Ronald Moon, Jr. Got Beaten Up For Trying To Make A Community Center In His Cincinnati Neighborhood, But The Internet Rallies To His Support
Ronald Moon, Jr. wanted to do something positive for his Cincinnati neighborhood by turning an old family home into a community center, but instead the house kept getting burglarized.
This week Moon happened upon the people responsible for breaking into the 1853 Kinney Avenue Community Center, three men and two women who beat him so badly he was left bloodied and bruised.
Frustrated, Moon decided to make a video to vent his frustrations and talk about his desire to simply do something positive for the neighborhood.
But Moon decided to do something else. He also started a GoFundMe page to help build the community center.
The internet has heard his cry and the uplifting story went viral. Within hours of being posted to YouTube the video went viral, racking up tens of thousands of views. It was also posted to Reddit, where thousands more upvoted and commented.
The GoFundMe campaign has also blown up. In just six hours, it has raised more than $15,000, with the total increasing by thousands of dollars each hour.
On the page, Ronald Moon, Jr. wrote about his dreams for the center, which is in an impoverished area of the city.
“The goal I have is to offer this place as a space where ideas, skills, and resources can be shared among this neighborhood and with surrounding neighborhoods in Cincinnati.

– poetry and creative writing
– yoga and meditation
– dance
– craft and jewelry making
– carpentry
– tailoring
– gardening
– plumbing
– recording and music engineering
– cultural education
– computing
*If someone can teach it and another can learn it, it is precisely what this place would be interested in housing.”
Moon went on to explain that he left his job two months ago to dedicate himself to the 1853 Kinney Avenue Community Center, but “foolishly struggled to seriously ask for help.”
But now that he has asked for help, Moon has found thousands of people willing to pitch in, including people across the globe.
Some even offered help beyond money, including one person who offered more than just cash.
“Hey there, I see you’d like to teach music engineering and computing. If you need some live one on one or group support, I’m available. I’ll gladly help by giving classes live or by recording videos. If you are interested in getting together feel free to reach out. This is important for everyone. I can’t wait to see how far you’ll go.”
Ronald Moon, Jr. said he would ultimately like to turn the 1853 Kinney Avenue Community Center into its own 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It seems he certainly has the funding for that now.

I was just getting ready to post this off of Facebook. When you try to help your people this is what you get....I applaud that young man for at least trying but these animals born of whore mothers don't give a shit. It's an uphill battle.
Here's the house he was trying to build up for the center.
I really think this sort of thing should ONLY be done on commercial property though in an open space. Tucked into a small neighborhood like this is bound to be trouble.

I believe what this brother represent and articulates in his person is something not all Black people understand or can relate to and that is an unquestionable and unapologetic love for Black people. This love pulls at you everyday it is as if you are compelled by this love to act and behave and all that you seek to do is because of your love for Black people. I recall when brother Randall Robinson wrote his book Quiting America and was promoting it, during an interview he said to love black people is to immerse yourself in a work that can be un-redeeming because the very people you working for will not appreciate you or the work you do but you still do it because you love them in ways that many of them will never understand.
For some of you I guess the only way you can relate is to take the love you have for a family member (wife, child, sibling or parent) and externalize it to black people this is the love that drives this brother and so many of us that have and continue to work on behalf of our people when everything about the work and the response from some of our people say we should quit. What this brother just experienced is akin to the trauma that those whom protested nonviolently experience by way of dog bites, water hoses, batons and the like except it was black people whom inflicted the trauma when he confronted them about their self hatred. I hope this brother keep up his work and truthfully I have no doubts he will because the love he have for our people will not allow for him to quit and believe it or not after having hundreds of conversations with black men and women whom work on behalf of our people some of you would be surprised how burdensome this love can be and how so many wish they could give it up but can't and ultimately it kills many us and we can only hope the work we did was worth it.
