Could the ancient West African psychedelic Ibogaine be a true cure for addiction?

there was another Documentary on this there is also a place in Mexico where addicts go to get clean permanently. US wont sanction it. the only war on Drugs policy is to hire more Police,prosecutors, Judges and jails not to rehab victims.
 
The indigenous folks of this continent cured addiction with a weekend trip to a sweat lodge and peyote.

From what I am reading, just like DMT scientist are forbidden to even test to see if it works... Many people are forced to go to Canada where its legal to get treated..
 
Plus I heard it helps with psychological problems including rape victims, criminals and prostitutes..
