I just started jogging... I was feeling good about myself until I read this article.

I ran seven miles last week and that shit was a breakthrough.

Can Jogging 20 Minutes Burn Belly Fat?

Carrying extra fat around your midsection increases your risk of disease. Belly fat is receptive to traditional methods of weight loss including a modified diet and exercise. Jogging requires little extra equipment and you can do it almost anywhere. Although the minimum recommendations for exercise made by the American College of Sports Medicine include 20 minutes of jogging, or other vigorous cardiovascular exercise, three days a week -- this may not be enough to reduce belly fat.

Significance​
Men with a waist size greater than 40 inches and women with a waist size greater than 33 to 35 inches are at a greater risk of certain chronic health problems including heart disease, stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep disorders and some cancers. Belly fat is a specific type of fat called visceral fat that encases your internal organs. Visceral fat may also secrete hormones that negatively affect your health.

Jogging​
Jogging is one strategy for addressing belly fat. A study published in the “Journal of Applied Physiology” in October 2005 indicates that jogging the equivalent of 20 miles per week helped participants lose belly fat, while jogging the equivalent of 11 to 12 miles per week only helped prevent the accumulation of additional belly fat. If you jog at a pace of 5.5 mph, you will cover about 1.8 miles total. Even if you jogged 20 minutes every day, your weekly mileage would total just 12.6 miles – enough to prevent additional gain, but probably not enough to induce a significant loss of belly fat.

Strategy
You need to exercise 60 to 90 minutes per day, five times per week, to lose weight – including belly fat. To jog 20 miles, you should aim for about 40 to 45 minutes, five times per week. Modifying your diet can also hasten your belly fat loss. Eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins while shunning foods high in sugar, refined white flour and saturated or trans fats can also help.

Considerations
Jogging may be uncomfortable or cause injury if you are overweight. The Cleveland Clinic notes that if you are more than 50 lbs. overweight, cycling may be a better choice for exercise because it does not put stress on your joints and ligaments. If you are new to exercise, consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.

This type of fat can lead to diabetes, cancer and heart disease, according to Time.com. Both jogging and running help to reduce visceral fat, improving your health.

Interval Running​
You can lose belly fat by running or jogging the same distance and pace daily, but if you want to burn the fat faster, implement interval running, says a study published in the "Journal of Obesity." Interval training was once used only by professional athletes, but has now become common for even for the novice. Interval running simply means you run at a certain pace, such as 6 mph, and every 2 minutes you sprint as fast as you can for 30 seconds, and then return to running at 6 mph. You could also start by jogging at 2.5 mph for 2 minutes and then run at 6 mph for 30 seconds.

Benefits of Interval Training
Interval training will cause your body to burn more calories, which means burning more fat. The intermediate bursts of energy maximizes the amount of fat you will burn. Another important benefit of using jogging and running interval training is that you will improve your cardiovascular fitness ability. Over time you will be able to run longer, faster and with more intensity. Combining jogging and running into a single exercise will also help make your workout routine more interesting, keeping you motivated.

Considerations
Running on a treadmill can help measure the speed and time of your jogging and running routine, making your workout consistent. Combine running and jogging with a low-calorie diet to achieve the desired goal of losing your belly.

This is all you really need to know. I think the first article is being sensationalistic. You don't need to jog that much to lose belly fat. I dropped 30 lbs a couple of years ago and I never ran or jogged. Only did brisk walks at about 4.0 mph and made major changes to my diet.

Fat really can't be spot reduced anyway. It's just that the belly is usually the last place the body burns fat.

Going on my experience and my peers, most of the work comes down to dieting. You can do all the vigorous exercise you want but if your diet is poor then there's no point.

As already stated, fruits, veg, fish and as much fresh food as possible will aid you losing day.

What a lot of people tend to underrate is weight lifting (especially women) because they believe they'll bulk up if they lift weights which is silly. You want muscle to replace that fat. So working on your core muscles is essential if you're trying to lose belly fat: crunches, sit ups, pull ups. You want to work that midriff area as much as possible so once you lose the belly fat, you won't see excess skin. A lot of people neglect this and go straight for cardio.

Finally, for me personally, jogging is boring. I personally skip and play any sports that involve a lot of jogging/running with the occasional breather, which is why football (I refuse to call it the "S" word) is ideal. In a five-a-side game, you can burn so many calories quickly whilst working on pretty much every muscle.

And once you lose that weight, swimming too also helps tone your body. It's fun and you can go at your own speed as there's not that much resistance in water.

That jump rope will absolutely assist in your metaphorical cram sessions. Use it as a supplement or on those days your schedule or the weather wont allow you to go running.

I think the article is based on jogging as the sole form of exercise.

