Will Smith says prejudice is everywhere but racism is rare

Ever notice how the only Negroes that say some asinine shit like this are the ones that are rich and successful. Nigga been fulla shit for decades.

I don't know if he is full of shit....but I agree with the rest of this statement. Of Course!!! he is not affected by racism. He is the biggest MOVIE STAR in the world!!!!!!!!!! He is a well spoken, non-threatening black man. A current version of OJ Simpson "82 or Michael Jackson '85. As smart as he is, he still doesn't seem to understand why his experience is what it is. I would feel better if he stated what he said but then qualified it by articulating what his experiences are AND WHY!

I disagree with you conclusion. I do think he is aware of the intent of this message. You see, black people were just happy to see a face. And we were very content with that. But with technological advancement, lip service just doesn't cut it anymore. Will and the majority of the others have drawn the line in the stand. There's no incentive to even playing lip service to us anymore. And that's fine with me. But there will be a couple folks upset with his message.

I bet that shit is true for an wealthy easily distinguishable megastar like himself. But for the rest of us regular folks that shit ain't reality. I bet Alicia Keys and Beyonce experience the same type of acceptance.

my thoughts exactly i don't never take mega stars opinions on issues like this seriously. I like Will as a actor hell he even seems like a cool person but he to far removed to understand what the average black man goes through.

Fuck you and Will Smith sleep on that. He ain't out here fighting for his people. He's a safe negro and you making excuses for him to hide behind being safe. I been out protesting all day for our people to stop spending money with these cacs and they corporations. Police harassed us for telling our people to keep they money and support our own and your in here pleading for this coon. Some of our people are so fucking stupid it makes us easier to be treated like shit. Fuck you muthafukkka you got me so heated right now I would lay hands on you if I could.

If what you say is true then i respect what your doing hell i was doing the same thing on a smaller scale though.

his comments infers black people are prejudice too. trying to appease whitey by selling us out

Yeah my thoughts exactly he playing it safe don't want to lose his mainstream following.

people speak from their own experiences....

this isnt rocket science

Weren't there white actresses that didn't want be his co-star/ leading lady because he's black? Wouldn't the whole premise behind that be because of racism?

he should put his words behind a banging beat. cats don't care what you say, as long as the beat is hot. he could glorify catching bodies, pushing weight, and nobody would care

you root and support a team that has riley cooper on it

every time you try and climb up on that soap box riley kicks that shit right from under you.

I understood what he was trying to say.
I think he was just explaining the difference between an individual person's bias/prejudice as opposed to ingrained systemic racism.
-He said he's experienced prejudice.
-He said his experience with racism is "rare". (Not that racism doesn't exist. Nor that he hasn't experienced it.)

He's NOT Larry Elder.
He's NOT Jesse Lee Peterson.
He's NOT Deneen Borelli.
He's NOT Allen West.
He's NOT Clarence Thomas.

He's not a racism denying fool like the above mentioned people. He just says that his experience with racism is rare.

He's an actor who is at a stage in life & career where just about every action he takes is heavily scrutinized by corporation execs, the public at large & by Black people in particular.

So how he chooses to walk that very fine line, live his life, word his statements & explanations is bound to anger, piss off or offend somebody.

This is about what I was trying to say at 4:30 in the morning

He never said that he wasn't affected by racism, he said that going by the dictionary definition of the word racism and prejudice he rarely faces racism as opposed to prejudice, something he faces everyday..
Most of what people points out and define as racism is really prejudice, because racism has more to do with a system the is designed to suppress a race of people or the belief that one race is superior than the other.. The problem is unless you know whats in other people mind it would be impossible to know if they actually believe their race is superior, often when you hear people talking that, its usually because they are projecting based off other opinions and prejudices..
However its a lot easier to see the prejudice in other people with out assuming and guessing. This doesn't make prejudice any less worse or less damaging, all its saying is that its easier to identify, with out assuming, being that it has more to do with ones actions rather than trying to figure out what they are actually thinking..

Racism
1. belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.
2.
a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3.
hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
Prejudice
1 injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard of one's rights; especially : detriment to one's legal rights or claims
2
a (1) : preconceived judgment or opinion (2) : an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge
b : an instance of such judgment or opinion
c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics

You can think of it this way, we face more prejudice on a day to day basics, dealing with individual people, however the impact of racism is far more greater because even though its harder to see, its institutionalized influences it much more deeper and pronounced...

Fuck Will and fuck Jada too.

