Former Homicide Investigator says Michael Brown was probably murdered
by Dr Boyce Watkins
Ken Williams is a 20-year veteran of the Brockton police department in Massachusetts. He’s also one of the lead representatives on the wrongful death case of Rodney Mitchell, a college student who was killed by police in Sarasota, Florida (this case is equally egregious to the one that took place in Missouri).
Williams has spent over 15 years investigating homicides for a living and finds himself deeply concerned over the way the Ferguson Police Department has handled the recent killing of 18-year old Michael Brown.
Recently, during an appearance on AC360, I used the term “murder” when referring to what this officer did to this young man. I couldn’t understand how an officer could justify shooting someone who was trying to get away from him. The most recent witness to the Brown shooting confirmed what others have been saying, that Brown was trying to get away from the officer, who then shot him several times after he’d already put his hands in the air to surrender.
Williams says that the defensive posturing by the Ferguson Police Department is indicative of a cover-up. So far, the department isn’t releasing information about the officer involved, and has even gotten to the point of arresting and firing tear gas at journalists for covering the story. Williams says that if there’d been negative information to be released about Brown or his past, they would have released it already. He also says that the fact that they haven’t done so yet reveals that they have nothing to use against him.
Williams also says that this may even appear to be a case of murder in the first degree, since the officer had a cooling down period where he could have reflected and contemplated on his decision to kill Michael Brown, but ultimately failed to do so. At this point, it appears that the Ferguson Police Department is the one that should be on trial, for this investigation may reveal some very deep forms of police corruption.
Williams, who is an expert witness in wrongful death trials such as this one, says that during all of his years as a homicide investigator, he’s never seen anything like this. This is a very interesting analysis.
