Calvin Johnson set to retire

I hope we do draft a new QB, I never liked Stafford. We was just stuck with his contract since we drafted him and he got that big signing bonus. I'm sure the new regime will look into starting completely over with a new QB coming soon. Stafford may be on his way out the door. I hope so.

I would gladly trade you Matt Ryan for Matt Stafford.

dam detroit had two great players just walk away.......loyal to say the least. hope calvin take some time and come back to another team. detroit had him giving his all. get with another offense where he dont have to take all those hits. he could play like marvin harrison did with the colts.catch the ball he going down lol. seems like a real smart dude tho so he knows whats best for him......the league need more players and wideouts like him

I agree. After hearing about Randel-El, fuck that shit. Get the money and get out. Cats staying in the game too long ending up getting wheeled around like Stephen Hawking.

That's why Bettis retired. He said he went to interview Earl Campbell, and watching him struggle just to walk from room to room, or just getting out of a chair was painful to watch. Then he said that he realized that they had similar running styles and he pictured himself like that in the future, and that sealed it for him. Him going out with a ring was just icing on the cake. He was retiring regardless.

Wait a minute?

If he DOESN'T retire NOW and holds on to the start of the season

he would not only NOT owe the remainder of the signing bonus money

BUT
he would also be a FREE AGENT!?!??!!??!

why isn't he doing THIS????

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Lions' "goal" is to retain Calvin Johnson with a Larry Fitzgerald-esque extension.

That's after they convince him to keep playing. Johnson has yet to publicly announce his intentions, but multiple reports suggest he's serious about retiring. If he changes his mind, the Lions apparently won't be paying him his $15.95 million salary, which comes with a monumental $24 million cap number. Fitzgerald agreed to a two-year, $22 million deal under similar circumstances last offseason.
