The Cavaliers have gone on to sweep an opponent every time when leading 3-0 in a series (2007 First Round vs. WAS, 2009 First Round vs. DET, 2009 Semifinals vs. ATL, 2015 First Round vs. BOS and 2015 Conference Finals vs. ATL, 2016 First Round vs. DET).
Cleveland remains the only undefeated team in the 2016 Playoffs (7-0). Cleveland will try to win its first eight playoff games for the second time in franchise history (2009 Playoffs).
In Friday’s 121-108 win in Game 3 at Atlanta, the Cavs connected on 21-39 (.538) shots from beyond the arc, becoming the first team in NBA history to have consecutive games with 20 or more three-pointers (regular and postseason).
The three-point shot has become the vocal point in this series.
Atlanta set a postseason franchise record with 16 triples in Game 3, finishing the game 16-34 (.471) from long range. The Hawks have hit 10-plus triples six times during the 2016 Playoffs overall (all three games of this series).
Cleveland has made at least 20 three-pointers in an NBA-record three games this postseason and leads all 2016 playoff teams in total three-pointers made (118), three-point percentage (.466) and three-pointers per game (16.9).
While the Wine and Gold caught fire from the outside, they were also doing work in the paint and on the glass.
Despite the Hawks big man duo of Paul Millsap and Al Horford combining for 41 points in Game 3, the Cavaliers have held the All-Stars mostly in check, especially on the boards.
Cleveland had a +27 (55-28) advantage in rebounding in Game 3 against the Hawks, which their biggest rebound margin in a playoff game in franchise history (previous was +23, 46-23, on 5/9/09 at ATL). The last NBA team to have at least a +27 margin on the glass in a playoff game was Washington’s +39 edge (62-23) against Indiana on May 13, 2014. (Elias Sports Bureau)
