Maino on How Desiigner Gets Away with Sounding Like Future

which is why there is no unique style... everybody dressing and sounding like everyone else.
annnnnnnnnnnnnnddddd when new yorkers migrated out to atlanta...

and I mean a fuckin MASS MIGRATION out there in the 90s, everybody was blaming new yorkers for their crime rate going up...

but now that ALL of a sudden Atlanta is on the map... Nobody is saying NOTHING about the mass migration that set the precedence for that.....

I know dudes that moved out to atlanta in the 90s and they say they see their whole ny hood out there, especially brothers from brooklyn and queens.

and they say, they could NEVER come back to new york... they cant believe how they tolerated the cold, and the crowds...

their whole loyalty is with the ATL....
now...

Do u know how many ppl from NJ/NYC lives in NC, Florida, n ATL now?

It's also like that in PA cause ppl ducking the law running to Scanton n Harrisburg

2 yrs ago when I was down NC visiting half the club was from Nwk n JC n it was a small town. Some nikkaz said they was on the run down there cause PA got too hot while hiding out there. I'm like it didn't get HOT yall mfers made it hot lol

When I was visiting my ex in Raleigh her complex was packed with ppl from NJ

While down Orlando everybody I ran into told me they was from Long Island I'm like damn did a boat pick yall up n drop yall off down here? They said it's too expensive in LI so it's affordable n the weathers great

My dude had 3 PJs locked down in VA this dummie had a chance to run but foolishly thought ppl wouldn't rat on him lol they offered him 20 yrs flat

As far as ny goes.
Theyre stuck
Half of it is ny fault tho cause you don't really give the young dudes a chance to create a ny sound

You say if it ain't that boom bap we grew up on it ain't official so they say well fuck that and go with what's hot cause it's either that or sound old.

Me and my wife were watching American Idol a couple of years ago. They were in Connecticut or some shit doing auditions. There was this black kid from Brooklyn that stepped to the mike. JLo was like 'Where Brooklyn at! Where Brooklyn at!'

Dude looked totally confused. I think he said something like, 'We over here! We over here!'

JLo looked hurt. I was fuckin stunned. These NYC kids don't know their own history.

And this is how you end up with Designer a/k/a The Day After Tomorrow.

NYC kids? Rap is the only genre that it's cool for all of these young niggas to not know shit about the history. Just a few days ago niggas on twitter almost lost it when XXL called NaS "Esco" it was very telling.

damn virginia aint no place to fuck around if you wasnt there in the mid eighties you missed the boat....

they willl let you make some money so they can take that shit, then lock yo ass up...

but you see my point... many of my new york peeps mass migrated out of nyc because of gentrification and them not being able to hustle like they used to....

if you aint into high tech hustling yo aint making no money in new york...

brothers was still selling shit on corners and white boys was online making millions with the dark web..

many still are...

2016 and ninjas still care where some hip hop act is from? :smh:

Every group appropriates from every other group. It's been happening since the beginning of time.

And as far as musically, the acts/sounds/trends/areas that are out now are out because the labels feel they can make money off of them. Whatever trend is hot is the trend that every label will push out. If Eskimo Rap becomes hot, you best believe every fucking label and artist will be rapping about igloos with that Antarctica flow.

Why do they need a chance to make NY sound?

Joey Bad ass has NY sound and he's young.

And it ain't popping at the highest level which is what the kids who are copying what is mainstream are trying to do.

There has to be more than 1 way to be accepted and right now there isn't in ny and they're suffering because of it.

Only the south is popping right now, minus Kendrick and Drake. Right now there's no east cost presence or west coast presence in mainstream Hiphop. And to be honest future has a lot clones in the south as well. I heard a song in the radio called moolah I could have sworn was future but it wasn't.

Which is my point.

An ny Mc option right now is stay true to boom bap an tweak it a lil

Or sound like the south.

Nobody in ny is trying to accept a new ny sound that's why these other regions always evolve west and south don't sound the same they did in 95 they took principles explored evolved and keep evolving it's encouraged
Not so much in ny

You're talking about Young Greatness.

I hate to break it to you niggas, NONE of the coasts are popping right now... not a single coast or region. Toronto is running this rap shit right now :dunno:

"How you let me run it down here?..I aint even from around here"

Sad but true

On a sidenote: I think Future created a monster. 85% of the rappers out now either got influence from him, or are flat out copying

I predict Future and his wave is coming to an end soon. If he doesnt evolve his sound, he will get caught up in the undertow and fall off as well....

