GQ pressed Carter to disclose the value of the deal, but Carter never specified an exact dollar amount. However when the interviewer asked whether Kanye West’s comment that the deal was worth $1 billion was accurate, Carter just smiled and pointed upward.

“It’s a fantastic deal,” Carter told GQ. “Nike feels great about the deal. That’s the most important thing. As great as I feel, as great as LeBron feels—Nike feels fantastic about it. It’s the largest deal in the history of the company. Their hope is he makes even more. And our hope is that, too, obviously.”

James signed the lifetime contact with Nike in December. The deal was reported as the largest single athlete guarantee in the sports apparel company’s history and was negotiated by Paul Wachter, who helped sell Beats by Dre to Apple for $3 billion.

James has been a Nike athlete since the global sportswear giant offered him a seven-year contract worth approximately $90 million with incentives before the 2003 NBA draft lottery.

Some cultures value news like this. They believe that they're part of the deAl, and they're getting piece of the check. They feel so good and they go out and buy a pair of sneakers.

Some cultures are weird.

Good for Lebron. Now he can just go bald and stop looking like an inside out tube sock. :roflmao::roflmao2::lol: #tacomeatforehead

Keep this about Lebron, no need to mention MJ. Let Lebron shine on his own.

Ps...It's reported that Jordan made a 100 million from Nike last year. That's 1 billion after 10 years, not a "Lifetime". Just saying :dunno:

MJ at Lebrons age didn't get a life time billion dollar deal Bruh

One 2016 dollar was worth 63 cents back in 1995... Will be worth a lot less in the next 20 years or so in comparison. Just saying...

I don't know the details of LeBron's deal but we know Jordan's deal is based on a commission paid from percentage of sales.

At the rate of L's that Jordan is taking this year, his popularity has to be plummeting which will negatively affect how he shoe is selling.

Is the majority of LeBron's deal commission based percentage of sales like Jordan or is it a yearly annuity payment? If the latter then he won, clearly.

The fact that after being out of the league damn near 20 years, and being in his 50s he is STILL the measuring stick all other players are measured against proves he's still the GOAT! Nobody is looking of Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Barkley, none of them Niggas... but EVERY TIME someone accomplishes a little something... Air's name is the first one that comes up out of the mouths of haters...

Dude is two decades removed from the league, and his sneakers still outsell damn near every active player...

LeBron or none of the current stars will ever surpass the cultural impact Air mad... Even with the benefit of social media today so... If you consider this an 'L' for Jordan... I guess you have to do what you need to make you feel better...

Inkosi!

Bron's deal was brokered by a black man, MJ's deals are brokered by jews.

Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Barkley aint in the business of selling shoes and have business affairs outside of basketball they excel at. MJ does not, so he has to hang onto his second childhood forever. He's not great or even good at anything except shoe sales and Phil Knight deserves the bulk of the credit for that. No one even looks up to or even wants to play for him as an owner which is ALL him. MJ will be 70 years old still releasing retros bragging bout the 90's cuz his present day persona sucks.

and nike is owned by non blacks so the all the pro black juss went out the window

True, but some people need white daddy to tell them where to sign and what to do and how to handle their affairs, others do business with their people. Maybe if they had at age 31 they'd had a billion back then instead of in their 50's after they done made white daddy prolly 20 billion.

Its not just his business acumen. His career, etc. everything. Doesn't matter if he's re-releasing old sneakers, people are still buying them, and buying them at a rate the continues to this day, two decades from his last game damn near, to buy them and a rate that is embarrassing to the current crop of players

If a guy in his 50s, is still out selling the current stars, what does that say about them and their fans. Also, Jordan did NOT have the benefit of all this social media to build his brand name, but yet, no one has been able to touch his worldwide cultural impact...

Funny thing is, my point still stands... whenever anyone accomplishes anything, the first name to come out of hating ass Niggas mouths is Jordan this Jordan that...

Lets home any of the current batch of stars are still this relevant into their 50s... because embarrassing enough, they are still looking up to Jordan NOW... LeBron and all the others are STILL looking up to Air... and they will always look up to him. After 14 years in the league, your sneakers are bringing 1/3 the revenue of a 50 plus year old former player?!?!? Pathetic...

Who has a billion at 31?

None of his new shoes outsell present day players. The shoes he's put out the last 15 years dont do shit. If his brand was strong that wouldnt be the case. His niche is "retro" sneaker sales but aside from that you cant tell me 1 business venture he's done that's excelled. Not one. And his career accolades aint even the greatest, he's just the best marketed bball player of all time. Next you gon tell me Mike Tyson the greatest heavyweight cuz he still gets dough for movies and is the most recognizable.

If Mike was as legendary as you claim he would've got a deal like this while he was playing, but he didnt, he was getting peanuts cuz thats what white daddy told him he was gon get. Just like how Jerry Krause aint pay him shit the majority of his career. :smh:

i kno mike gave a job to a black dude i kno giving him 250,000 a yr juss to give his sneakers to celebs for free so that they can post it on social media..this was over a decade ago and he stay getting a raise.. mike got a few black dudes that he pay very nicely.. so mike ain't as much of a tom as some people believe

They would not be giving him a billion dollars. That deal is all incentive based, meaning if he hit his sales objectives over let say 20 or 30 years he would get back over a billlion

Different time and different economy bruh.. that's whats amazing about him, his NAME has stood the test of time. Also, its even more amazing that retros outsell all of the new bullshit thats coming out...

People see these players, see them playing in their current shoes, and STILL prefer to where the Jordan brand 3-1?!?!?! That is longevity, and as I said before, the fact that, the minute someone does something today, Jordans name comes up further validates his standing as the GOAT!

Nobody was making huge bread during his day, and frankly, regardless of what he made from salary, he is still kicking the young Niggas asses, bringing in 100 mill a year to just sit on his ass and collect dough...

Not only that but Fam is reaching as is his custom. Think about it... Air can release a shoe for the 10th time and it outsells LeBrons newest shoe 3-1, yet Air is taking Ls! LeBron ain't seeing a billion dollars in a long as time if ever, PLUS, niggas ain't looking for his ugly ass sneakers now, Da Fuck makes Dude thing they are going to be buying them shits 20 years from now!?

Jordan is the fucking measuring stick for ALL Niggas accomplishments on and off the court, after all these years out of the league... Dude is chilling smoking cigars collecting 100 mill a year while these fools are still chasing his shadow!

Jay didn't even agree to it and niggaz believe it. If he got a billie than it's a lifetime deal and a good one but if he fuck up bad outside of bball Nike has an out.
