BURNT

I love food. I have The Food Network & The Travel Channel saved as favorites.I try to visit at least 2 new
restaurants a month. So watching BURNT and the food prep, and various places to dine in the film put
a big smile on my face.
The story is about Adam Jones, a once Top Chef who fell from grace when drugs and alchohol became
more important than producing fin cuisine,he was so out of it he can barely recall the pain he cause his
fellow chefs. But redemption may be a few great dishes away
Bradley Cooper is great as Jones ,the intensity, the arrogance mixed with touches of charm
It was great to see Cooper and Sienna Miller on the big screen together again.
Also turning in excellent turns are Daniel Bruhl ,Matthew Rhys and Omar Sy
BURNT isnt a flawless fil it definitley loses its rhythym at times, but it's definitely
a tasty dish.

GOOSEBUMPS

Never read the books but i did enjoy this action romp which reminded me of old school favorites like Gremlins
The entire cast seems to be having a lot of fun,and the story of characters within a book coming to life really
appealed to me,plus throw in a couple of cool twists and it added to this enjoyable romp

Scale of 1-10 an 8

Kind of shocked there wasnt a walk-on cameo by BGOL's own Divine ..unless its a cut scene that will be on the DVD/Blu-ray extras :roflmao2:

THE LAST WITCH HUNTER

220px-The_Last_Witch_Hunter_poster.jpg

Did Vin Diesel cut a deal with The Asylum or something..? This film kind of looked like something that came from their studio

Vin plays an immortal witch-hunter who is tasked with the job of coming between the covens of New York City and their goal to destroy humanity by way of a horrific plague.

Film was so-so,it also appears that Vin put his D & D playing days to good use..wasnt feeling Elijah Wood's priest character, who IMO looked as if he belonged in a different movie

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS

Jem_Movie_Teaser_Poster.png

If you were a fan of the 80s cartoon, dont go into this expecting a live-action adaptation because it most surely isnt one.. well, there is a connection somewhat to the series, you'll just have to sit through the end credits to see it

Scale of 1-10:None

SPOTLIGHT

Spotlight is the extremely riveting story of The Boston Globe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation into the widespread pedophilia scandals
and subsequent cover-ups within the Catholic Church in July of 2001

The film displays the heart of investigative reporting, and that initial clamor to get the story out there first to sell newspapers, but
we watch as each reporter becomes involved by speaking to the victims, and finding out the true power of The Catholic church
An outstanding cast lead by Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Brian D’Arcy James, Stanley Tucci,
Billy Crudup, Paul Guilfoyle, Jamey Sheridan, Len Cariou, Neal Huff, Michael Cyril Creighton. All add weight to their great performances

Of course the story was overshadowed by the beyond tragic and world changing events of 9-11,but the reporters never gave up,stayed on it,kept digging
and interviewing even risking long friendships, and associations because the story was bigger than them, because it had to be told ,it deserved to be in the
spotlight

Look for this film to win several awards that it definitely deserves

Scale of 1-10 a 10

side note: the film was almost sold out at 10 a.m in the morning and people in the audience were actually in tears, throughout the film

SPECTRE

Daniel Craig returns as James Bond OO7 For the fourth and possibly last time in SPECTRE.Craig is great as usual, but i felt the film even in it's
148 minute running time, didnt give certain characters enough screen time.Christoph Waltz as the villain Franz Oberhauser is great but he pops in
and out the film and is only in 3 key scenes.
What i always found effective about the Bond films was when he actually makes a connection with a woman beyond just hitting the sheets with them,
whether they turned out to be evil or good. This happens in the film in the form of the lovely and talented Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann.
Spectre is a fun Bond film laced with humor and a great supporting cast including Ralph Fiennes,Naomie Harris,Ben Whishaw and Dave Bautista
and has some really great action sequences.
I guess im still looking for this series of films to measure up to the great 2006 Casino Royale

Scale of 1-10 an 8

Thanks for the Spotlight and Spectre, JB.

Good to see Spotlight being well-promoted with the contests of late. Gonna probably see Spectre late in the month. A fam member really wants to see it and her bday is in early-December. Gonna probably take her.

The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?

