I don't know if he is full of shit....but I agree with the rest of this statement. Of Course!!! he is not affected by racism. He is the biggest MOVIE STAR in the world!!!!!!!!!! He is a well spoken, non-threatening black man. A current version of OJ Simpson "82 or Michael Jackson '85. As smart as he is, he still doesn't seem to understand why his experience is what it is. I would feel better if he stated what he said but then qualified it by articulating what his experiences are AND WHY!
I disagree with you conclusion. I do think he is aware of the intent of this message. You see, black people were just happy to see a face. And we were very content with that. But with technological advancement, lip service just doesn't cut it anymore. Will and the majority of the others have drawn the line in the stand. There's no incentive to even playing lip service to us anymore. And that's fine with me. But there will be a couple folks upset with his message.
I bet that shit is true for an wealthy easily distinguishable megastar like himself. But for the rest of us regular folks that shit ain't reality. I bet Alicia Keys and Beyonce experience the same type of acceptance.
my thoughts exactly i don't never take mega stars opinions on issues like this seriously. I like Will as a actor hell he even seems like a cool person but he to far removed to understand what the average black man goes through.

He never said that he wasn't affected by racism, he said that going by the dictionary definition of the word racism and prejudice he rarely faces racism as opposed to prejudice, something he faces everyday..
Most of what people points out and define as racism is really prejudice, because racism has more to do with a system the is designed to suppress a race of people or the belief that one race is superior than the other.. The problem is unless you know whats in other people mind it would be impossible to know if they actually believe their race is superior, often when you hear people talking that, its usually because they are projecting based off other opinions and prejudices..
However its a lot easier to see the prejudice in other people with out assuming and guessing. This doesn't make prejudice any less worse or less damaging, all its saying is that its easier to identify, with out assuming, being that it has more to do with ones actions rather than trying to figure out what they are actually thinking..

You can think of it this way, we face more prejudice on a day to day basics, dealing with individual people, however the impact of racism is far more greater because even though its harder to see, its institutionalized influences it much more deeper and pronounced...

This guy is a mega star and extremely wealthy. These things will insulate a person from the fuckery of this racist system in a huge way. Others have already said it in this thread but his experience is a unique one that can't be extrapolated to most black folks. I think Will is probably smart enough to understand this and he was speaking to his own personal experience. At least I hope so.

His assessment is off though. Racism is all around in America and is the seed that has grown this entire economy. African people are owed trillions for what they have done to us
