MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Welcome HF we are entering the end of Summer slow down and in a few weeks
it will be the start of Oscar bait season

No doubt, fam'. That fall/winter stretch is always great for movies. Might be seeing Straight Outta Compton tomorrow evening. Got some fam' in town and trying to sell them on the 7:15pm Thursday show.

not impressed with what mainstream has had to offer over the last few months

been on the indie flex

A fisherman and a naive young man begin trafficking drugs up the Pacific coast of Colombia. As they tow a drug-filled torpedo, they are forced to navigate through the war-torn region and the growing tension between them.

loved this movie

good showing from a bunch of unknown actors

bleek but real

7,5/10

Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation

Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation and as usual in this role he is on top of his game.
Not only does Cruise go all out with his stunts again but this is coupled with a well crafted story by Director Christopher McQuarrie .
Tons,of suspense, action, and double crosses keeps the film interesting. He and his Impossible Mission Force
Luther (Ving Rhames), Benji (Simon Pegg), and Brandt (Jeremy Renner)
not only face off against an interesting Bond Like villain portrayed by Sean Harris, but also face a CIA chief portrayed by Alec Baldwin
who wants the IMF shut down due to the collateral damage they have caused around the world all this and throw in
Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a British spy who is as mysterious as she is beautiful

MIRN does lag in some areas and is about 10 minutes to long but action packed and interesting films like this are what blockbusters should be.

Scale of 1-10 a 9

Paper Towns

Good coming of age film, about facing life after High School, defining what true love and friendship is and learning to let go
The film lags in areas and feels a bit drawn out but excels when it focuses on it's main subjects

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

3 Headed Shark Attack

It was Karrueche Tran's beauty that made me stop and watch this below B level flick. Loaded with beyond Awful SFX and acting,i swear the casting agent
for this crap fest must have run into a few restaurants in L.A and screamed at any waiter or waitress standing around if they wanted a part

Scale of 1-10 a 1

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

You watched it sober, dude you aint know this was strictly

a smoke before you watch or dont watch at all flick...

Yes thanks for the reviews and updates everyone keep em coming
and Mrfreddygoodbud if i ever watch a Syfy channel flick again it will be with
a six pack of Corona extra

Hadn't heard of the movie until earlier this summer & then a bunch of contests were coming out for it with DVD/Blu-ray prizing.
its not bad...
underwhelming like Southpaw - but in Southpaws defense they respect the sweet science and Jake is acting his ass off

Just watched Dragon Ball Z Resurrection of F. Was into it then it just kinda fell off got boring. Climax was very underwhelming.

I need a good foreign horror film like Frontiers, Martyrs or High Tension.

OH well I know you saw the audition...

that shit was like la la la la la

YO WTF????

The End....

Won a copy of this one on blu-ray in mid-August and checked it out this weekend. We enjoyed it. Dark, suspenseful & well-acted. Doesn't run overly long either ... just under 1 hour, 40 mins. What works well within that running length is that the plot/story heightens in intensity really quickly ... shit picks up 20 - 25 mins in quite a bit ...

Thanks for the review of 71 HF always great when a small and short film makes an impression

The Perfect Guy

I praise this film for providing some original moments in a been there done that genre, for Michael Ealy's unflinching psycho
moments and Sanaa Lathan for being well....Sanaa Lathan
A nice little crowd pleaser

Thanks for the updates, JB & MFGB ^

JB - Yes ... one of those smaller films that had been on my radar. Worth checking out, and when you do keep the closed captioning/subtitles on so as not to miss some of the dialogue. The deserted streets really added to the film too (with people at home because of curfew, etc). Made some of the chase scenes even more intense.

Oh i use CC often sometimes i cant tell what american actors are saying ,sometimes they have a voice like a whisper

I hear you on that. Can't stand movies wherein people are low-talking and mumbling. End up cranking that shit up just to follow the damn story

especially the after sex talk in movies.I always say why the hell are you friggin whispering but i guess some actors with kids go into dont wake the kids were naked mode.

Black Mass

First rule when making a deal with the Devil....Dont!!!!!

Johnny Depp turns in one of his best big screen performances ever as Irish gangster Whitey Bulger in Black Mass.
It's an intimidating, unflinching and mesmerizing performance,Depp completely immerses himself in a role.
A great assortment of actors sharing the screen with Depp which include Joel Edgerton as FBI agent John Connolly who is one
of Bulger's boyhood friends, and persuades Bulger to inform on rival gang activities.Watching the film and gradually watching
Connolly fall under the spell of Bulger allowing him to run roughshod over the FBI and his life was fascinating.

Though not as much of Bulger's later life is covered as i would have liked the film has gravitas in so many other areas it definitely
makes up some for the aforementioned. They say that truth is stranger than fiction and Bulger's story and his half hearted allegiance with the FBI
will likely be told again and talked about forever

Cant wait to see this on DVD to check out the scenes that were cut at the last minute

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

Sleeping With Other People

Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie are equally great as a one night stand in college, but becoming great friends later in life
couple in Sleeping With Other People.A raunchier version of When Harry Met Sally with a lot of heart and truths about
dating. They both have frank talks about sex and relationships, and their chemistry is so great their friends and strangers wonder
why they're not a couple. The script does head for basic romantic comedy themes but it's the great perfomances and salty
script that kept me interested.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

Everest

Based on the fateful 1996 simultaneous expeditions up Mount Everest,Everest is visually stunning and quite moving at times
Bad decisions were made and strong storms that seemed to come from nowhere made this expedition harrowing and then some
Director Baltasar Kormákur puts us right on the mountain with the men and women making the journey for glory(?) or to feel a sense
of accomplishment(?)
The film does have a shallow one note feel to it towards the end but it definitely left me with the aforementioned questions as a i left
the theatre.

Ohh hell yes!!!!! This is Depp's best performance in years.

SICARIO

Sicario is right up there with other war on drug films like Traffic

Effectively displaying how it's an ugly war,and ugly tactics are used to try to get some drugs out of communities
and streets across the U.S
Sicario also displays the futility of the war on drugs, and the bleak hard truths of the WOD.

Benicio Del Toro as Alejandro is casually intense, unflinching and unnerving. Is he a C.I.A assassin?
a consultant? or is he working both sides? Del Toro plays him so well we are never really sure until the climax
of the film
As an FBI agent named Kate Emily Blunt gives one of her best big screen performances, its a great portrayal
of a person who wants to make a difference, she displays all the right amounts of ,toughness, vulnerability and
frustration.
Also giving a great performance is Josh Brolin as DEA official Matt, even more casual than Alejandro ,he's cocky
and mysterious but no less serious about the job at hand.

The action in Sicario is intense and the violence is not for the faint of heart, but its also a thrilling and highly suspenseful film, not scared to
show the merry go round feel of the drug war ,as the riders change, but the circle remains the same, this fact and outstanding
Direction by Denis Villeneuve, cinematography by Roger Deakins ,script by Taylor Sheridan and a great cast that includes
Daniel Kaluuya,Jeffrey Donovan,Maximiliano Hernández, and Jon Bernthal makes Sicario one of the best films of 2015

Everyone involved should receive award nominations and acclaim in the coming months

THE GREEN INFERNO

The_Green_Inferno_poster.jpg

Eli Roth's throwback to old-school movies like "Cannibal Feroux(sp)" and Make Them Die Slowly had sat on the shelf for a while..

A group of college students get stranded in the Amazon Rainforest and are picked off one by one by a native tribe(of which actual tribe members played extras)

Movie was ok..as expected there are some gory moments,so if you have a strong stomach dont watch this while eating(as i made the mistake of doing  )

Pops is pushing 70 in a few years. Caught some Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and House of Cards with him in recent years. He'll often say - "Put the captions on ... I can't hear shit!" - he'll also laugh and say shit like "I can't keep up with all these characters" (House of Cards) ... and "I don't care if any of the people live or die" (TWD). Hard to keep up with Cards with the huge gap between seasons.

Props on Sicario and The Green Inferno, JB & TBP.

Green Inferno looks like an exciting watch & good buzz already for Sicario. Caught the ad last night & added it to the To-See List.
