Because it is Michael Jackson and the insane stuff that he done in his life. A white man playing Michael Jackson along with his voice is going to be some funny shit.
Thinking about all the MJ jokes and satire shows from the last two and a half decades, it's hard to think that this shit wouldn't be funny.

The premise is a trip, but I don't see that it says anywhere that it's a comedy. Although I guess how could it not be.
That said, I didn't say it was a biopic, and I think it's crazier to call it a Marlon Brando movie or a Liz Taylor movie.

To play adult Mike past the 80s? They could either hire a white man/woman or have a black man go through 3 hours of special effects make up every day before filming.
To be fair, unless they were going to hire an actual "white Mike" impersonator, then the logical choice is going to be a white man.
Post 9/11 MJJ was not light-skinned, he was full blown bleached out white and no longer had any black facial features. Having a black actor play white Mike would be like having Mike Tyson compete on Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader: too much goddamn work involved.
