Looking at the Cavs this year and they look just like the team last year, before the Mozgov trade.... The thing about that trade is that it gave them a legit rim protector and by getting rid of Waiters and getting Shump and JR, it allowed Irving to move to the point and moved JR and Shump to the 2 spot., this upgraded their perimeter defense..
So the trade gave them some perimeter defense, that prevented dribble penetration and gave them a rim protector, plus they had to option of playing Thompson if teams went small..
Now Mozgov is a shell of himself, Shumpert don't look 100, and Irving looks like he lost lateral movement step and with no rim protector this leaves the defense vulnerable..
I noticed what they were doing was collapsing in the paint, leaving the outside shooters wide open..
And to make matters even worse, they are too small for big teams and not athletic enough for smaller teams, just like before the trade...
I think they finally realized that they are handicapped and said fuck trying to be the team they were last year (a team that would beat you with their half court game and rebounding) by pulling out their center (well half a center Thompson) replacing him with Love..
I guess their logic is whats the use of trying to get rebounds when you cannot stop the other team from making shots and the guy you have in there to get rebounds cannot create his shot on the other side..
This plan actually worked vs a bigger Piston team so perhaps they have their style to go up against bigger teams...
