It's very underwhelming for someone to take a picture of a homeland security vehicle in a city that possess a functioning full service major international airport, a very unique American symbol, the Arch. An has random F-15 Air National guard patrols because of the Arch being a terrorist target. They used to be everyday 911 until 2009.

It's irresponsible to imply and monger fear when tensions are so high right now.

This was sometime during the week

Navy Veteran Fired from Drury Plaza Hotel for Posting Photos of Homeland Security Vehicles on Facebook

l9oVse.jpg

Chesterfield, MO - Yesterday should have been a normal workday for 28 year old Mark Paffrath, a Houseman at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Chesterfield. Instead, it turned out to be anything but.

Mark, a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the middle east, has been employed at the Drury Plaza Hotel for approximately the last year and a half. Yesterday, however that employment abruptly ended. Mark says that on Thursday after work he snapped 2 photographs and a short video of several dozen Homeland Security vehicles in the parking garage. He then uploaded them to his Facebook page. In his post he writes "why are all the cop cars here...I wonder if it has anything to do with Ferguson", he also included the hashtags #Ferguson #NoJusticeNoPeace.

On Friday, shortly after arriving to work at the Drury Plaza Hotel, Mark stated that he was called to the office of Jeff Baker, the General Manager. Upon arriving Mr. Baker advised Mark that he needed to remove the photos and video from Facebook. Mark immediately complied and removed the post. Mark then continued and finished his shift.

Saturday, Mark stated after being at work no more than 30 minutes, he was again called to the General Manager's office. Waiting for him was Jim Bohnert, Director of Security for Drury Hotels Company, LLC. Mark told ASN that Mr. Bohnert advised him that his Facebook posts almost cost the company a $150,000 contract with the Department of Homeland Security and because of this he was being terminated.

This however, was not the end of the conversation. Mark stated that Mr. Bohnert continued and said "you're a terrorist and you have dishonorably served your country by posting the photos and video". Mark pleaded with Mr. Bohnert stating "he never put the location down on the post". Mr. Bohnert replied "all they have to do is click on your name and see where you work". Mark stated that Mr. Bohnert ended the conversation with "if you repost the photos and video you will have the federal government knocking on your door and you will be incarcerated".

Mark told ASN that there is a large whiteboard which the hotel management writes notices to employees and on Friday, after he was told to remove the Facebook post the Front End Manager wrote a message that reads "The Department of Homeland Security Group: Confidential in nature, which means brag to your family about it after they check out".

We drove through the parking garage at the Drury Plaza Hotel on our way to speak with management for a comment. There were over 100 Homeland Security vehicles, row after row. If we hadn't known any better, we could have easily mistaken this for a Homeland Security garage.

Upon arrival at Drury Plaza I asked to speak with the manager. I was met by Tony Effinger, Assistant Hotel Manager. I advised him who I was and that I was looking for a comment on the termination of Mark for posting photos on the Homeland Security vehicles on Facebook. He immediately responded with "I was told I cannot make any comments on that". I then asked him if he could please put me in touch with someone who could comment on it. He asked me to hold on and picked up the phone. When someone answered, he said "Hi Alison it's Tony at Drury, sorry to bother you". He when to explain we were there and looking for comment. After hanging up he stated that we would need to leave our information and someone would get back to us. We have had no response from anyone at Drury.

I would also like to note, that while researching for this article, I found that Jim Bohnert was formerly an Assistant Special Agent In-Charge for the United States Secret Service from March 1991 to October 2011 and previous to that a Police Officer with the St. Louis County Police Department from August 1982 to March 1991.

Global Hawk
ss_GL-10001_001_734x265v2.jpg

The Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveillance aircraft. It was initially designed by Ryan Aeronautical (now part of Northrop Grumman), and known as Tier II+ during development. In role and operational design, the Global Hawk is similar to the Lockheed U-2. The RQ-4 provides a broad overview and systematic surveillance using high resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and long-range electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors with long loiter times over target areas. It can survey as much as 40,000 square miles (100,000 km2) of terrain a day.

The Global Hawk is operated by the United States Air Force and U.S. Navy. It is used as a high-altitude platform for surveillance and security. Missions for the Global Hawk cover the spectrum of intelligence collection capability to support forces in worldwide military operations. According to the United States Air Force, the superior surveillance capabilities of the aircraft allow more precise weapons targeting and better protection of friendly forces. Cost overruns have led to the original plan to acquire 63 aircraft being cut to 45, and to a 2013 proposal to mothball the 21 Block 30 signal-intelligence variants.[1] Each aircraft was to cost US$35 million in 2005,[2] but this had risen to $222.7M per aircraft (including development costs) by 2013.[1] The U.S. Navy has developed the Global Hawk into the MQ-4C Triton version for maritime surveillance.

