Huntsman: Winter's War has going for it is the chemistry between Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain, absolutely stunning visuals and SFX
and some fun dwarves with salty tongues
Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron are basically live action versions of the characters from Frozen
Thankfully the film is far more humorous than i expected it to be ,but it's still only worth a look on a slow Saturday while flipping through the channels

BITE

Bite-Banner.jpg

While on her bachelorette party getaway, Casey, the bride to be, gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect. After returning home with cold feet, Casey tries to call off her wedding but before she’s able to, she starts exhibiting insect like traits. Between her physical transformation and her wedding anxiety, Casey succumbs to her new instincts and begins creating a hive that not only houses her translucent eggs, but feeds on the flesh of others. As her transformation becomes complete, Casey discovers that everything can change with a single bite.

All i have to say is do NOT watch this movie on a full stomach

Surprisingly good and LoL funny. I didn't want to like it but after seeing her on Fallon and Kimmel, I watched it and I have to admit Melissa and her crew brought it.
Highly recommended.

GREEN ROOM

Green Room is in the league of thrillers like Eden Lake .Now it didn't leave me with the punch to the gut feeling as
the aforementioned did but this story about a punk rock band being held captive by white supremacists after
witnessing a murder is relentlessly disturbing ,unnerving, violent and pushed me to the edge of my seat over and over again.
Patrick Stewart as the cold and calculating leader of the supremacists is quite good, but it's Anton Yelchin that stands out as the resourceful
bassist of the band. Also praise goes to
Imogen Poots for her straightforward, and intense performance
GR has some weaknesses around the edges but it's one of the best thrillers i've seen in awhile

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

ELVIS & NIXON

The meeting between Elvis & Nixon happened some time before Nixon started taping all of his conversations so this
made up version of what may have happened is still quite good, due to some good writing from

Joey Sagal,Hanala Sagal and Cary Elwes The actors who portray Rock 'n' Roll Hillbillyand Tricky Dick sure may not look
like them but Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey capture their personalities and mannerisms to a T
There's some unecessary fluff around the edges but Elvis & Nixon is still very entertaining

Scale of 1-10 an 7½

KEANU

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele bring their brand of comedy to the big screen in KEANU.Peele is Rell Williams
completely out of it after a break up,until a beyond cute kitten comes scratching at his door. It's pet love at first sight.
When his home is robbed and Keanu goes missing he teams up with his cousin Clarence( Key)
to get him back
There are some extremely funny moments in the film, especially in one scene in which Rell completely loses it
i couldnt stop laughing.
Unfortunately the film has far to many repetitive moments and suffers from what i was afraid of what it would suffer from
it starts to feel like a skit that has been pushed to the 100 minute mark.
Im still looking forward to what the comedy duo come up with next though

TURBO KID

Turbo_Kid_poster.jpg

The film follows the adventures of The Kid, a teenage boy turned superhero in the "Wastelands", an alternate 1997 Earth where water is scarce. He teams up with a mysterious girl named Apple and an arm-wrestling cowboy named Frederic to stop the tyrannical leader Zeus.

This was a nice throwback to those 70s/80s knockoffs of movies like Escape From New York,Mad Max,etc..whod have thought we'd see Eli from Degrassi battling Sam Fisher in the future

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

THE FINAL GIRLS

The_Final_Girls_poster.jpg

A young woman grieving the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s, finds herself pulled into the world of her mom's most famous movie. Reunited, the women must fight off the film's maniacal killer.

Like the poster said, this is a"love letter to 80s slasher films". It was sort of a mashup of the Friday The 13th movies and Last Action Hero..soundtrack was good too

Scale of 1-10 a 7

Captain America: Civil War

One of the strongest themes in Comic Book films as of late is that there are consequences for the actions of the hero, sometimes
tragedy is connected to a heroic moment, and that there are casualties whena a hero and villain rumble in a highly populated
city or country.
So what if the government wanted to reign in the hero's because of the aforementioned?

