The Syndicated Network Television Association is reporting that The CW Network will premiere a new block of live-action television called "One Magnificent Morning" this September. The Saturday morning block with 95% national coverage will include "10 half-hour inspirational and entertaining programs that explore family-friendly topics from healthy cooking and living to fashion to animal care."

Many stations in The CW currently air Saban's Vortexx block of animation and live-action programming on Saturday mornings. Saban gave ANN the following statement:

I have very fond memories of being a child, cuddled up on the coach in a blanket, watching Saturday morning cartoons. I vowed I get back there one day lol. Fucking jobs and life

I use to get up from 4 in the morning to catch cartoons, you can thank all the feminist and angry mom groups for killing Saturday morning cartoons

Where does it say FOX kids, Disney XD, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network won't be showing cartoons anymore?

I used to get up really early on Saturday morning and watch cartoons. Those were the days. They used to have the Saturday morning pre show where they gave a sample of all the new Saturday morning cartoons, there are none. I mean, cartoons today sucked anyway, but still kids today have nothing to look forward to on Saturday morning like we did. 70's/80's babies had it good

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

I wondered when that was finally going to happen on broadcast TV. With cable and the 24 hour cable networks the whole after school and Sat morning block that was traditionally reserved for kids when they were out of school is completely gone and unnecessary.

Now THAT kinda makes me feel old. Before cable all we had was after school during the week and sat mornings. That is now officially a thing of the past.

I can remember when there were only 3 channels and TV went off completely at night like around 1 or 2am or something.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

In Chicago we had the morning block of kids shows before school like Capt Kangaroo and Ray Rayner and Clutch Cargo.

Then at lunch time around 12 pm or so they used to have a cartoon lunch hour. Stuff like Bozo The Clown, Magilla Gorilla and other 60s cartoon reruns for an hour or so. Bullwinkle used to come on at noon for awhile.

Then by 2:30 at the earliest the after school block would begin. Prince Planet, Battle of the Planets, Space Giants and all sorts of stuff.

Cartoons would end at about 4 or 5pm maybe. Of course the sitcom reruns were great for us kids too or the whole family actually.

Saturdays would start about 6am till about noon. Then sports and movies and specials or nature shows would take over.

Before ESPN all we had was Wide World Of Sports and just regular football, basketball or baseball games.

A few cartoons would come on Sunday morning as well till maybe 10am or 11am or something.

Whole different world back then.

Yep. After 2 or 3 am this is all you would see:

Johnny Carson used to stay on for 2 hours or 90 min I think. I forget which. 12 midnight the Tomorrow Show and that's it. This was before infomercials existed.

its not the same, even though I can watch any episode of dbz or justice league anytime I want if I see it on tv I'm going to watch it.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Wasn't animation, but I used to love Kid Bits. It was a local educational show. Used to play School House Rocks and those singing cheese commercials between segments.

Cable tv and lack of discipline: At least kids knew the hours when their shows would appear. Now, fuck a schedule, cartoons on demand. Soccer moms gotta bus their kids to practice.

Yeah man that site takes me back. Forgot about Garfield Goose.

Saturday nights at about 7pm I think was Creature Features.

Boy you REALLY taking me back now:

That was back when local stations used to hire their own people for in house programming and promos like Kids shows, characters, contests like Dialing for Dollars and all types of goofy little cheap local productions. SCTV was a parody of those local TV type promos and characters.

Man you taking me WAY back now. I definitely feel like a geezer now.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

I'd much rather have today's choices. We used to only have cartoons in the morning, after school, and on Saturdays. Kids have them 24/7 these days(they can catch Qubo if they don't have cable).

What's amazing is that news hasn't been cut down. Most people have devices and don't need so much news. And the weather report isn't needed. They just need to scroll that or give a brief picture before commercial.

All these news blocks will be next. I remember when news was just 6 and 11.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

fuck broadcast tv.. my kid can watch cartoons on a variety of networks including netflix on my cpu, laptop, tv, cellphone or tablet anywhere, anytime. but just wait till 30-40 years from now. there will be something new and cable wont exist anymore.

Creature Features on 9 and Svengoolie on 32. Just to let you know how far I go back, I'm talking about the original Svengoolie not Son of Svengoolie.

the news. I don't understand the popularity of the fucking news. It's depressing as hell. I would much rather do anything then watch the news. It's all bad news it's mostly negative stuff about black people, black people committing crimes and such it's like masterbaker special. you can get the majority of the necessary news from the front page of Yahoo

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Glad to be born in the late 70s with 80s cartoons. My future kid(s) wont understand Saturday Cartoons unless i show them  No Hanna Barbera, Ruby Spears etc.

Man I don't even remember when HBO used to go off. By the time I got to it I think it was 24 hours. HBO was like The Holy Grail back then to us. It was a minute before we actually got cable. I used to go to my older cousin's house to watch cable before we finally got it.

damn no blip and bolt? no dragon ball z kai (even tho they just repeated the same 2 or 3 story archs) no yu gi oh??

:smh: who the fuck wants to watch a cooking show at 9 in the morning on a saturday??

I go back farther than that man. When that stuff came out I wasn't really watching it. The earliest Japanese anime type stuff I was into was Prince Planet Battle Of The Planets and later on Star Blazers. Of course there were the Godzilla movies Ultraman Spectraman and the live action stuff like Jonny Sokko and all that.

The live action stuff was just as good as the cartoon stuff to me back then.

remember there are still many people that cant afford cable or Internet and the local stations are the sole source of entertainment and propaganda.

cable and internet should be priority in most households

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Speaking of cartoons, is there a live stream for boomerang anywhere? I switched cable providers a couple of years ago and that is the only channel I miss.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Creature Features on 9 and Svengoolie on 32. Just to let you know how far I go back, I'm talking about the original Svengoolie not Son of Svengoolie.

Yeah Svengoolie was like WGN's rival back then. Svengoolie was more wacky and comical with his horror movie show. I guess you could call it campy. My favorites were the Godzilla and King Kong movies. War Of The Gargantuans and if I'm not mistaken I think the Abbott and Costello horror comedies.

I think I first saw Night Of The Living Dead on Svengoolie's show. That was the only horror movie that actually slightly scared me a little bit as a kid. Besides The Exorcist that is but that was too serious and major of a film for those Creature Feature type local shows. They specialized in schlocky B movie material. It was cool and fun tho as a kid.
