Weather 1/18: Major snowstorm may threaten DC to NYC Friday into Saturday

my girls heard this on the radio and told me to go ask my scientist friend on the internet Uncle Self!!!

I'm truly amazed at the overall model agreement and consistency with this though. Especially 4-5 days out. The GFS out performed the Euro this weekend, but the Euro has been tips for months. What's your gut call?

The GFS usually out perform the euro during the winter. It's hurricane season where the euro whipps ass.

Gut call is something is going to happen from NC to the northeast. Impacts depends on air temps, moisture availability, timing, and track of the system. As you can see there are several factors to consider.

Yep. It's funny, because most of the people that ditch out down here are from the mid west or up north, and they all say the same thing: "I'm used to driving in the snow! I didn't count on the ice!" No shit.

Every Up north kat I have met in NC be yapping that shit until their ass realize there is a quarter inch thick sheet of ice on the road, snow and sleet in the middle and another sheet of ice for good measure.

This... We don't really get snow. Snow ain't shit, we get ice. No one is fucking with ice. Last year I was trucking along on 77 in the slow lane, a big ass truck on mudtires came rumbling through like it was rain or something... Caught back up to him about a mile later... Next to that concrete median facing the wrong direction... It ain't all snow homie!!!

Thanks man! I definitely hear you, certain things have to fall in place at the right time. The one thing that I'm glad to see is that the northern jet seems to be pushing a little bit more northeastward and that should prevent and out to sea situation, plus I'm liking that South East Ridge. Did you see how strong the storm is off of the Pacific Northwest Coast already? This thing could be a beast, and I am a Snow lover so I'm good with it!

Why you allowing ya girl to have access to bgol? :hmm:

I've found a way to make bgolkids!!!

If we could find away to exterminate some of the f*ck boys on here the education money saving movies music family friendly stuff is damn near unrivaled. A few years I had bgol graphic arts design a birthday cake I STILL get compliments for years later.

Self helped answer an astronomy question last week and the science teacher actually discussed it in her advanced class.

Hell bgol family found me free classes for STEM and coding for the kids.

First rule of bgol is don't talk about bgol...but the info needs to be shared.

Just promise to delete all my threads when I'm gone though...:hmm:

Man don't nobody got time for all that snow bullshit.10-12 weeks until we back to the 60s maybe some mid 70s.

I don't believe this shit. All the crakkas this weekend will buy up all the bread, milk and salt from the stores watch. Crakkas do that shit all the time.

I hope it misses Montreal, even if there is 150 inches dropping there is no days off for me, I still got to go to work :mad:

Went to Costco this pass weekend so the fridge is stacked.
Already informed coworkers that Friday is a "work from home" day.
Cable bill paid and all Kodi devices up to date.
Only need a couple of select bottles of fire water before Friday and I'm good.
Probably won't see me outside until Sunday afternoon. If that.

Went to Costco last night... all shovels gone! Gonna have to keep checking till they re-up.

Actually it's all people but mostly them. We're expecting what, possibly two days of snow and everyone acts like we're gonna be stuck in the house for weeks!

I'm like "Why do you need 10 pounds of steak and 12 loaves of bread"?

"Why you getting 5 gallons of milk"?

I don't know if they're preparing for snow or recreating "Noah's Ark" :smh:

I'm definitely not one of them katts. I moved down here last year and no all too well bout that ice and lack of salt trucks. Toss in the ridiculous amount of streets that have no street lights and it's a wrap 4 wheel drive or not.

Well it's looking like I was smart to get those 2 containers of ice melting salt from Target earlier this month. I knew it would only be a matter of time before some snow or ice came through & my driveway is on an incline. I'll be damn if I bust my ass trying to get to my car or slide on my driveway trying to leave or return home. Fuck dat! Fridge is stocked, Internet bill is paid so I'm good. I'll let them other mofos savage their way through the supermarkets, Target & Walmart in panic while I'm warm & toasty catching up on Netflix.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! I started bringing logs into the house last night. We moved into a new home late last year. Fireplaces on each floor. Only one fireplace is wood, though. Firepit outside. So a total of 4 fireplaces. Will bring in enough wood for 3-4 days. Gotta clear the garage so both cars are indoors. Work to do, work to do.

is Costco better than Sam's. I heard it is

The latest GFS run is showing some significant snowfall for the Mid-Atlantic states. Northern Va, Maryland, and southern PA are expected to get upward of 12 inches of snow with the sweet spot seeing up to 24 inches.

People central and northern parts of NC may see a significant icing event. Similar to the 2014 ice storm, the event may start off as freezing rain, then snow/sleet mixture, then snow, then back to the mixture.

Major cities to be effected are:

Winston Salem, NC (icing snow mix)
Greensboro, NC (icing snow mix)
Washington DC (snow mainly)
Baltimore, MD (snow mainly)
Philadelphia, PA (snow mainly)