Still, I hope you're right. The idea of jogging the equivalent of 11 to 12 miles per week just to prevent the accumulation of additional belly fat had me shook for a minute.

I dropped 30 lbs a couple of years ago and I never ran or jogged. Only did brisk walks at about 4.0 mph and made major changes to my diet.

I think I can force myself to exercise more than diet... Exercise is a focused, concerted effort; dieting is all day...

Interesting... I haven't been able to force myself to do sit-ups yet, which is why I was questioning the effect of jogging in that area, anyway. You would think those would spot muscle build and spot weight reduce at the same time.

Jogging is a waste of time you can lose more weight working out using hi reps and doing compound movements like deadlines and squats. You can run up stairs or do sprints jogging is just gonna give you those skinny legs

i've lost 40 lbs over the last 5 months by modifiing my diet dratistically.
I've hit a wall and will need to implement running into my runtine but GODDAMN I hate the shit

All diet. Once you get that in control, you'll drop a ton of weight. Exercise keeps everything tight as the fat melts off.

if you do a lot of running, do not forget

to replace those minerals you lose when you sweat...

I eat a lot of root veggies and cabbage, but when I dont

I take the gmc daily mineral supplement..

or eating a banana and taking some vit c, would help keep you immune

system up as your body rebuilds itself..

especially if you run in cold weather...


for a really good run, I take some ginseng and drink a cup

of green tea, but make sure you take water, as green tea

will boost your immune system and give you energy, but it also

can cause your body to dehydrate faster than normal..


so get your hydration on!!!

Sex too. 30 minutes of good sex burns mad calories. I'd rather fuck alot and eat right. I don't have the time or patience to jog 45 minutes after a long day of activity.

Also, adhere to your blood type diet or optimum results. For my blood type, clean and lean meats, veggies and working out like a madman in the morning has yielded great results.

i've lost 40 lbs over the last 5 months by modifiing my diet dratistically.
I've hit a wall and will need to implement running into my runtine but GODDAMN I hate the shit

I am about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks into a less than 9 grams of sugar per day
and almost no bread I have had a couple chicken sandwiches with wheat

I was too lazy to do jogging so I cut mostly all the junk food, soda and candy out of my diet and lost 24 LBs..

everybody's body reacts differently to exercise and CHANGE of diet. NOT dieting. start by getting a notebook and count your calories. you will be amazed at how many you consume per day. and you'll see that we are taught to eat until stuffed and not eat until full. that will go a long way towards weight loss. leading to...you cannot spot reduce. you just have to lose overall weight until your belly gets to where you want it to be. as for jogging, I wonder if that kind of impact is good for a person who is overweight? I'd say go to the gym and get on an elliptical. zero impact and you can use the other machines to tone up. my .02

started with a meal replacement program - 5 meals a day/160 calories/ high protein

lost 12 pounds in a week but realized i wouldnt be able to sustain the program since it was pretty expensive and arduous

the key for me has been calorie counting. Its not for everyone but it has done wonders for me. Downloaded myfitnesspal app. It scans items giving you the nutrional value and calories.


I EAT 1000 calories a day most of the week on the weekend i might splurge here or there but i still make good choices (high protein and smaller portions, diet soda instead of juice/sode, brown liquor on the rocks or neat instead of beer)


a typical day
breakfast - protein shake 160 calories
lunch - tuna sushi roll with brown rice 196 calories
dinner Lean cuisine pasta w/ bacon 260 calories
snacks - pineapple chunks 50 calories
buffalo wings 140 calories


if a take the kids to mcdonalds i grab a salad. if they want chikfilt i get chicken tenders no fries

I know that is an arguable saying of mine, but eating "right" is mostly common sense and a little googling.

Doing cardio is just a temporary fix. After-burning is what helps people lose weight dramatically and keep it off. But it involves something people usually grimace at when hearing it.

Lift fucking weights (after-burning). Not no bitch shit. Really pick up some weights that give you some resistance. The more muscle you have on your body the faster your metabolism will be.

I'm cut as a motherfucker and I never do cardio. Fucking never!

Lift weights. That's it :dunno:

1k calories is nowhere near enough the caloric intake for a male. How tall are you? Weight? How long you been on this program?

This nutritionist you went to needs their license revoked and a thorough ass kicking.

Anyone that is okay with losing that extreme an amount of weight in one week isn't worth the piece of paper their licensing is printed on. 12lbs of weight loss in a week is NOT healthy.

Go to the gym, get the fuck away from them machines, go to the free weights, pick up the heaviest shit u can move and do 3 sets of 6-8 reps.

Cardio can help, but u only need 20-30 minutes max 3 times a week, and done about 3-4 hours before/after your weightlifting.

:lol::lol: I remember that my most successful diet looked just like this. I ate buffalo wings and peanuts at night when I was doing the Atkins diet.
