I never liked Volume 2 for this exact reason. On Reasonable Doubt and Vol.1 Jay-Z was "big willie". Cristal raps, suits and gangster hats, and serving "from 4 fiends away". Then on Vol.2 he followed the Ruff Ryders craze started rocking sports jerseys, rappin bout bein on the block wit the mac, and "ride or die" shit. I was like wtf happened this dude while everyone else and white folks made that shit like 5x plat. 
There's a reason why he hasn't released an album in a while. There isn't a wave he can jump on. And with drake only releasing singles every 3 months, he doesn't have enough juice to just drop an album and go on tour.

Jay's business sense always prefaced his music, and this was no different. You'd have to be a chump to NOT wanna step into that void once Big passed. The top seat is up for grabs and the hustle was gonna seperate the weak from the obsolete, so I don't blame Jay one bit.

Hov ain't dropped a album because he damn near 50 and his bread is really right. Everyone in the game was rocking sports jerseys that wont a style he stole. They were all cool back then X and Hov stayed shoutin Irv out on them mixtapes. Irv just talkn shit cause he was there and thats what niggas do. Hov the last one standing from a golden era like him or not you gotta respect it. Mic Geronimo was a good artist he didn't have that I'm that guy energy and couldn't find his lane.
You know i'm gonna keep it 100 man I can only speak from my perspective and being from the South....I didn't even know of Jay's affiliation with BIG until later on down the road. Like I always heard the Big Daddy Kane and the JAZ O co-signs and I had heard Jay shout out BIG and BIG do the same but it wasn't like them dudes were all up in videos dropping 16's. And I don't know how he road DMX's success. They both got hot around the same time.
