It's already been buggin the shit out of me that Faux is profiting from the 14 Million viewers Empire has drawn so far but then they sit up and talk shit about Hip-Hop with black people leading the charge!

This is what Faux viewers see when they look at Empire while they laugh all the way to the bank. Same racist shit, just updated. As long as they are making a few black people rich they feel justified in destroying the image of black people world wide.

Sing and dance Ni@@a and be happy I put yo ass on TV!!

what hip hop has become is very damaging. It still isn't as damaging as racism largely because it is racism that transformed hip hop in to where it is now.in its purest form it was poetry over musical beats and rhythm, but the proliferation of negative aspects - the killing, bragging about the thug gangster and gang banger life which glorified it in the eyes of the ignorant youth was extremely damaging because it gave them A glamorous and phony look on a dangerous life but they should not even consider going into. Many of them do and end up in the system forever lost, others that don't end up affected by those who were drawn to the cubic zirconium which is the thug life

there is nothing cool about the thug life and those who enter it often realize far too late that there is no retirement plan to the drug game, or the gang life. You either die or go to jail.

I find Empire entertaining and I watched six episodes last night. I am different, because for me it is purely entertainment. There's nothing to it. There is only what's in front of me. It isn't something that I aspire to obtain. It is a soap opera, and not real life. To call it a minstrel show is extreme to say the least. the minstrel shows are the reality TV show. This is not even close to being on that level.

In my opinion all this rage towards Empire should be solely directed at the music industry and the people that control it. Not a TV show based off that industry. I really don't feel Empire itself is all that deep of an influence, negative or otherwise.

^^^ invest. The music business has been fucked up and fucking people over damn near since its inception.this doesn't even come close to explaining how the business has done people wrong, stealing, financially raping, the bullshit casting couch, and be complete filling of your soul and beliefs for success.

Sometimes I think some y'all come with BS just to stir shit on the board.. I don't believe y'all actually believe the shit you post...

Yep

The industry is the issue here if you want to be mad about something

If it ain't a movie or show about the civil rights movement people will have a problem with it....

Yep niggas complain about everything

Even if it was about that, people would have a problem.

True that

Nothin is good enough

I remember when Rapper's Delight broke and been watching the decline in Hip Hop ever since. This shit they're pumping out now is straight trash. It's also killing R&B, how many new Black R&B artist have you seen blow up in say the lat 5 years vs. bad rapper's? Yeah we got plenty of bad rappers to choose from and very few true vocalist that are actual musicians.

They have succeeded in getting real R&B out of the mainstream :smh:

hip hops influence on r&b fucked the whole game up, its crazy to think that yrs ago marvin gaye, al green, bill withers was considered r&b and now you cant differentiate r&b singers and rappers

My real issue is with Fox! They blast black folks every second of everyday starting with Pres Obama. Then they profit off of us promoting the very thing they blast us about everyday. Not complaining just pointing out the obvious that most, judging from the responses, apparently arn't seeing.

Few Things.

1. I don't watch Empire, don't have too, cuz everyone else will tell you about it anyway. I just don't watch shit like this anymore once I reached the age of reason.

2. The only all black show to be on fox since Martin, is about Drugs, the music industry, and Gay discrimination.

3. Fox has spent millions of dollars to advertise empire. More money than any of its other shows, which makes me question their motives behind this.

4. The gay character by design is not only the most talented, but the only one not conniving.

5. Tariji like I said before on this board has an acting range to rival most black women in hollywood, but she seem to feel waaaay to comfortable being ratchet. Like she seeks out these type of rolls. :smh:

6. We are truly an under fed community because Empire is just not that impressive to me. Let people tell it, its the breaking bad or mad men with black people with the essence of a season long hiphop day on glee.

C/S:cool:

It's actually a very entertaining show. I wish it had more authentic Hip Hop music on the show, but entertaining. It's like a soap opera. I understand why it's popular. You can relate to most of the characters. There's a prelude story going on where they go back to the hustler days that financed the "Empire". Just like a lot of our fav rappers did. Same slang, same attitude that a lot of Black people can relate to. Boyz n the hood goes to hollywood type shit. But they still Hood. Empire is an upgrade from all these fake reality shows thats been dominating the air waves for the past 10yrs or so. There's not many Black shows on TV that I tune into every week. Empire has that 90's vibe but wit the new school music. I'm a fan of the show!
http://www.hulu.com/empire

I understand where yall coming from as the images are concerned but the white characters on the show are more scandalous.

then you really can't speak on the quality of the show from experience can you so your opinion is based on hearsay..the best informed opinion there is isn't it:rolleyes:

maybe after this one more shows will be green lit. Also do you think this show reflects you or makes people think if you as some homo/criminal??

could it be that lee daniels is a hot oscar nominated director...that after the first episodes it was seen to be a hit so the network is doing a full court press on their highest rated show on the network??

4. The gay character by design is not only the most talented, but the only one not conniving.
considering that character is based on daniels himself its no wonder he's not as cut throat as the other characters.

5. Tariji like I said before on this board has an acting range to rival most black women in hollywood, but she seem to feel waaaay to comfortable being ratchet. Like she seeks out these type of rolls. :smh:
yeah lets forget she played a cop for 4 seasons on Person Of Interest

how would you know youve never seen it??:hmm:

"I dont watch the show" --- Is very different from "I never seen it"

it already has a ripple effect, more hiphop gansta bullshit is in the works for a few networks, so congrats more bullshit.

like i said aint hard to get rating when you put millions in advertising behind it.

And person of interest is just one of the roles i was referring to sir in my judgement of her acting range. I can also name Benjamin button and No good deed. My point is she prefers ratchet. She said she asked to be killed off on person of interest then does this which further proves my point.

This is a very astute post ... Well done

I think you're taking your hate towards everything about this show a bit far. Maybe she saw a huge numbers for this show and it could be bigger than POI and it had a cast she gets along with better...? You don't know, at all.

lets put that to the test and highlight all the ratchet roles she's played in her film body of work and tv body of work and see if thats true or youre just nitpicking those roles to make a biased point??

I haven't seen all her movies so others can clarify the ??

but so far out of 40+ roles in film and tv she's played "ratchet" maybe 4-5 times... lets say 6 just to be safe..

6 out of 40 does that seem like someone who PREFERS those kinds of roles??:hmm:

this is what I'm talking about when I say blacks hold ourselves to these ridiculous standards and criteria..

It makes me conflicted. I like to see my people working. But then I dont like to see them working and praising shit like this. :smh:

I haven't watched any where close to a full ep, I'm just not into a lot of shows, esp dramas. But I'm sure if the rap industry was different, this show would be. So I just feel all this negative energy should be more focused on the images rap has put out there more so than this show focused on the industry. I just view Empire as a show that solely represents the music industry and those involved in it, and the industry is full of clowns.

I haven't seen all 15 of those roles but I did see family that preys and she was NOT ratchet..sh eplayed the wife of tyler perrys character IIRC you just hate TP so you added that one:rolleyes: so 14 roles

And laff at my pain..:hmm: seriously dude...you saw that flick and thought what she did was shame and bad role model??? seriously..13 roles

Madagascar..youre counting a cartoon character..seriously
latest

this was a ratchet character that hurt her career in your eyes??:hmm: 12 roles

the bottom line is that woman has clearly played more positive roles than negative yet all you can judge her by is the negative.:smh::smh::smh:
