MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

The Judge - watched it yesterday and enjoyed it. Good performances from Duvall and Downey Jr. ... Duvall's been consistent for many decades, and nice to see RDJ in something other than Ironman/Avengers content which he's mostly been doing in recent years. Good overall cast in general (Thornton, Farmiga, D'Onofrio too).

That's wassup, JB! Good to see Downey Jr. clean up his life the past decade plus. He could very easily have been another statistic in showbiz, or an E True Hollywood-type tragedy. As for Duvall ... that cat's put in work for decades. Cat turned 84yo in January, and has 50+ years in the biz! Shit ... I lost my own grandparents at 81 and 83yo and they suffered in their final years, and never met my other grandparents as they were gone long before I was born.

A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.

you have to watch this movie

Ted 2

Definitely not as funny as the first Ted,but Seth Mcfarlane provides enough sight gags, pop culture references and salty
humor to keep the film moving for the most part. The aforementioned is a good and bad thing as some jokes and
gags go on far to long in the flicks almost 2 hour running time.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys wasnt a complete misfire for me,it offers solid SFX,action sequences ,some cool nods to previous
Terminator films and the man himself Arnold Schwarzenegger. Jai Courtney is serviceable in his role as Kyle Reese and
Emilia Clarke was more likeable in her role as Sarah Connor
When the film enters its second hour i started to pick it apart in my mind questioning the actions of the characters and their
placement at key points in the film. Most of it didnt add up leading to jumbled outcomes.
Even the mid credits scene didnt mean much to me
I found it better than the last 2 Terminator films though

yeah "The skin I live in" was a really interesting flick, might have to watch that again

Damn it's been awhile since I posted in here..

Best movies I've recently seen.

DopeTeaserPoster.jpg

Been Looking forward to seeing this indie flick for a while, finally got a chance to check it out at the theatre this past weekend and really enjoyed it, definatly one of my favourite flicks of the past couple years.

It's a coming of age story about a young brotha growing up South central as a 90's obsessed nerd who is the lead singer of a punk band "Awreoh" with his two other nerdy friends, they're social outcasts in their neighborhood so have to deal with getting harrassed by the local gangs and drug dealers. One day the main character gets invited to local drug dealer Dom (played by ASAP Rocky...who actually gave a pretty good performance) Party and all sorts of mayhem ensues..

Movie was very well shot, had great cinematography, pacing, acting, featuring Zoe Kravitz, Chanel Iman, ASAP rocky, Vince Staples, a kid that we thought looked exactly like Al B sure! and later found out is actually his son..

Rating 8.5/10

While We're Young

whilewereyoung.poster.jpg

Wifey and I enjoyed this flick about a couple in their mid 40's (Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts) who feel like they can't relate to all of their friends having babies and their worlds which only revolve around that fact. As a result they encounter a young hipster couple (amanda Seyfried and Adam Driver) who make them feel alive, bring them out of their comfort zone and discover new things..But there's a side to them that they don't see and eventually find out..
also funny seeing Ad rock from the Beastie Boys as one of their best friends.

8/10

^^^^^^^Big time crush on her as a kid .She made a film in which she posed for PLayboy,my pants couldnt get around my ankles fast enough watching that movie.

Right on re: Dope and While We're Young.

Plenty of good reviews out there for Dope, and plenty of contest promotions to win a copy of While We're Young.

Ant-Man

I really didnt think Ant-Man would work as a stand alone movie. The Hank Pym/Ant-Man had already been excluded from the Ultron story in Avengers: Age
of Ultron,of which he was a major part of in the comics, but i was pleasantly surprised by Ant-Man .Praise to Paul Rudd and his ability to change
gears from comedic to serious, and getting me invested in his character Scott Lang.Michael Douglas is better than ever as his mentor Hank Pym.
Evangeline Lily's presence and beauty are always welcome.Michael Peña was hilarious, and Corey Stoll adds just the right amount of uncaring menace
as the film's villain.
Praise to the writers and Director Peyton Reed for doing their homework on the character with nice little comic book touches throughout the film
Also high praise for connecting Ant-Man to the MCU past and present. The 3D was flawless and the action sequences were fun.
There are a few predictable moments and there are a couple of characters that i found to be obnoxious but what a nice surprise and fun chapter in
MCU

PIXELS

Not the complete disaster some critics are saying it is,I actually found some of it entertaining.About 40% of the jokes work and I did enjoy the action sequences.Adam Sandler mainly sleepwalks through the film, there's a forced romance(I swear I didn't even realize Michelle Monaghan was in this until she started doing press for the film last week)
Some of Josh Gads screaming fits and I mean some were funny.Peter Dinklage did his best he could, had some fun moments with 2 popular female celebs that make cameos.Kevin James was well......Kevin James .Some scenes are very grating and went on far to long. Wait for it to hit cable

Scald of 1 to 10 a 5

ill say this,it was crazy how they got Hall & Oates and Max Headroom involved(in the latter's case they got Matt Frewer back to record new dialog)

Not your traditional scary movie.
More along the lines of The Omen, and The Exorcist.
Great story with a surprising twist.
The little kid gives a great performance.
I'd give it an 8 of out 10

I appreciate the reviews. But one thing I gotta say about the reviewers and their grades is that ya'll some pretty generous folks.