An online video captured by resident Mike Arman reportedly shows Wilson refusing to allow him to record the incident and threatening to 'lock (his) a-- up.' Wilson arrested Arman on Oct. 28, 2013 for failure to comply but the charge was later dropped.

The Ferguson, Missouri officer who killed an unarmed 18-year-old is featured in an online video taken by a man who said Darren Wilson unlawfully arrested him and violated his rights.

The 15-second video shows an officer alleged to be Wilson in uniform in the middle of a conversation with resident Mike Arman, who made the brief recording.

Resident Mike The video begins with Arman asking the officer his name, and Wilson replies, "If you wanna take a picture of me one more time, I'm going to lock your a-- up."

Arman replies he is not taking a picture but recording the incident, then Wilson walks several feet toward him.

Arman asks Wilson if he has the right to record the incident and Wilson replies "no" and says "come on" as the video comes to a shaky end.

The video shows only a small glimpse of the encounter but Arman writes in the description of the video posted Friday that Wilson violated his First Amendment rights, arrested him unlawfully and lied on the police report.

Wilson is the officer at the center of the fatal Aug. 9 shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown. Wilson has said he was threatened by Brown and said the teenager tried to grab his gun. But witnesses said Brown had surrendered before Wilson shot him.

A grand jury is currently mulling whether to indict Wilson and the decision is expected soon.

The incident has sparked months of protests in the St. Louis suburb as well as national attention and debate on police brutality and racial profiling.

If you wanna take a picture of me one more time, I'm going to lock your a-- up.
A police report of the Arman incident written by Wilson states he went to the home on Oct. 28, 2013 because Arman had multiple derelict vehicles on his property, which violated a local ordinance.

Arman told The Guardian he believes Wilson lied on the report and should have been allowed to record the incident. He said he began filming moments after the officer approached his home.

The Ferguson Police Department declined to comment on the video and a spokesman told the newspaper he did not believe it was Wilson though the officer's name appears on the police report.

The officer wrote he told Arman he would issue him a summons when the resident became upset and claimed the city was harassing him.

The officer then stated Arman took out his cell phone and Wilson said only a voice recording of the conversation would be acceptable — but Arman told The Guardian he was only told that after he was already arrested.

He also wrote he told Arman he would not give him his name and that he could read it off of his nameplate. He also said he told Arman to remove the camera from his face.

Wilson then charged Arman with failure to comply and transported him to county jail. He wrote in the report that Arman laid on the floor for about 10 minutes and said he was having trouble breathing and was unable to feel his arms and legs before being booked. Wilson wrote Arman later calmed down and acted normally.

Arman told The Guardian the charge was dropped after he told his lawyer he had video footage of the incident. Wilson also charged him with violating local pit bull regulations but those charges were also dropped when Arman showed his canine was actually a bulldog, the newspaper reported.

The 30-year-old told the newspaper he was working on his porch and was being cordial, but wanted to record the conversation to safeguard himself.

Missouri Gov. Declares State Of Emergency Before Ferguson Grand Jury Decision

:Gov. Jay Nixon (D) issued an executive order on Monday declaring a state of emergency in Missouri as the nation awaits a grand jury decision in the case of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

Citing "periods of unrest" in the city of Ferguson and other places in the St. Louis area following Brown's Aug. 9 death, Nixon announced the executive order as a measure to protect the citizens and businesses of Missouri from "violence and damage."

"I further direct the Missouri State Highway Patrol together with the St. Louis County Police Department and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to operate as a Unified Command to protect civil rights and ensure public safety in the City of Ferguson and the St. Louis region," Nixon wrote in the order, noting that citizens reserve their right to assemble peacefully.

Protesters have already begun demonstrating throughout Ferguson, St. Louis and the surrounding areas, as the grand jury's decision on whether to indict Wilson could come at any moment. On Monday, a group of protesters gathered in Clayton, where the grand jury is deliberating. Others staged a "die-in" in University City, lying down on the street and pretending to have been shot.

What do we do in an official sense as representing the BGOL community members? The brainiacks on this board must have an idea on how we all can participate in an official way.

If this doesn't wake Black America up....nothing will. They are saying in every action that blacks are serfs whites are Lords, unless you become a millionaire your rights aren't equal.

Well if that John Crawford situation didn't wake anybody up then this situation will not either.

Unfortunately i think you're probably right.
I was reading comments on Facebook under the post about the national guard being activated.
I believe it was msnbc's page.
It was infuriating.
I was about to start going in on them cacs but i said to myself, I'd just be wasting my time.
They have their mind made up already.

My sources say they won't indict him. Mark it down. He testified for the grand jury. That's a confidence move. Ill say its a 90% chance he walking and reinstated.
