The issue i have is that apparently being black "blackness" basically involves diction and class level. The worst the diction and lower the class level the more "authentic" the blackness is.
thats how it seems to be defined.
It's because their comedy isn't for us, it's for white people.
whats comedy for black people? It's because their comedy isn't for us, it's for white people.
whats comedy for black people?
but dave chappelle and the wayans and chris rock did the same thing...would you say that for them too? There's two ways one could've taken my statement, you took it the exact wrong way.
It's not about comedy for "Black people", much of their comedy is a display of the Black experience\Black side of things designed to make other races laugh.
Aries gave a good example of the voices that they sometimes use in their sketches. The Obama sketch is a good example, slightly funny but they're using exaggerated "Black guy" voices and speaking patterns.
If you don't understand that, go enjoy their movie.

and this goes back to the definition of whats blackness.Like Aries told you, "They can go back to the hood and hang with niggas and not be out of place".![]()
and this goes back to the definition of whats blackness.
I hate the term "Real Niggas"

i got what he was saying but you could make the same case with an italian comedian who imitates the goombahs in brooklyn or an irish comedian doing a boston southie kid or a hillbilly/redneck in the south.I understand where you're coming from but I do my think that's not the perspective that I'm speaking of. Aries touched on it a bit but it has more to do with the type of comedy that they're using.
It's about "Blackness" but not the way that you're thinking. When they perform in what they perceive as their "Black voices", they're loud and boisterous with the "Yo Yo Yo's". When in reality if someone came to us talking like that we'd ask them "Why are you talking like that".
Aries hit it right on the head. They're doing blackface comedy from the perspective of white people but they happen to be Black, if that makes sense.

yeah theyre grossly exaggerated but thats the point.

I'm Black so I can only speak from my perspective, I can't speak on how they feel.
Most Black comedians speak on their experience because they're Black, they're not adding the "Because I'm Black that this is the way Black people do it" context.
I have nothing against Key & Peele and wish them much success, I just understand what Aries was saying .
For me, Aries hit it on the head (6:00) how I see these two comedians. That's coming from someone who worked with them on a TV show (MadTV)

i like his interview on vlad. not cooning just straight spittin real shit.I see Spears hatin ass has softened his bullshit stance on Chapelle.. and started to walk it back and clean it up.. When Chapelle was at the top of his shit Aries used to question his "blackness"... Not knowing the nigga grew up "blacker" than him.
Damn bro!! you hit it dead on from 500 miles away!!!It's because their comedy isn't for us, it's for white people.
With a fucking passion. Poor people in the country are a trip.I hate the term "Real Niggas"

Secondly I grew up with a lot of biracial kids. They go two ways in my experience:
a)trying too hard to be black and get caught up in the system
b)trying too hard to be biracial and lose black identity.
Mostly they're lost and depending on what identity they choose; they'll go overboard for approval from its members.... Key and Peele work real hard for the approval of CACs and you can feel it.
