On a slightly different note, reading about this makes me want to take the time to give props to guys like Brandon Marshall, Charles Haley, Ron Artest, just to name a few -- volatile guys who recognized they had emotional issues and were pro-active in getting them treated before it destroyed them -- not that they were necessarily on the same path as Lawrence, but each could have found his life in ruin nonetheless.
Mental illness is a real thing, and I don't remember if anyone ever got to the bottom of what Lawrence Phillips' issue was, but I know more than a few tried to reach the brother. Sad that no one was able to get through.

wow; always sad, even with his self caused shit... and just the other night, I was watching the Youngstown Boys 30 for 30 and thinking wow, as unfortunate it is, what happened with Maurice Clarrett, he seems to actually have his head on straight and is making a decent life for himself even after washing out in the NFL and his legal problems...as opposed to Phillips.
I believe he was still communicating with one of his coaches. It was a sad story.

r.i.p. to the brother....remember watching some of his games ,straight beast in college.unfortunately he couldnt be on the football field all the time.dude just couldn't get right.reading some notes he'd wrote to his mother you can tell he was troubled and fighting it to the best of his abilities but he might have been fighting a battle he couldnt win.

Lawrence Phillips was one of the best college football players I ever saw he was that dude. He never the help he needed back when he played coaches just covered for him instead of trying to get him help. SMH RIP brother
