Tests Wednesday morning confirmed the Cleveland Cavaliers' fears that center Anderson Varejao has suffered a tear of his Achilles tendon, sources told ESPN.com.

Anderson Varejao was hurt in the Cavs' win Tuesday over the Wolves. The Achilles injury likely will end the big man's season.
Varejao landed awkwardly in the third quarter of Tuesday's 125-104 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves and left the floor without being able to put weight on the leg. He had an MRI on Wednesday morning.

The injury will likely end Varejao's season. With this news, it is believed the Cavs will intensify their monthslong efforts to trade for a big man. The team has been seeking additional help for its front line going back to the summer, having specifically targeted Timofey Mozgov of the Denver Nuggets and Kosta Koufos of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Sources say the Cavs, in recent days, have been in contact with the Boston Celtics about working as a facilitator in three-team trade scenarios. The Celtics, blessed with frontcourt depth in the wake of their recent acquisition of Brandan Wright in the Rajon Rondo deal, have been aggressive recently in their attempts to acquire future draft picks.

The Cavs cannot trade their own 2015 first-round pick because they already sent their 2016 pick to the Celtics in a previous deal. But they do own a protected Memphis first-rounder that they could trade.

The Cavs also possess a $5.2 million trade exception to use in a potential deal, which is one of the reasons they sought Mozgov and Koufos, as both of their contracts could fit into that exception. The Cavs signed Varejao, who has missed 166 games with various injuries over the past four seasons, to a three-year, $30 million extension in October. He had been having a good offensive season as LeBron James' favorite pick-and-roll partner, shooting 55 percent from the field and averaging 10 points and 6.6 rebounds.

Tristan Thompson likely will step into the starting role for Varejao as he recovers. The injury also could mean additional playing time for reserves Lou Amundson and Brendan Haywood.

Yea that's why some think they're going to go after AK or Josh Smith hard

that mofo stays hurt

every year he has a season ending injury

His contract is bad for what he provides, but GM Lebron likes him

They'll be fine with Thompson

Maybe they will play Brendan some

Andy's been very solid this year..

I read a article a few days ago, say that they fear the injury was worse than the initial report...

He's solid every year, but he doesn't stay healthy

Yeah, because it was a noncontact injury

I think this can actually be a good thing for the Cavs in the long run, the reason why I say, is because after watching them this season, there be games where they look good but then something just seems off..
Last night game was a perfect example of this, LeBron was solid, Love was good, Waiters came to play, Kyre was doing his thing, yet for most of the game the game was tight...
Then Varejao goes out and the game becomes a blow out... Now if you are just looking at the stats you'd think whats the big deal Thompson and Andy numbers are similar and Varejao only played 17 mins..
But go back to the stats and you'd see one stat that fully backs what I am about to say, in the +/- dif Andy was -6 while Thompson was +25.. I know sometimes the +/- can be deceiving but this time the numbers fully back what I saw with my own eyes...
Andy's problem is that he is way too active, and for some, like myself, at first, you can easily be tricked into thinking its hustle and to his credit he does hustle his ass off.. The problem with his hustle is that he needs to stop playing harder and start playing smart..
With his constant hustle, he is always giving the team false positives especially when he cuts to the hoop.. What often happens is that he is fed the ball, but it often gets fumbled or knocked out his hands for a turnover..
Whats fucked up, is that these types of turn over doesn't go on his stat sheet so to the untrained eye, everyone else is fucking up not him..
With Thompson the offense seems to run smoother, and less helterskelter, resulting in fewer turnovers..
Also Andy runs around in the same shooting zone as Love (mid rage post), and its difficult getting reads on Love by himself, much less with a jumping jack bouncing all over the court, Thompson does not have to be force fed the ball, and has a way of cleaning up messes while attacking the back door of the rim as soon as the defense begins to cheat..
Thompson is a much better match for Love, because his range is in the paint, allowing Love to have those midrange post ups and the outside shots..
The only thing that may be a problem with Andy going down, is now Haywood would have to get some more mins and/or they will be forced to make a trade..
In my opinion I think Haywood can be a productive sub coming off the bench while Thompson mins are stepped up..

He always out for the year with some sort of injury

Playing like that, not only gets you injured, but you can fuck up the people around you also.
I blame a lot of these guards injuries on them playing hype, but they don't have shit on Varejao.....

Rage stays on some real analytical flow! Dudes give him a hard time, but between him and Killa, they stay dropping science on the Brothers...

I heard this. Sucks, damn. Andy is hustle man. Does the dirty stuff. A couple of scoops more talent and hops and he'd be our Rodman (not saying he is as good as Rodman)