Most of these movies except for a few don't deserved a 6+.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:ROGUE NATION

Mission-Impossible-Rogue-Nation2.jpg

does Tom be getting stunt pay for his action scenes? if not,he should

Good story, though i kind of dont see where they could go with MI:6(which is now in very early pre-production..) that motorcycle chase was crazy, anyone know what kind of bikes those were?

the bit with the water tank even had me and a few people in the audience like :scared: then there was the plane stunt..Simon Pegg said in a interview that Tom had to change clothes after shooting cause he pissed his pants :roflmao2: probably didnt happen though who knows

Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation

Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation and as usual in this role he is on top of his game.
Not only does Cruise go all out with his stunts again but this is coupled with a well crafted story by Director Christopher McQuarrie .
Tons,of suspense, action, and double crosses keeps the film interesting. He and his Impossible Mission Force
Luther (Ving Rhames), Benji (Simon Pegg), and Brandt (Jeremy Renner)
not only face off against an interesting Bond Like villain portrayed by Sean Harris, but also face a CIA chief portrayed by Alec Baldwin
who wants the IMF shut down due to the collateral damage they have caused around the world all this and throw in
Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a British spy who is as mysterious as she is beautiful

MIRN does lag in some areas and is about 10 minutes to long but action packed and interesting films like this are what blockbusters should be.

Scale of 1-10 a 9

Paper Towns

Good coming of age film, about facing life after High School, defining what true love and friendship is and learning to let go
The film lags in areas and feels a bit drawn out but excels when it focuses on it's main subjects

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

3 Headed Shark Attack

It was Karrueche Tran's beauty that made me stop and watch this below B level flick. Loaded with beyond Awful SFX and acting,i swear the casting agent
for this crap fest must have run into a few restaurants in L.A and screamed at any waiter or waitress standing around if they wanted a part

Scale of 1-10 a 1

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

Havent watched DBZ in awhile but my son and i enjoyed it,the crowd at the theatre (every seat was filled) was beyond hyped up and cheering

Fantastic Four aka FANT4STIC

Watching Fantastic Four or FANT4STIC play out on the big screen it wasnt hard for me to believe at least half of the
rumors about the major malfunctions on the set of this film were true.

Its not the horrific nightmare some critics have made it out to be.I actually liked the first half and development of the characters.
The actors Miles Teller , Michael B. Jordan, along with Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell whom i admire and have enjoyed their
work elsewhere do a great job in the first half.
Then everything goes flatter than a 3 day mug of beer The script, the SFX ( i swear i laughed out loud at how cheap and cheesie
some of it looked like) everything!!
Whats so frustrating is that i could see if they had made only a few alterations to the script it would have been a much better film.
This film has one of the most anti climatic and grating conclusions i have ever seen
I really dont get how a studio has the rights to such a wealth of stories and doesnt use them.Dr.Doom is one of the most interesting
villains in comics, here he is reduced to an odd looking Terminator, mixed with the robot from Millenium (yeah look that movie up and
watch the whole thing ,i dare you!!)
All i can say is watch the first half of this film, when it hits DVD,then go online or buy some old FF comics and read them

The Gift

How much can a rumor or lie change a persons whole life? How much do we really know about the person that we love and share a bed with?
First time director Joel Edgerton takes these questions and develops a suspenseful thriller titled The Gift from them.
The film has some been there done that "the stalker who came to dinner' themes, but Edgerton provides enough twists and turns that pulled me and the audience in.
Well acted by all 3 leads which include:Edgerton , Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall.
Go check it out !!

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

Trainwreck

Very funny ,raunchy, charming with some heart. The cast does such a great job including Lebron James and wrestler
John Cena.Somewhat predictable at times but i really enjoyed it.

hell yeah so far its made 12 million and cost 5 mil to make

I like the marketing/advertising approach they've taken. Good number of advance screening and ROE pass contests out there of late. Not bombarding the TV viewer with constant ads for it. Just the occasional ones. Good early buzz from people who've seen it. More studios should take note.

Straight Outta Compton

There have been plenty of documentaries about the group N.W.A over the years and fans like myself fell they know their story from top
to bottom, but the film Straight Outta Compton is like hearing and watching the story anew.

In fact the film is so good i forgot i was watching actors portray the rap icons that made up the iconic group N.W.A Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) Ice Cube
(O’Shea Jackson Jr.) Neil Brown Jr. as DJ Yella and Aldis Hodge as MC Ren) are all excellent in their roles. Paul Giamatti is excellent as the groups manager, Jerry Heller

There is so much story to tell and you can see Director F. Gary Gray's love for the group and the time period as he attempts to put as much as he can
on the big screen in the film's 2 hour plus running time, even though some of the groups story is omitted.

Im glad a sequel is already in the works.

Hitman: Agent 47

This is one of those movies i watch even though it gets beyond bad reviews,i say to myself well at least the action sequences will
be good.Well i soon lost all hope in that because for the most part the action is choppy and you can actually see the stunt man and doubles
in the aforementioned scenes.I wonder why actors who have something going for themselves do films like this.A contract they cant get out of?
a quick check to buy another mansion?
But i guess there is an audience for bad movies like this because the 2 guys sitting near me were hooting and hollering as if they were watching the first
Matrix film.