If you have to look racism up in a dictionary that white folks wrote in order to understand the meaning, you're both blind and lost.

I hate "smart" dumb motherfuckers.

This guy is a mega star and extremely wealthy. These things will insulate a person from the fuckery of this racist system in a huge way. Others have already said it in this thread but his experience is a unique one that can't be extrapolated to most black folks. I think Will is probably smart enough to understand this and he was speaking to his own personal experience. At least I hope so. :dunno:

Meanwhile in the similar type of interview, his counterparts (well he's the chosen negro) on race / racism in hollywood...

He thinks it's not systematic that whites play black roles, that blacks can't even get roles in hollywood, or that when he plays the concussion doctor he doesn't even have a nigerian--or west african accent??

(My people that shit was so ignorant and uninformed, imagine a new york dude playing Tupac's life story with a Brooklyn Accent. Imagine having to sit through that, or a dude from Alabama playing Biggie's life story with a country alabama accent--all b/c all of the hundreds of people that touched that movie were too apathetic, myopic and/or homogeneous) to call that shit out....... Amazing :smh::smh::smh: )

Well said. i saw the video of his black ass in brazil... he probably thinks it's utopia for black people b/c his black ass had the crowd on his dick... I guess Black people who travel there to fuck hookers feel the same way--but i guess it's the old Animal Farm situation--Once you get to the 'big house' you become 'masta'... That's why we should build statues of heroes like Jim Brown, Ali! They are the heroes we need and deserve!!!

Co-sizzle. Man I can't get rich enough to say there is no racism. Will is my dude but wtf is he on? Shit's mad blatant in hollywood too. He crossed over and won favor at an early part in his career, doesn't hurt he's light skinned too. White people love him more than blacks:hmm:

[emoji38][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

That shit got real at the end there..... I wasn't ready.
White people looked mad uncomfortable too....they was like

"Should i laugh or not? Is this a joke? Inside joke maybe?"

Quote of the day.

My problem with what he said is that he said it. Now we all know the racist fucks will use that shit as some sort of words to fact matra. We will hear it at work, on news media, in debates, on social media, etc. He just gave white people fucking fuel. Fuel to try and water down our frustration as people of color. That's what pisses me off. I get he was probably talking from his point of view right now in his life. But even then, I'm confused why he wouldn't realize what he was doing. Racism is rare? Are you facing kidding me?

Thats why I tend to just refer to it as hate with varying levels.

Will ain't really ever been about properly identifying and addressing Black issues. He made a shit load of money, raised some weird fucking children, all around great life. His assessment is off though. Racism is all around in America and is the seed that has grown this entire economy. African people are owed trillions for what they have done to us

Hmm this probably has to do with his upcoming movie - Concussion. The nigeria doctor it portrays was not initially given credibility because he was an African migrant

But they gave the white chick credit, even though she was using his research.

I think he's saying people may hate you but they can't stop you from achieving.

Predjucie = hate
Racism = stopping the sucess of others

IMO, sounds like that's what he's saying

However, most coons say the same thing

I ain't saying shit, I think black folks who made it, usually lost touch with their people, I don't see doctors hanging out chilling with the boys they grew up with if they grew up poor.

Why do you guys have to think, after he made it clear exactly what he was referring to, he said he took the dictionary definition of the words..

And I have yet to see anyone here, using these definition of the word even attempt to prove him wrong..

^^^ Considering the root of prejudice is "prejudge", I find it hard to believe that people still confuse the 2.

Prejudice

And I have yet to see anyone here, using these definition of the word even attempt to prove him wrong..

well according to those definition (tho I disagree with how broadly racism is defined) Will experiences BOTH fairly often..not one more than the other..

particularly in his industry. How many all black cast films can will smith green light? How many all black cast films can he get a 100+ budget for that isn't starring him or his son?

Will may be making 20 million a movie but he has a boss (a bunch of them really) and those people are white males and they decide how far he can go.

yes racism is a system and one that is fairly entrenched in hollywood so Will is wrong to say that he rarely encounters it. Thats like a person floating in a cesspool and just becuz turds aren't floating in their face they say they rarely deal with shit. Dude youre surrounded by all kinds of shit all the time and it affects your life in a 1000 different ways most of which youre not even aware of.

In this case the cess pool is racism and the turds are prejudice.

Nobody considers Will to be on the vanguard of black issues. He will continue to play it safe and stack his paper just like Jay " I will wait til all the facts are in" Z.