So much praise should be heaped upon the Russo brothers and writers Christopher Marku and Stephen McFeely
Not only providing and developing a sequel to Captain America: Winter Soldier but also an Avengers movie, with a strong story about
friendship,responsibility,loss and revenge

The action sequences are choreographed to a T.There is so much on screen to not only satisfy the fanboys, but also the most casual Marvel fan
If thats's not enough, the film has one of the best big screen introductions to Spider-Man well played by Tom Holland
They also get everything right about Black Planther his strengths as a leader and hero are brought out in the script and strong performance from

Chadwick_Boseman.Im really looking forward to his solo film and the characters that will inhabit it.
All of the actors portraying the characters do a fine job

Some scenes felt a little drawn out and repetitive but the fact that the film has so much on it's plate to take in and that it actually goes down so well and
plays so strongly is a movie miracle

Scale of 1-10 a 9

A Bigger Splash

A couples get away from it all restful vacation is completely turned around by the woman's former manager/lover and his seductive daughter.
Ralph Fiennes portrays the former manager Harry who doesnt have an off switch .He's imposing, crass, loud ,and intruding.
His former flame and popular singer Marianne (Tilda Swiinton) semi welcomes his intrusion, while her new lover
Paul (Matthias Schoenaerts) chafes at Harry's personality and Harry's daughter Penelope (Dakota Johnson) frolics around with a
casual smile and seductive glance.
Of course all types of alterior motives arise.
This is a good tale of broken friendships and relationships.Seduction by something new and something familiar.I loved how the film plays with the complications of communication

All well played by each actor. A Bigger splash is at it's best when it focuses on the four main characters,it's a bit drawn out and meanders here and there
but it's still one of the best films of the Summer movie season so far.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

We Are Your Friends

Every actor in this film collects an easy paycheck
This is one of the most lightweight films i have ever watched .I didnt connect to any of the characters or even their plights but
the music and visuals were great and i loved staring at the beyond beautiful
Emily Ratajkowski.
Just a cool way to kill about 90 minutes
Scale of 1-10 a 6½

The Nice Guys

P.I. Holland March (Ryan Gosling) & enforcer Jackson Healy’s (Russell Crowe)have been thrown some hard curve balls in life so
much so they are beyond cynical about life and the future. This fact doesnt stop them from helping people ...that is for the right price.
The two meet and butt heads in ways i wont get into to not spoil the story, but they find themselves searching for a young girl named
Amelia (Margaret Qualley)who is connected to the death of a porn star, corruption in the auto industry and the justice department.

Gosling & Crowe are solid gold together. The banter between the two and the bumbling is classic and written so well by director Shane Black
& Anthony Bagarozzi. One of the best duos since the characters in Rush Hour & The Last Boy Scout
The film is filled with great characters and villains and completely captures the look and feel of the late 1970's
Equally outstanding is
15-year old newcomer Angourie Rice as March's sometimes too helpful daughter Holly.

The plot becomes a bit convoluted as the film nears it's last act but it only merely subtracts from all the greatness in the film

Scale of 1-10 a 9

GO SEE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

If you liked the first Neighbors you will definitely find a few things to like in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Some of the movie felt repetitive but this
time around the audiences are introduced to three girls - Shelby (Chloe Grace Moretz), Beth (Kiersey Clemons), and Nora (Beanie Feldstein) who decide to start their own campus sorority
after coming across the sexist male frats and stiff and stuffy sororities, unfortunately for Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) Radner the girls party palace is right next door
to their home that they are now trying to sell, and on top of that their former neighbor nemesis Teddy Sanders (Zac Efron) has become a mentor for the girls.

Rogen,Byrne and Efron are still all great together and there are some hilarious, gross out ,laugh out loud moments and Moretz does a fine job but as the film heads toward message mode about sexism, women dont objectify yourselves and ladies dont allow yourselves to be objectified and sure i can see what the writers were trying to accomplish but
things slow down to a crawl and the steam engine that once was completely shuts off
I found myself saying didnt they just talk about that about that 10 minutes ago?????

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The Angry Birds Movie

I guess they squeezed as much as they could out of an APP to make a movie about it. TABM starts off very funny but at the 30 minute mark a certain character is introduced
with one funny bit attached, and for the next 30 minutes the toon becomes painfully dull.Fortunately it picks up in the last 30 minutes and some interesting turns coupled with some laughs
are provided

About 80% of the kids in the audience were loving it as a whole but i suggest waiting for the DVD and turning it over to the kids on a slow rainy Saturday

Scale of 1-10 a 6

X-Men: Apocalypse

Director Bryan Singer attempts to bring one of the X-Men's greatest foe's to the big screen in X-Men: Apocalypse
I found the character Apocalypse to be very intimidating at the beginning of the film ,but as the movie goes on
i was far less impressed with him and i felt he completely loses all presence by the end of the film, and his look and stature
in the film really comes off as one of the villains from Masked Rider or Power Rangers. It's not even a problem with the casting.

