Frosty’s Civil war (comic’s) vs Civil war (movie) review.

The reason for this style review is before Civil war came out many was wondering about the events of the comic and what went down in that version. So I got the idea to contrast the comic version vs what the movie presents.

Needless to say there are spoilers ahead. Spoilers from both the movie and comics. SOOO if you don’t want to know what happened in both leave.

If you wanna skip straight to my thoughts on the film just scroll to the ironman pic it picks up after that.

The comics Version of Civil war set the Marvel universe on fire! It crossed over into damn near every major comic title. Even uniting x-men, avengers, fantastic four and wolverine in the ultimate telling of the story.

The story ran across 106 comic books in all. I wont recap it but will give my main impressions from the 3 major plot pointes.

While the whole thing started with an explosion that killed 600 people. It set off a government initiative that saw the beginnings of the superhuman registration act. The act would have superhumans revealing their true identity and power to the government. Imaging a self ocking here on BGOL similar idea and resultant consequences.

IMO 3 main plotlines formed the decision of which side you were on. Cap and his folk was against it while tony and reed were for it as the lesser of a greater evil.

Spidey

Poor spidey was caught in the middle and became the poster boy of why SH should submit to the registration act and since he had begun working for Tony (and given a nifty suit upgrade) tony asked him to PUBLICLY reveal/OCK himself.

That went as well as Dr Truth rolling up on Esters crew and saying lets have drinks. ALL of spideys advasaries and J Jonah Jameson went after him and his family (aunt may and Mary Jane.)

Reed Richards

Reed was down with Tony from the get and you really didn’t know why. Ben stuck by tony cause that’s what Ben does. But Sue and Johnny joined team cap.

We all know how pussy whipped reed is for sue but he stood his ground even when she left. He was down for the cause and NOTHING could sway him. Turns out the reason he was down was due to one of my favorite book series by Isaac Asimov: The foundation.

Turns out Reed had read it as a kid and worked out his own method for psychohistory.

Psychohistory is a concept of mathematical sociology. Using the laws of mass action, it can predict the future, but only on a large scale.

Reed used this to determine that the superhuman registration act was the best chance for super hero’s to survive without setting off a global war.

Tony stark endgame

Tony’s action were not based on such facts and logistics tony’s end game once revealed made the whole fucking story worthwhile. While others had the emotion of right and wrong and reed had his facts and logic Tony was working with brass fucking balls!!!

The reveal at the end when cap finally realizes he is fighting on the losing side and surrenders is very powerful. Sadly in the comics Cap is killed before it comes and Tony goes over this as he has a quiet moment with Cap’s dead body.

Tony’s whole reason for doing this and pushing was to save his friends!

For his part in bringing his friends and various superpowered Humans together to accept the registration act Tony was given Complete control of SHIELD and HE was the one in control of the list!

Now based on all that I couldn’t wait to see what aspects would make the movie and how they would adapt certain missing/unavailable characters with what they have…

I tossed all that shit out my mind and just enjoyed the ride. Civil War is the ever continuing story of mini masterpiece chapters of the great marvel saga.

There was a thread talking about marvel’s ‘problem’ namely a lack of a real villain. Fuck all that shit. Like I stated in that thread this ride began with Fury talking to Tony about the Avengers initiative It has been building up to culminate with the greatest villain/threat in Thanos of Titan in Infinity War.

But that’s down the road. One thing I love about how the MCU has come about is that they do not sacrifice story to get to the end game. They have carefully prepared the various chapters (movies) introducing us to the main players/pieces, so that once the board is set the game can play out to its inevitable conclusion.

In the here and now Civil war the movie is a well done chapter and verse that moves at a quick fucking pace but does not lose you. There is a ton of action in this movie damn near from the beginning, but for the most part it keeps with its story and continued character development. Zemo and the winter soldier are the catylist that moves this forward. 2 characters with opposite motives that engineers different motives for our hero’s. You have Zemo pulling the strings to lure out TWS. He does this in a way (later we find purposeful way) that ensures Tony will in effect be on his side.

The resulting man hunt for TWS pits cap against his new ally’s vs the friend of his long lost youth.

