Got a phone call yesterday from some folks claiming to be a collection agency, their number they originally called from was 404-424-4402 and they said that I was about to be served with a lawsuit, and to find out information about it dial, 844-839-7972..
When I called the 2nd number it was some chick who claimed I had a past account from verizon that defaulted back in 2003 when I was living at some other place.. She said the bill was originally 200 bucks but with interest and court cost I owed 4,000. But if I paid today all I would owe was 500.. The sounded very professional and their shit was tight, even had my SS# and my old apartment address. But you know me I don't believe in shit with out investigating, so I said I'd call them back, I immediatly google the two numbers and got nothing but scams back..
Folks if yall get a similar phone call don't give them shit, take down the number, google it and report it if it comes back funny....

Man I stay blocking numbers. There are so many scams it's retarded

Had to block someone again this evening. You don't even want to hear the foul shit I tell those East Indians from Canadian Pharmacy.

I had a similar scam call a couple of years ago, but it was concerning student loans. I knew it was a hustle, so I kept calling them back from a Google number. They eventually got pissed off, and some guy with a strong foreign accent got on the line saying "Fuck you" and "Fuck your mother" and "I'll kill you!". He was pissed!

great post fam.

I used to post these all the time...people act like they would never fall for these but it happens all the time.

Had family who worked collects back in day calling neighbors out and out lying.

things are LITTLE better now but you still can't be too careful.

people need to be more mindful because in this digital age ALL your info is out there.

got on the do not call registry

I even made sure to cut off junk mail too.

Some guy from a jersey number left a vile voice mail for me a couple years ago. He asked, "why did you lie to me playa? You said to call you back, and here I am callijg you back, and youre not picking up the mothafucking phone." He called me a lier, a bitch ass nword, and other things.

peace

Similar shit happened to me a few yrs back but with actual letters mailed to me by some 'company' out of Philly.
Got with Fam from the board who properly advised me how to deal with them in the form of my own thorough letter which covered all the basis including threats of legal action if continued.
No more bs letter problems :itsawrap:

Sounds like a collection agency using one of those apps to spoof their numbers.

If they call you again tell them to put everything in writing.

If you receive anything in writing from them send them a letter within 30 days for them to validate the debt and make sure you pay the extra to get a signature.

Odds are they won't respond with anything else, if they do it probably won't be anything more than an old invoice of your bill which is NOT enough to collect a debt on.

If the debt was in 2003 then the statue of limitations is up on the debt.

They might violate some consumer protection act laws which could result in you making $1000 every time you can prove they violated a rule.

when i answer the phone....and they ask me ..."Is this (first name, last name)"
i just hang up.....lol. or if they say they from a collection agency tryin to collect a debt.....i just hang up.
All my debts have been paid off since 2010....i dont owe anybody shit.
fuck around and give them mufuckas your credit card info if u want to

Unfortunately some company you trusted gave them the last 4 of your SS and your last home address or they looked it up. Timeshare and free vacation scams used to hit me up on my work number - I know they tape you and try to cut and paste you saying anything in the affirmative so avoid saying "Yes" or "Okay" or "I agree" - just get them the fuck off the phone and avoid dead air.

Watch yourself tho'. Calling back that 1-800 number will automatically sign you up for some shit and you'll have to battle the phone company to get that shit taken off. My shit was blocked for phone ordering which I told the operator and she got in their ass about it while I was on the phone - it took two calls tho'.

Some fools actually sent me a check for $4k and told me to cash it - that shit was poorly cut and pasted from two different companies. I found out who sent it, looked up the address with Google Maps and found it was some place in Canada that changes names frequently through one of those BBB sites. I got them back, nothing illegal, just some light Chris Hansen ish.

Road Rage that was not a scam and you need to take this serious. What they are doing is legal and they can sue you. This is what they call "junk debt" or "junk Deb collectors". Make sure they don't have a law suit pending as they can get a default judgment.

Find out who the collection agency is. Junk debt collectors get people because they never show up for court and a default judgment is awarded.

not bad advice

you should do your research....

I would contact the Federal Trade Commission (you can call or e-mail) to cover yourself before contacting them directly again.

I tell all collection agencies that call to buzz off. I know who I owe.

I had someone call them up and said they were my attorney and demanded their info and they hung up... Plus I just saw some shit on news 12 warning of the same scam originating form Georgia.. Also both numbers are known scam numbers with numerous complaints from people getting the same Verizon 2003 script. Matter of fact another woman got the same call yesterday from the same folks now whats the odds of a collection agency getting the same case from the same company and year 2003 during the same day..

"Someone is calling me saying I owe a debt for a Verizon phone from 2003 saying if I don't contact them within 24 hours there going to summons me to court mind you I never had a Verizon phone at all and they repeated my social security number and everything sounds more like they we're trying to confirm it more than tell it to me for security ppurposes I mean the last time I checked they verify your last four digits not your while ss# smh"

dont accept calls from unkown numbers, if they don't leave a message they weren't that interested in getting you.

When scammers call my pops, he tells them he's recording the call and is forwarding the communication/conversation to the appropriate authorities/police as needed. He says most of them hang up in 0.00002th of a second.

the bold part is very important.

when i went to fight the debt collector in court i was amazed at how many people didn't show up to court and automatically lost.

i'd say out of 20 people, 3 of us showed up, 2 of us got the shit thrown out and the other guy accepted the debt.

you don't show up to the court they will garnish your next paycheck.

follow my steps or hit up that board and it won't even get that far.

2003 debt is well beyond the statue of limitations.

that is not uncommon at all.

companies sell debt in bulk and they're categorized by the dates they were either established or went into default.

you stated they had your social, at the very least you owe it to your own identity to find out who they are because they have your social.

next time they call answer and record the call.

ask who they work for, a mailing address and tell them not to call you again.

if they call you again they have violated a law and if you can prove it, you can sue them.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) protects individuals against unfair and abusive practices in the collection of personal debts.

Federal Law prohibits Debt Collectors from:

Calling you repeatedly or continuously
Calling you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m.
Calling and harassing you at work
Using obscene or abusive language
Revealing your private details to a 3rd party
Attempting to collect false or inflated debts
Making frivolous threats against you
Pursuing collections after a request for validation
Contacting you after a cease communication notice

a $200 bill that is now $4000 sounds inflated.

like i stated before, tell them to validate the debt through a letter and they can't legally call you which could result in $ in your pocket.

i wish i knew this at the time when i was going through my nonsense but i didn't until afterwards.

nigga i know who i owe

let them call me with that bullshit if they want.

Yeah I was gon reply with some info if someone claims you owe tell to send you the stuff in writing (don't give your address if it's legit they should have it ) than hit they ass with a cease and desist letter...

But I been looking at this rolling ass for the last 20 minutes

EXACT same shit happened to me. Mofos KEPT saying they were from the sheriffs department and had a warrant for me. I hung up and called the sheriff depts warrant division and they said they had nothing on me period in the system. The chick assured me that she would know about it. She said its most likely a scam. Assholes called back a week later and after I told her, "Well ma'am I spoke to someone at the sherriffs dept........ "*click* Bitch hung up before I could finish.

What happened to the do not call list shit?? It don't even work. I get more telemarketing calls than ever now. I just answer and scream my loudest hopefully busting their eardrums. You know it's bullshit because when you first answer it's quiet then it clicks over to background noise and some idiot asking for you by name. I pause then scream my loudest.
