Jay Electronica signs to Jay-Z's Roc Nation

Good for him. Dude is too good to be under the radar like he is.

Co-signing everything largebills is saying. Just like you can name talent that didn't prosper under Jay-Z, you can name others that did, whether at Roc-a-Fella or Def Jam. If J.E. puts in the work, he'll be fine.

From some of Just Blaze's comments I'm not sure that's going to happen. He's not handling the pressure of Exhibit C well and seems content on touring off that and his mixtape songs.

The lane and how dudes have pegged him in a certain space will be interesting.

Whats Just Blaze saying?

"I say this with all the brotherly love in the world in regards to him; you have to remember this guy was literally homeless when I met him," Just Blaze explained. "It takes some adjusting to go from sleeping on a train to having the hottest record of the year. He was always used to operating on his own schedule, and all of a sudden you have a responsibility to fans, media and to your friends and the people who have been there for you. It messes with your head, and everyone has to handle it differently."

That's not the problem, it's the pressure of creating a "classic" album, when everyone expects Exhibit C every time you create a record.

The people around him has nothing to do it.

Signing with a label might help, because it will involve deadlines and expectations or it could just be new pressure.

A lot of dudes don't understand that a lot of times it's not the labels fault, it's the artist.

dude needs to tune out all the music being made today,
and submerge himself in listening to every classic hip hop album from the past 25 years.
if he and JB does this, the subconscious influence will bring them made a masterpiece.

having good people around you help to guide and influence decisions. they are the people you can bounce ideas off without having to wonder if they have some bs agenda. they are the people that can help keep his head together if this shit is getting to be too overwhelming for him.

This dudes never gonna finish an album, cuz he'll be trying to make it with them sleepy ass beats, and just Blaze will be trying to finish the polish he started with exhibit C.

He will fall out with Just, call them all illuminati, bitch and moan about shit worse than Saigon ever did- then release something that will make you all realize that he's just not that good (shoulda already noticed) then everyone will blame Jay Z.

Voilà.

You don't want it to happen but it looks like it's heading in that direction, based on JB's comments. Hopefully he'll avoid the same pitfalls a lot of "cant-misses" have and at least get out an album.

funny how jay signs rocnation artists to those slave 360 deals but he was on the warren buffet interview talking about how fucked up those deals are until he caught himself and remembered that he's putting artists in those deals himself.

instead of looking at the potential negatives imma just be happy that a real ass mc caught any big deal in 2010. that in itself is rare.

hopefully it'll inspire young cats to be themselves and stay on that official shit instead of putting out nursery rhymes and selling ringtones. there is a little light at the end of the tunnel.

:yes::smh:

meh...
clearly J elec goes way over peoples heads,I dont see his album on roc nation being anywhere near what he typicaly rhymes about...like "that black elohim annunaki rap"

why sign him then, knowing his style.

shout out to jay elec, getting his 1st deal @ 34yrs old!

roc nation also has that chick who sings, fiona something.

And that's what will happen, because we all know if it snows in November, it's Jay-Z's fault

Jay Elec is bi-polar just like Saigon and Joe Budden.

All of his label mates are talking about the simple minded shit he seems to be against.

interesting

J Cole talks about simple minded shit
Wale is Roc Nation management, and he talks about simple minded shit

They still can't write for him or get in the booth. It's still his creative process and that doesn't help writers block.

i knew that dude was old as shit.
but he just started rappin not too long ago right?
theres somethin very crackheadish about him to me.

im just talking about from a support point of view. if the dude is in his 30's living on the street in a city where apartments are going for $300, he may have some issues. going from that to the "next to blow" in the hiphop world is probably driving him insane. he needs a support structure aside from roc related folks working on his project.

I never understood what happens to artist when they get big breaks. If you could go from being broke to some how get studio time/beats and write dope enough music to get the buzz.... what the fuck happens that all of a sudden when you are more comfortable that stops you from your grind? Common Sense would lead me to believe that you would have so much material that you could drop 10 albums based off your first year in the game.

its life changing and like just blaze said, people deal with pressure differently.

Pressure is being broke/homeless trying to make the music thing happen when I can bet everyone is telling you that you're crazy. Getting the chance to live a dream by doing the same shit that you been doing seems easy. IMO

Aww shit...its goin down...you gotta give it up to Jay(z)..the boy stay winning

I think he started around 2004 when he moved to Detroit were he met j dilla and porter from d12. he got big around 07 with act 1 and some world (mainstream) attention with the song on nas' album in mid 08. so he been around for a while i guess.

i just want to see the full vid for dear moleskine and for him to release act 2 and im good. but we'll probably see that shiny suit theory song with jay-z soon, then one more song around xmas. then nothing for some time.. and his "buzz" will die again.

Okay. So you've got Jay-E, J.Cole, and one of the best to have ever done it (Jay-Z). Get beats from Pre-808 Heartbreak Kanye, Primo, Just Blaze, and make some new classics.

I'd love to see Jay drop a mix tape with he and his talent.

he cold:yes:
but his album is gonna be
8ft_sahara_black_gondola.jpg

fuckin with Jay-Z:smh:
jay never puts nobody out, he signs them then its a dead end from there:smh:
j.cole better smarten up and dip while he not lookin
fa real tho:hmm:

yea but you arent looking at the other side of what pressure is.

So now you are on. You are instantly considered a breadwinner to fam even if you havent seen a dollar yet. He's been doing shows but now family/ friends are looking to you to provide a better life or at least help them out. Maybe you slept on their couch for a few months. Maybe they were there for you. Now they have a hand out. Who do you look out for? Who has your best interest in mind and who is just on for the ride? None of these people were calling a year ago? Meetings, deadlines, fans want new music but you arent feeling that creative right now. People pitching all typa deals, shows, whores. Not sure if son is still fucking with Badu. I can see it all being alot of pressure for a cat that was "sleeping on the train" not too long ago. Thats why I said I hope he has some good people around him.

any man way homeless doesnt have good people around him.

good shit
if they work hard they'll have albums
get in there knock out the songs do the features and grind.
Sigel had how many albums?
Bleek had how many?
Its possible
if u work hard you'll be sigel
if u want everything handed you'll be peedi

the game is still the same in the sense that if you work hard and push your own self and get a buzz and have a hot album you will come out cause they won't be able to keep you on the shelf.
That just goes for most labels...not just jay specifically
if these dudes continue to do what they have been and make it undeniable then they'll come out. If they sit back and expect everything to be handed and because they're on the label the label will do everything then they're out of luck

j cole acts like he wants to come out...and i bet he does.

strong bump
