Well Atlanta is a huge transplant city now, a lot of the people their aren't even natives of Atlanta. So the vibe of the city from like the 90's have changed. It's lots of Chicago people and New York people that reside there now. Plus homosexuality is more welcoming in Atlanta which is why a lot of gays from other cities love moving there cause they feel more comfortable there being gay.