Another great documentary about The Hollywood machine and how it works, this peek behind the curt....well cape is
great.Displaying how much goes into the pre production of a film, the inner workings ,the slight fights and difference
of opinons between the Director Tim Burton, the writer Kevin Smith and the Producer Jon Peters and ultimately
what put the final nail in the coffin of Superman Lives
Kudos to writer and Director Jon Schnepp for getting interviews with all of the aforementioned and dozens more

BROOKLYN

Nice slice of life late teen into adulthood film about an Irish Immigrant ,who finds herself in Brooklyn NY
and navigating herself, through a new job, college and finding romance.Charming and well acted nice to see
Saoirse Ronan grown up and coming into her own on the big screen

Scale of 1-10 an 8

THE MAN IN 3B

Nowhere near great or very good but i cant deny i was entertained by this choppily edited and sometimes badly acted film
about a mysterious man who moves into an apartment building and causes all kinds of chaos sometimes directly sometimes
indirectly.Kudos to Anthony Montgomery who made me laugh in almost every scene he was in

Scale of 1-10 a 6

Thanks for the 3 new reviews, JBlaze. Brooklyn was being well-promoted recently. A handful of screening contests out there (mostly based from Toronto).

Thanks, fam'. Entered 2 or so contests for Legend passes. Getting a bit tougher to win the passes locally. They're either doing the contests in single entry format, or unlimited. The unlimited ones run too long and are for coast-2-coast provinces. Those odds ... damn ... - trying to win some passes for Creed in late-November ...

Oh it was so much easier about 2 to 4 years ago to get passes
I would walk in the theatre and people would come right to me with passes
Now if you dont hop on a website for passes or watch it every 20 minutes passses vanish within seconds

I hear you, fam'. Or the bulk of the contests are on the really popular sites that generate a massive amount of traffic, and they have a limited # of passes available per market. Wish they would use more theaters around town too. They'v been using one downtown that takes forever to get to ... and parking i$ a bitch down there. Too costly. Might as well browse the BGOL Video Store or the interwebs for future savings instead :D

Secret in Their Eyes

Secret in Their Eyes is an always involving crime story about FBI investigators and the brutal murder of the daughter of one of the investigators
portrayed by Julia Roberts
Roberts immerses herself into the role completely capturing the broken spirit of a person that has experienced severe loss without justice
Chiwetel Ejiofor is great as her fellow investigator who want give up on nailing the man that committed the murder. Nicole Kidman does an ok
job as the District Attorney supervisor even though she kinds of fades away to the sidelines.

A very good story about, loss, loyalty and revenge

Scale of 1-10 an 8

LEGEND

Legend may have that been there done that feel, and borrows from other gangster films, but Tom Hard is mesmerizing in his dual role
as twin gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray. Hardy continues to prove that he is one of the best actor's ever.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 does it's best to shake off the stiffness of the last film, and erase the stretch marks of expanding the
films for financial reasons.Jennifer Lawrence is great as usual, it's a nice suspensful touch to keep Peeta(Josh Hutcherson) unstable
and Donald Sutherland is gleefully sinister.Couple this with some terrificly intense action sequences that kept me engaged but in the end i was
still hoping for a more satisfying finish to this series of films

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The Night Before

The Night Before has its laugh out loud moments but for the most part its stiff here and there.
The story is about 3 pals partying in NYC on Christmas Eve before they completely commit to
family, relationships and careers,Some great cameos help the film along and it has some heart to it
but this is best to watch on DVD while having a nice rum and coke

Scale of 1-10 a 6½

Props on the updates, JB. Always cool to read your reviews as you give the BGOL perspective on flicks prior to them being seen by everyone and & their grandmother. If BGOL had a newspaper, you'd run the Arts & Entertainment section as lead reviewer.

Complicit follows the trail of Edward(David Oyelowo) an MI5 officer desperate to foil what he believes is another 7/7 style atrocity planned by British terror suspect Waleed (Arsher Ali) despite the lack of any conclusive evidence. Edward, confronted by the key moral dilemma of our time, is forced into choosing between two morally devastating outcomes

Been done before, but none the less done very well...
7.5/10
Tension throughout

CREED
Creed_poster.jpg

No this doesnt have anything to do with the way-past overrated band:roflmao2:

Michael B Jordan plays Adonis"Donnie" Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, who sets out to follow in his late father's footsteps and become a pro boxer, with some help from none other than Rocky Balboa(Sylvester Stallone)

I wont spoil it for those who still havent seen it yet, alls i will say is that both Jordan and Stallone turned in good performances, and Ryan Coogler's direction was good as well..

Score of 1-10/9.5

I've never seen so much 10s given to movies on a scale of 1-10 in my life. Definitely appreciate what you do OP and the consistent reviewers in this thread. But, man ya'll gotta stop giving movies 10/10. After awhile that dilutes the rating system. Because I know damn well in the history of cinema there have only been a very small amount of movies to be considered "perfect" 10/10.

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

Damn fine film, Stallone was real humble to even do Rocky like this.