Oscar Isaac is a great actor but maybe the character would have worked better if he had further mutated into the look of
the character from the comic books as he performed certain acts in the movie.

On the plus side Michael Fassbender's portrayal of Magneto and his story gives the movie some great dramatic weight
Also quite good are James McAvoy as Professor X providing a serious and humorous performance and the introduction of
younger versions of Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan) and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) Angel (Ben Hardy), Storm (Alexandre Shipp)
and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee)
Theres a good amount of crowd pleasing including another super speed scene with Quicksilver (Evan Peters)

Jennifer Lawrence comes off very distant this time around as Mystique so much so i really wonder if she will return for anymore
sequels.Aside from a terrific opening sequence a some portions of the action sequences are a bit stiff

In the end the movie is good but definitely not on the same level as the first 2 X-Men films in this series.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Irrational Man

Definitely not Woody Allen's best but i did love what this movie evolves into and i found myself smiling throughout much of
this dark comedy .Im so glad i didnt know much about the movie before watching it

Scale of 1-10 an 8

The Boy

I give The Boy points for originality and a couple of good scary scenes and the fact that one of the characters in the film actually
reminded me of a popular character from a popular radio show .But the film turns into a basic horror thriller
Fun and worth renting though
Scale of 1-10 a 7

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

If you liked 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie you wont have a problem watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
There are things to like about the flick. The inner tension among the four turtle brothers ,i found myself laughing often at the antics of
the Turtle's enemy Shredder's henchman Bebop and Rocksteady.Megan Fox is fun to look at and the CGI and 3D SFX are nearly
flawless.
The rest is just plain silly. The side story with Vernon Fenwick was painfully unfunny.Im wondering if they asked Stephen Amell as
Casey Jones to raise his voice as high as he could?
One character is built up throughout the film and dismissed right before the climax.
Tyler Perry and Laura Linney collect easy paychecks though Perry looks like he's having much more fun.

Scale of 1-10 a 6½

The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave is probably the most boring of all of the big screen young adult novel adaptations. This is a movie that never really gets going
Chloë Grace Moretz is cute as the films heroine but theres no real excitement to the character. This is supposed to be an action sci fi thriller but
everything felt so watered down
There is a glimmer of hope when the film goes to a group of kids who are recruited to be trained to fight off "the others" especially when a goth
chic joins them, but even that loses steam

Liev Schreiber shows up and smirks gives a speech and gets an easy paycheck and i almost didnt recognize Maria Bello....YIKES!!!!!!!!
Dont event rent this one .Wait for it to show up at the 99 cents store

The Conjouring 2

conjuringpostersmall.jpg

Did a masterful job in building up tension
but fell flat when it came to the actual scares and frights

6/10

worth bootlegging. would watch it again if it came in tv but not worth the price of admission and snacks

the first one and insidious were better

WARCRAFT

Never played the Warcraft games, just know of Warcraft through ads and from what i've seen at Comic Cons.
So everything on the big screen was fresh to me.Director Duncan Jones crams as much story and characters as
he can into the films run time.Fortunately most of it really worked for me .I was never bored, with the story of the warring Orcs and
humans. The characters are engaging for the most part, the action sequences are sharply put together. The SFX were nearly flawless
Paula Patton manages to still look stunning in half Orc mode, plus i believe she gives one of her best performances.

Some of the actor's were a bit stiff and the delivery of some of the lines was pretty bad
The editing was blatantly obvious in some parts of the movie.
Other than that i enjoyed being immersed in this World Of Warcraft and i also loved the cliffhanger.
Im looking forward to the sequel

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

NOW YOU SEE ME 2

There's not much to see in NOW YOU SEE ME 2 Only part of the story was interesting to me,and i did like some of the SFX
and tricks. For some reason the writers decided to add a couple of obnoxious characters, delivering painfully unfunny lines.
So many sections of the story i could care less about
Hopefully Now You See me 3 will magically vanish from everyones futures.
