Tim Donaghy, former NBA referee made an appearance on 60 Minutes in 2007 to explain his involvement in referring NBA games, of which, he gambled and made bets on the outcome. However, Tim goes into detail about how he and the other refs intentionally targeted All-time great, Allen Iverson due to his ‘behavior’. “He had threatened one of our official and the NBA fined him 25k and we thought as a group he should of been suspended and since he wasn’t, we was going to teach him a lesson.” Said Tim during the 60-minute interview.

Referees are known for favoritism and utilizing their emotions to make decisions; whether they like/dislike ‘x’ player for ‘y’ reason. “I know that there was certain relationship that existed between referees and players and referees and owners
that influence the point spread in games.” Tim said prior.

This is your typical crooked referee that had a gambling habit and used his knowledge for power to strategically predict the outcomes of games for financial gains.

What they did to Allen Iverson ‘disgusted’ him and as a fan, it still makes me furious that Refs has so much ‘power’ in their hands.

NBA basketball is more susceptible to referee massaging than probably most sports

There are no professional sanctions for their behavior either......and every time you point out their behavior the nba wants to levy fines..The players union really should address that in their bargaining agreement

Jordan has the common sense to put her jersey over his mouth while he was taking if he was going to get in a referee's ear about a missed call / no call and not overly emote.



This is not to say that MJ did not receive special protections and treatment; he simply knew how to play the political and ego game better with refs.
