Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced yesterday the state would begin publicly shaming fathers who owe child support by posting on Twitter their names, photos, and the amount of child support they owe. The Twitter account, run by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES), has already shamed its first dad — and Ducey plans to shame a whole lot more.

"For too long, you’ve been able to remain anonymous, able to skirt your financial and legal responsibilities with no shame," Ducey said during his State of the State address on Monday. "Well here’s a new one for all the deadbeat dads out there: effective immediately, the state is going to begin posting the photos, names and money owed by these losers to social media, with the hashtag ‘#deadbeat.'”

The issue dates back to a 1999 law requiring the DES to post names and photos of individuals who owe child support to its website. Ducey, who said he's referred to as the "hasthtag governor," apparently wants to take it a step further for 421 parents who owe what the state considers to be a significant amount in overdue child support, a DES spokeswoman told CNN Monday. Ducey ended the announcement with a stern ultimatum: "If you don’t want your embarrassing — unlawful — and irresponsible behavior going viral: man up, and pay up."

Most states threaten to cut off a woman's benefits if she doesn't push for child support anyway. The fathers don't need to be shamed when their wages are garnished.

Also what happens if it comes out that he wasn't the father in the first place? Do these men get to sue the state for libel?

There is no shame in being a deadbeat dad. How many men out there are paying for kids that are not even theirs? If the bitch needs a child support check, then she is not capable of taking care of the kid. She should fork over custody to the father. You should have time with your child and support your child on your own financially as a father. Why the fuck are they shaming fathers who refuse to give these hood rats and trailer park roaches money to go spend on hair, nails, thot suits, other niggas and crackas, dildos and chooluns they have by other dudes?

The state don't care. Look how the system is setup. If two bums reproduce, one of the bums gets help from the government, while the other one(who is just as broke) has to pay the government back. :eek:

Best believe the government isn't going after cases where the mother isn't getting assistance. They like :angry: "fuck you bitches, we trying to get OUR money back!!"

If you are unsure, get a paternity test.
Better yet, make better choices about whom you bed with and who you choose to lay seed in.

There is no such thing as an accidental pregnancy. Once you have sex with someone you are willingly choosing to roll the dice unless you are certain she has been cored out or you have been snipped.

But if an employer finds out, they have a mandate to comply with a garnishment order.

Remember, garnishment doesn't follow a man from job to job. The man typically has to inform the court or the Mother has to inform the court the Father has a new job and has not registered.

If you go to court and agree to pay support for a child you have doubts is yours you're the fool. You can contest paternity before the order is handed down

I thought I saw somewhere that if you were put down as the father by the mother on a kids certificate you have to pay regardless if you are the biological father.
 
Never understood child support. If it takes a man and a woman to have a child, why does one pay child support and not the other?

If their wages are being garnished then they're not deadbeats.
Any order for child support comes with a paternity test. We have long past the era where a woman walks into court, names a Father, and the courts drop the hammer on him out of nowhere.

Child support is not 100% support. It is splits based on a formula that looks at both parents incomes, the %'age of time the child will be in a particular parent's possession, and other factors.

Granted if Father (X) is wealthy and Mother (Y) has relatively little income, the formulas are going to be weighted towards the Father because of the large disparity in income.

Simple, because hospitals don't want the 'daddy' shooting up the place when he finds out that the kid isn't his, and the state doesn't want another ward if the mother can't hold it down alone so the hospitals and the state have a silent agreement against mandatory testing- which is mostly fucked up because it would greatly help in detecting historical diseases the child might face early on.

But it ain't about the kid, or even about 'protecting' the woman, it's about the money.

the state taking care of single mother and their children is minimal compared to the other bullshit waste tax dollars are spent on. Then again this is America where being poor means you are no good and should be embarrassed at all cost

I would normally concur, but in this case the citizens are being compelled to pay for the irresponsible behavior of other adults.
This sets in place a climate of Moral Hazard and Adverse Risk for the public's funds.

Being poor doesn't mean you have to be deadbeat. Child support is structured around a income and scaled according to joint incomes with a minimum baseline for standard of care.
If one doesn't think they make enough to support a child, then have have no business procreating to begin with. You cannot cry about it being unfair after the fact.
 
Well if one parent has custodial custody, and the other parent is paying child support; it's not like the parent with the kid isn't paying to support the kid. Kids are pretty expensive, so if the non-custodial parent is paying $400 a month for support, that's not necessarily all that is needed for the child...
The problem isn't support itself, because yeah, a guy, or a woman should do their share of financially supporting their kids...but the problem is the possibilities of men paying for children that aren't theirs, and in many cases, being forced to continue paying after paternity tests have proven that it's not his kid. ...also, if a woman has 4 kids by 4 guys, and one is paying support, that support isn't going to end up being just for his kid, as it really should be. Of course other problems too.... for both men and women....