That was wack lol

He literally came down there to get on and is owned by a dude from houston. And a label from new Orleans lol

My thing is why did it take a rapper from Toronto to put on for Houston/New Orleans?

If the rappers in those areas are really so hot, why did J Prince and Baby bypass them for a Canuck?

It didn't lol.
Heard of lil Wayne? Nikki and Drake went there because lil Wayne was the biggest rapper on the planet

They not on cash money they on young money

Nope..... It's still the south

Lol you mean Toronto that uses southern sound?

Man, y'all can stay on that "southern sound" shit if you want, if it's the south's sound why NOBODY from the south making half the noise ol boy making?

Exact line I was thinking of. A lot of these niggas, @jasonblacc excluded, are stuck in the 90s with the region and coast cry baby shit. I've said it a million times, because of the internet these young niggas don't care about none of that. At this point the coast and region talk is an old nigga's sport

Boom bap n G Funk is dead

No East or West

No matter how u break it down majority of the sound is Trap which is Southern music

Of course we excluding the 3 at the top Drake, Kendrick, n Cole

We was sitting around talking like if somebody was smart they would bring back Crunk music truly believe it would take over again

This is what I was trying to explain to cats. At this point it is open season, anything goes...As long as the song is catchy it will blow.

The internet played a part as well, because back in the 90's when the net wasnt so prominent, people had no choice but to be stuck on the only sound they had access to. For example, the average Houston dude didnt have access to the latest Clue mixtape and the average NY dude didnt have access to the latest Screw mixtape.....As a result, the influence was more based on a person's region than it is now.....Thats why I say the internet is the gift and the curse, because it exposed us to alot of new shit musically, but also killed the region lines.

I couldn't agree more. Before your influences was whatever was in your backyard... it's still the same today, these kids just have a way fucking bigger "backyard", shit the world is their backyard. Look at young niggas like ASAP Rocky he's like 25, EVERYTHING influenced them cats (with a heavy emphasis on UGK) it's because of the internet and makes all the difference. I'm 5-7 years older than them niggas but by the time the internet popped I was already 16-17 listening to Cam, Jigga Nas etc and on BGOL laughing at flow fusion get roasted and darth harlem basically birthing memes b

dude got one song thats hot....the question for me is can he have overall success like future like fire mixtapes and albums. better yet how would he be on somebody elses track. lotta these southern dudes put out that one hit but cant keep the momentum going and then somebody else pops up. so it will be interesting to hear more of designer's subject matter and his production. pretty true all these sounds and regions are meshing together with everybody going for a southern sound but the main 4 .......kendrick,drake, j cole and future got they subject matter on lock. and mostly all these new cats be using the same producers so its gonna sound the same.least fab still holding new york down

Funny thing is even when other regions used to want to sound like New York, New Yorkers never accepted it. Now that they are sounding like everyone else, we're all cool with it. They can learn from that and humble the fuck out.

So they created hiphop. Cool.

Hey had to use funky southern music to make the beats, and they're all migrated from the south anyway. Relax New York, you're a part of the rest of the states and the wider world now. Come on in. We will always love that boom bap sound.
It's people in Brooklyn that are country as fuck, you can't tell them that tho. Way more country than Harlem.. Ain't nothing wrong with being country, ignorant is another story. The two are not synonymous.

Man!!! You ain't lyin. You could make record on Wednesday, give it to Gregg Street on Thursday, it would be on the radio on Friday and in the club on Saturday.

Go to Greenbriar an holla at Ommp Camp, shit would be on the radio. Chris Lova Lova would even put niggas on. It was crazy.

Get your shit boomin' in da shake jubts and you're as good as gold.

These niggas so hard up on seeing ine of their own in da spotlight that they'll claim to be in support of anything. Desperation. Niggas wanna get in on on some of that feature action too. Buddy is a straight up and down clone.

That was my favorite thing about Atlanta. I used to say it "was easy to get ears" down there. People really appreciate indie music down there and will give you the time of day. The exact opposite of what I was used to up north. I had shit on the radio and never heard it, didn't even listen to radio at the time but college and indie Dj's would play it without me stressing them.