CREED

There is such a great flow and rhythm in CREED.It's in the acting and the direction. So much so i knew 20
minutes into the film i knew i was going to love it.Michael B. Jordan (proving once again all he needs is the right material to work with)
portrays Adonis Johnson in the film
A fighter even in his early years of life and a man who cant deny the legacy of his late father Apollo Creed,
and the boxing ring calling out to him.So he seeks out his father's former opponent and friend Rocky Balboa
(a beyond great and moving Sylvester Stallone).Reluctant to train Adonis at first but Balboa cant deny the spirit
Adonis has.
Adonis has the inner battle within himself.Trying to out run his father's shadow, and also trying to connect to it at the same time.
Fortunately he has Balboa in his corner and also a lovely singer named Bianca(funny that they named her that because
Tessa Thompson reminds of Bianca Lawson) warms his heart.
Creed goes for the heart several time and never misses and it it is a rousing and inspiring film,a film that almost didnt happen
but fortunately for audiences worldwide it did !!

Scale of 1-10 a 10

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN definitely has cheese all around its edges but i have to give praise to James McAvoy
as the title character for his enthusiastic performance and Daniel Radcliffe,as Igor portraying a man who struggles with his loyalty
to Frankenstein and his love for his lovely Lorelei (Jessica Brown Findlay)
Not great by any means but it does entertain here and there. One of those flicks for a slow Saturday night at home

BY THE SEA

So Angelina Jolie decided to direct and write an idle scene, foreign film with her husband Brad Pitt.Fortunately it's a well acted film
unfortunately its a ponderous chore to sit through at times. They're a married couple on a trip to Malta,he has writers block and clings to
getting drunk daily, and she sits out in the sun daily while never getting a tan. They are in i love you but i hate you mode, and a big secret hangs
over their heads and the audience that is talked around until the films final act.
Things liven up a bit when a young couple takes the room next door to them and they spy on them through a hole in the wall
and they eventually interact with them.
A nice effort but this is definitely for lazy,Sunday afternoon ,snowed in viewing.

Scale of 1-10 a 6½

Props on the update, JBlaze.

Talked to some fam' and we're aiming to check out Spectre next week. Gonna be out of town for a bit, and another person's getting over bronchitis.

CHI-RAQ

To get his anti-gun message across director and writer Spike Lee goes all out in his new film CHI-RAQ.
It's part musical, with some dance routines throughout, and is based on the ancient Greek play Lysistrata.
Titled CHI-RAQ because of the sobering 15 year statistic that more people have died in Chicago:
7,356,than in Iraq: 2,379

When the gun violence comes to the doorstep of Lysistrata(Teyonah Parris) and her gangster lover
Chi-Raq(Nick Cannon) and a young child is murdered Lysistrata rallies the women of her area to
withhold sex in order to stop the gun violence.

The film may be a bit jumbled and predictable at times, but Lee's message makes it through .
Parris i have watched her on shows like Mad Men but in this film she is a powerhouse,a beyond sexy
revelation. All of the actor's do a fine job ,Wesley Snipes character Cyclops eccentric quirks did throw me off for a bit.
Cannon does some of the best work of his career
CHI-RAQ is also a tribute to female activists worldwide.

There is a fantasy ...no correction a dream or two within the film that hopefully for us and the entire world
will one day come true

Scale of 1-10 a 9

KRAMPUS

Part Gremlins, part Santa Claws and is a very entertaining and fun romp, even with it's bleak look at the holidays and family get togethers.
In this film the constantly bickering and chafing family has to go up against the monster Krampus and his minions which include nasty little
ginger bread men that come alive. Not a perfect film but i really liked the little truths in this film and some of the action set pieces
I defy anyone that doesnt see a little of themselves in the characters

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

THE WANNABE

Im not really sure if i was supposed to take this film seriously or not which is loosely based on the events that lead up to the shooting of Guardian Angel
leader Curtis Sliwa. It's entertaining and well acted Patricia Arquette is the stand out .And if you were ever a fan of the Sopranos you will be happy to see part of the
cast in this film
I couldnt help but laugh at the exploits of the title character as he attempted to gain favor with John Gotti and his crew

Definitely worth a look when it hits cable or DVD

Scale of 1-10 a 6½

Had a chance to see Spectre (007) on Friday. Free tickets. Lead chick has some decent titties on her. Movie didn't have enough Naomie Harris or Monica Bellucci. Very small roles for them both. Dave Bautista (of WWE fame) was great in the action sequences. Believable with the fight/stunt choreography. Christoph Waltz is always good in villainous roles. The cars in the movie were dope. It runs long at 2+ hours. Movie needed more Harris & Bellucci T&A, as well as additional scenes with Bautista & Waltz respectively. Funk rating - 7.25 / 10.