IMO this creates a backlash of personal introspection of the major/known characters as to how they respond to this dichotomy. Whose side do you take the one your being TOLD is right or the one you FEEL is best. Do you accept the logical need of the socovia accords or do you follow your heart and principles that you stand for?

This breaks it down to a classic battle of good and evil right and wrong, but on an inward level. IMO there is no enemy or villain in Civil war because in actuality the civil war is with-in each combatant.

Each was torn between what’s right on a logical plane and what’s right on an emotional/philosophical plane.

Take Vision for example He laid out the logical need for the accords and went to great lengths to protect Wanda, but even he when it came down to it was split or distracted due to the inner conflict or civil war he was fighting internally.

Same goes for Rhodey. He backed his friend and leader like any good solder would, but deep down he knew these accords would tear the team apart.

In the end the accords accomplished the mission of revenge that Zemo wanted. He did indeed tear them apart from the inside.

“An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again, but one which crumbles from within…that’s dead forever!”

He had, it seemed, toppled them from within by showing tony the stark (forgive the pun) naked betrayal from his friend.

Thing is when you face and survive such a conflict, such an internal struggle you come out stronger. I think this is what the end scene showed when tony got the letter (Beautifully delivered by Stan the man Lee!)

That truce, that resolution of hey we had a difference of opinion or ideology but no matter what we got yo back, proved We are stronger than this no matter how painful it was to go thru it.

Great fucking movie.

Ok now that we got that shit out the way lets talk about BLACK MUTHA FUCKIN’ PANTHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

This shit was beyond my wildest hopes and dreams. I love the way Chadwick Boseman played him and I am gratefull that they didn’t put the CAC fuck to him. He thruout the movie was intelligent, resourceful and fucking deadly!

No quarter was asked and none were fucking given!

From the start he was a force to be reckoned with and that did not change one bit thru to the fucking end credit scene. He fucking held his own against every opponent he faced both on a physical level as well as cerebral/psychological level.

I absolutely Loved the BOBA FETT Move he pulled on Tony, following that mutha fucka to where cap was.

Loved the fact he was ready and more than able to Kill TWS

but was wise enough to see the ultimate game being played and got to the bottom the real source of what was going on.

I am kinda torn, on one hand I wish he woulda let that CAC zemo blow his head off, but it was nice the way he sonned him and let him know the living are not done wit yo ass!

Cannot fucking wait until his movie and love the fact that its coming out Feb 2018 and will lead up to Infinity War!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I guess I will say this about Spidey.

When they started talking about oh you cant do Civil War without spidey My reaction was FUCK HIM. While he played a big role in the comic Civil War. I Knew the MCU would be just fine without him…Boy was I wrong. While he did have some great moments in the movie that’s not what impressed me.

What impressed me was for the first time ever we got the real Spider-Man... Not some 27 year old playing a kid (Tobey Maguire, Garfield was 29) . But a real teenager playing him!!!

I think in the past we accepted it just to get to see a good representation of spidey on the big screen. But this Tom Holland kid (19) is a fucking game changer.

The whole avengers lure has wore off for me.

The movies seem all the same (with guardians being the exception) I was honestly board with this one.

I even said to myself after the 3rd time he fought Bucky in this "Jesus fucking Christ can we get anything new?"

Spiderman and the airport fight were the only good thing about this movie to me.

And the civil war story line was simplified so much and watered down that this was just avengers 3 cuz they bicker and fight amongst themselves they way they did in this for 2movies already.

anybody got a drop for the some of the Civil War comics, my movie ticket came with the first 3 main issues, IronMan#1, Civil War / Avengers#1 and I think Spiderman (I haven't redeemed them yet).

Wait...what?!?

Cousin....we need to talk.
I'll be back.

Ok I will add I was highly amused when Tony cut off Bucky arm.

I guess that could have been more cuz I was so sic of Bucky.

This

These are very interesting comic book stories that i didn't read growing up. I'd like to read them and also pass down to my daughter and son to read. Is there a place that groups together these comics and sells them as a complete box set?

I'd drop serious coin on something like that...

Its much easier now to just buy the trades...

they are usually on sale too.

I'm not sure the cheapest places but Amazon, clearance at Barnes and Nobles brick and mortar are good places.

And ACTUAL comic book shops.

and book stores always have them on clearance too.

GREAT POST AND WRITE UP LORD FROSTY...

