Tracy Morgan as Redd Foxx?

THR is reporting that Tracy Morgan is in final negotiations to step into some mighty big shoes for the upcoming Richard Pryor biopic.

Morgan would play legendary, groundbreaking comedian Redd Foxx. He will be joining an already incredible cast that includes Eddie Murphy as Pryor's father, Taraji P. Henson as his mother, Oprah Winfrey as Pryor's brothel-running grandmother, Mike Epps as Pryor himself and Kate Hudson as Pryor's wife.

This one could be something special. Pryor's life reads like the kind of story you'd find in a Pulizter Prize winning book. It's both uplifting and dour as shit. But his crazy, sometimes awful childhood formed a man who made his own way, changed the industry and inspired at least two generations of comedians and will inspire many more.

Morgan as Foxx is perfect and I can't wait to see what he brings to the part.

"Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice! It will be an honor to portray an icon."

Tracy Morgan is in negotiations to play Redd Foxx in the Richard Pryor biopic that is set to be directed by Lee Daniels.

The 30 Rock actor will play the brash comedian that owned a local comedy club and gave Pryor his start by using him as his opening act. Foxx would go on to star in the hit TV sitcom, Sanford and Son.

“Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice!" said Morgan in a statement. "It will be an honor to portray an icon.”

Mike Epps is already set to play Pryor in the Weinstein Co. project, with Kate Hudson playing his wife, Jennifer. Taraji P. Henson and fellow SNL alum Eddie Murphy are starring as Pryor's parents.

Oprah Winfrey, who has previously worked with Daniels in The Butler, will star as Pryor's grandmother who raised him.

Morgan just returned to the Saturday Night Live stage as a host after being seriously injured in June 2014 in a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan's last feature film role was in the Chris Rock dramedy Top Five.

The actor will be featured in a supporting role in the upcoming New Line comedy Fist Fight that stars Ice Cube and Charlie Day, and has plans to launch a stand-up tour in February.

Morgan is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.

With Reynaldo Rey gone, Red Grant was the only logical choice. I hope Tracy lets go but holds it together.

take your time tracy

hell he doesnt have to work again anyway

There was an outrage around Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone since she was so much lighter than Ms. Simone, I wonder if there will be any outrage around this since Tracy is way darker than Redd Foxx:idea:
