yooooo the audience @ 16:10 was mesmerized esp. the chic in the black coat...sad to say even tho I've always been familiar w/ james brown music...it wasn't until I watched get on up that I developed a real appreciation for how much of a musical genius this man was #supremetalent

Well....

In all fairness, they tried to make it seem like they were on the same stage performing for the same crowd but in reality everyone who performed that day had a different audience. So those the screaming teenage girls that saw James didn't see the Rolling Stones. They talked about this in that HBO special Mr. Dynamite.

James did have the best performance though

On Bootsy Collins album,Funk Capital...there is a cut called JB,still the man.

Rev.Al opens it,and says...there are 4 B's in music.

Bach,Brahms,Beethoven and Brown...

JB's effect on music changed everything...from the way we dance,to the way we nod our heads.

James changed the entire beat...

man that was the best night of Paul's life. Peep how he was over there looking trying to see what notes James was playing to get that funk out.... Paul was playing it but James came and put the funk on the song that paul just couldn't do

I actually had the pleasure of watching James Brown live several times at the Royal Theater in Baltimore. He came in to appear for a week and tore the house down two to three shows a day, including matinees. It cost $1.25 which was higher than the Motown Review which was a buck. He had a presence in Baltimore because he owned a radio station and a motor lodge (hotel). He also married a popular cute girl who went to all the parties, but was known to hold her pussy close. We use to play "Live at the Apollo" at parties and try to mimic the cape throwing act. Nobody followed James Brown.