You took the words outta my head and typed them for me.

Only thing I would add is the work of the 2nd unit - it was amazing. The photography was good in Winter Soldier but this is damn near perfection. You feel every move and the angles show the choreography - it gives us insight into the actual mindset of the actors.

Having Ryan Coogler there to oversee Panther with Chadwick was genius. They just started something that will continue all the way through Black Panther to Infinty War.

Again, Second Unit wok aint no joke, it is a whole other film within the film itself and when those images are married together, the style and the editing has to flow accordingly. They did an excellent job of slowing down when we needed and then speeding up for the action scenes. There might be an award in here somewhere down the line.

FAM - What are saying?? You of all people.

Winter Soldier was the most adult and best filmed flick in ALL of the marvel flicks. It looks and breathes like a regular real world film. The pacing, the editing, the angles, the stuntwork and the fighting scenes - even the FPS seem different. I dunno all the tech shit to over explain but its there.

I love Guardians for what it is - Marvel Star Wars - the space opera, the sci fi fantasy but Civil War is a step above everything weve already seen. You cant even match the Iron Man films or Ultron or Thor to ANY of the images in Civil War. It looks completely different.

Salute....that was fantastic.

We need to work on something together me you Bills, vicious, jay Dade and a few others...

Imagine a Black grantland website for comics sports movies music tv, etc.?

We damn near do that now!

THIS!!!

NICE FIND DRAY!!!

Thank You Lord Furious!

Y'no this has been playing in the back of my mind for a while now.

With the smoothness and direction that all of these marvel movies have taken building up to the infinity war...

I would not be surprised if Infinity War part 2 wins a best picture Oscar in the same fashion that Peter Jacksons return of the king won for the Lord of the rings trilogy as a whole.

I believe that real movie makers and story tellers can’t help but to acknowledge what is going on in the MCU! How each chapter/movie is telling its own story moving us to the end game of the Infinity War.

Just like you pointed out the visuals/photography and second unit work all on point. Something the average movie goer may not notice, but the industry insiders do.

As a whole in acknowledgement of such cinematic excellence on such a broad scale it would be fitting for them to reward this great accomplishment same as they did for lord of the rings!

Nuther reason these movies DESERVE a best picture Oscar at the end such beautiful attention to detail:

This lil easter egg was hidden in winter solder

when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johansson) found the secret Hydra bunker that contained the computerized brain of believed to be dead, Arnim Zola (Toby Jones). The living computer informed the two that Hydra was alive and well, growing inside of SHIELD. Zola explains that whenever "history would not cooperate—history was changed." Quick flashes of images of the Winter Soldier appeared on screen, followed by a news headline about the death of Howard and Maria Stark in a car accident in 1991.

_1462570306.jpg

This was the one lil nitpick I had about the movie HOW COULD CAP KNOW ABOUT HIS PARENTS?!?

He was there when zola revealed it duh!

Nate Moore, the Secret Weapon Behind Marvel’s On-Screen Blackness

Marvel’s universe grows even more diverse with Black Panther slated for a feature release in 2018. Moore is now getting his due for his behind-the-scenes influence.

Nate Moore arrives for the UK film premiere ‘Captain America: Civil War’ at Vue Westfield on April 26, 2016, in London, England.

Nate Moore has achieved a “marvel” feat of his own: Going from reading comics as a kid to landing as executive producer alongside Marvel mastermind Stan Lee himself for the iconic brand’s latest global smash, Captain America: Civil War.

To say that’s worlds away for a kid who grew up with a single mother, two sisters, an older brother and a love for the movies in Clovis, Calif., a mid-sized town over three hours from Los Angeles, is far from cliché. An internship with Columbia Pictures led to Moore’s first industry job as an assistant, as well as his first brush with Marvel working on Spider-Man. A little over six years ago, he officially joined the universe and has helped spread the Marvel magic to a new generation on the big screen.

The Root caught up with Moore in Atlanta and talked about his rise at Marvel and, of course, lots of Black Panther.

The Root: When you first joined Marvel, what did you do?

Nate Moore: I worked on the Marvel Writers Program. So the idea with the Writers Program was to develop all of the characters that weren’t currently on the slate. At the time they were in pre-production on Captain America I [The First Avenger] and Thor, but characters like Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, and Guardians of the Galaxy were in the Writers Program so I was trying to figure out ways to get those scripts into shape so that they could be made into movies.

While I was in there, I was able, with Nicole Perlman [first woman to write a Marvel film], to get Guardians of the Galaxy up to the point where we were going to make the movie, which was great, but we also needed to make Captain America 2 [The Winter Soldier] so [the producer] said, ‘Hey I know you helped to make Guardians, so will you help me with Captain America 2?’ and of course I said, ‘Yeah,’ because I’m not crazy. And so that’s how I ended up on Captain America 2 [The Winter Soldier]. Markus McFeely crafted that story, introduced the Falcon and hired Joe and Anthony Russo and that film did really well so they kept the team together for Captain America 3 and I sort of was promoted from co-producer to executive producer.

TR: Since you’ve been there, Marvel’s universe has gotten really diverse. We’ve seen Don Cheadle in Iron Man, Anthony Mackie in Captain America, Zoe Saldana in Guardians of the Galaxy and now Chadwick Boseman starring in Black Panther. Is this a coincidence?

screen_shot_20160507_at_9.23.08_am.png.CROP.rtstory-large.23.08_am.png

Chadwick Boseman portrays Black Panther.

NM: I think it is a reflection of the characters [already in the comic books]. Like, for me, Captain America and the Falcon were always together so when I started Captain America: Winter Soldier, the first thing I talked to Markus McFeely about was how do we bring the Falcon into the universe because that’s a character that resonates with me. For Civil War, when we were looking for the character who could stand next to Captain America and Iron Man and feel like an equal, the first character I thought of was Black Panther because, again, for me, that was the character as a kid that I responded to. So yeah, I think it’s sort of a reflection of what I liked as a kid, and I liked black superheroes because they were a reflection of my experience.

TR: Let’s talk Black Panther.

NM: I think [Civil War] does a great job introducing the character and making him somebody you’re immediately interested in and want to know more about. The Black Panther standalone movie now gets to explore the world of Wakanda, the most technologically advanced nation in the heart of Africa, which is amazing. It’s really compelling and Black Panther has a great cast of characters around him that’s really interesting.

So it gets to be a movie that is going to be a predominantly black cast, whether it’s African American or African, on sort of the scale that you don’t get to see all the time. For us, it’s Mission Impossible; it is a globe-trotting, action-adventure movie, but with really interesting casting. Ryan Coogler, who is directing it, is super talented and I think sees this film as an opportunity not only to really entertain, but also to tackle some really interesting issues.

TR: Why is Ryan Coogler the right director?

NM: I think he’s going to tell a really great story. Just his approach to Wakanda I think is really compelling. It is both faithful to what happens in the comic, but also contemporary in a way that comics sometimes aren’t. His ideas for casting are really cool. His ideas for action are really cool. We are officially in pre-production [in May] so it’s happening and it’s really exciting and he’s co-writing it with a writer named Joe Robert Cole.

TR: Isn’t he black and didn’t he write and co-produce on The People v. O.J. Simpson?

NM: Yeah. I think he ended up writing three episodes for that show and he came out of our Marvel Writers Program. He’s super talented as well. It’s interesting because he spent a lot of time in the Bay [Area] so they have some interesting shared history and I think together they are coming up with some really cool ideas.

TR: So what makes Chadwick Boseman, whom we know as Jackie Robinson from 42 and James Brown in Get on Up, Black Panther?

NM: There’s such a gravitas to his performance. Even on set I think the other actors were sort of surprised because Marvel films, when we’re filming, are actually really fun and everyone’s kind of playful. Chadwick is very serious and sort of has this bearing that forces you to pay attention and also kind of forces you to not joke around so much because he’s so good, even in stillness. Like even when he’s not saying anything everybody just sort of can’t help but look at him. So, in the film, I think you really feel that. You feel that everyone else goes, ‘Oh I have to take that guy seriously.’ And he moves on the screen in a way that’s really amazing.

When we cast him, the truth is we had only really seen 42. I always remember the scene in the tunnel where he loses it and he can only do it in private and we were like that kind of strength is something we want this character to have. And he’s also a chameleon because, when you look at all those movies, he’s so different. Jackie Robinson is so different from his James Brown and I think will be much different I’m sure than his Thurgood Marshall.

TR: How have audiences responded to Black Panther so far?

NM: Now that the film is out, the response to Panther is so strong because we took the time to do it right ... Now we can just tell a really good story for Black Panther and they’re going to come to that too.

Captain America: Civil War is in theatres now. Black Panther is slated for a 2018 release.

Buy the trades?

Bruh i know SHIT about comics...what's this mean and point me in a direction to buy

bgol got you covered.

but you can go to the library Amazon and all bookstores for trade paperbacks that contain entire runs of popular comics...

all you need is download any free cbr reader for your phone or tablet to read the digital versions.

And I guess I will say this about Spidey.

the issue with the other actors that played Spiderman, while they did good with the image, the quips werent quite there. Their jokes were dry and stale. But this dude, he had the presence and the jokes were on point. They didnt seem forced. Ironically, it seemed like the jokes just sort of came out on their own, as if they werent even in the script. I don't even recall laughing at any other previous spiderman movies.

'Captain America: Civil War' worth your box office dollars?

According to a new theory making its way around the internet, Marvel character Captain America is owed $3 million by the United States Military.

The online buzz began when one Reddit user posted the theory that the superhero was owed millions in back pay for his service.

The theory details that after defeating Hydra in World War II, Captain America was lost for six decades between 1945 and 2011. Since he was technically not discharged, the theory argues that the government owes him back pay for the 66 years he was missing.

The theory garnered a lot of attention from fans, and the Army issued a response.

"If Capt. Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) were not a fictional character and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and recovery actually real, he may actually be entitled to receive back pay," Army spokesman Wayne Hall toldBusiness Insider. "However, a wide variety of variables would have to be taken into consideration to actually calculate the true amount of back pay to which he would be entitled to receive; given that he is a fictional character we cannot truly capture all of those variables accurately."

Hall also said the Reddit user "misinterpreted military pay scales" when calculating the $3 million figure. Hall implied the Army could owe Captain American much more, explaining the fan theory fails to take into account "any potential promotions that may have been bestowed upon Rogers while he was listed in a 'Missing' status."

Why the Movie Captain America: Civil War Didn’t Have the Comic Book’s Dark Ending

Spoilers ahead for Captain America: Civil War.

You might think that if a dozen superheroes battled each other, as they do in Civil War'scolossal airport set piece, at least one of them would end up in the morgue. In the movie, things don't reach that point: Though War Machine pilot James Rhodes suffers a paralyzing injury, the fatality count doesn't exceed zero. That's a significant departure from the original comic book version for this story, wherein someone does indeed die — and it's the title character.

In the epilogue of the comics arc Civil War (Captain America, issue No. 25), Captain America is assassinated. Following the schism between the superheroes (in the comics story line, it's because of the Superhero Registration Act), Cap surrenders to the authorities, and then, on the courthouse steps, he's shot — first by Crossbones, and next by a brainwashed Sharon Carter. (The death didn't stick — superheroes don't stay dead for long in comic-book world).

This, however, was not the story that the directors Joe and Anthony Russo wanted to tell. When Vulture caught up with them at the Cinema Society and Audi-hosted screening of the film in New York, they said they had discussed the original comics version, but rejected it.

"Here's what it is," Anthony Russo explained. "We were trying to tell the story of a family falling apart. The tragic end of that story is that the family is divided. For us, the emotional catharsis that we were driving at was the difficulty of that kind of ending. We didn't want it to be that the family is divided, and then somebody dies, you know?"

With Cap's survival, he can come back for subsequent Marvel films, including both parts of Avengers: Infinity War. Since the Russo brothers are set to deliver those next two installments, we wondered if actor Chris Evans's contract — and his willingness to extend it — was a factor when they decided how to conclude the conflict in this chapter? Did it have any bearing?

"You know, it does," Joe Russo allowed, "but we really don't pay any attention to contracts. It's really about the storytelling at the end of the day. It's nice that everybody's under contract, but ultimately, it doesn't mean job security."

"All the contracts do is give you an option to use somebody," Anthony Russo added. "They don't give you a mandate to use someone." Which means, until they're confirmed, don't assume anyone in the MCU will show up just because they have multiple films left on their contract — even if they're hunky or hulky.
