Neil deGrasse Tyson is more than just an excellent tour guide through the cosmos — he’s a true voice for our endangered space program. In this piece, he reminds us how our passion for space missions began and makes a compelling case that we must not abandon our quests and dreams.
 
This should be interesting considering at least half of BGOL doesn't think we've ever been to the moon...
 
it would be interesting to see the private sector make up the short fall and step into the breach so to speak but while the idea of space travel/exporation is sexy the realities of it isn't.

Any private company willing to spend the millions upon millions it would take isn't or wouldn't do it just to go tap rocks and look for remnants of water and microbes. They'd do it for something thats EXPLOITABLE and adds to their bottomline.

theres a reason why all of the travel discoveries and expeditions thru-out history have been government funded rather than privately funded.

I'm skeptical of the moon landing, my father and I debated this often. Yet I agree with Tyson, lets allocate money to NASA and lets keep searching for tomorrow. Stopping science is never a good idea

Fam technology has advanced exponentially since the USA went to the moon, you cannot be naive to think NASA has just gone quietly into the abyss and given up the space program

I would make an educational guess that they have vehicles that are capable of interstellar travel within the solar system..

I mean just on their STS vids of the space station some real questionable shit is caught on cam that they wont even acknowledge

The only thing about the space program is the technology we get from it. America/united nations should've built a base on the moon, our technology would be even more advanced than it is now.

This ain't no different than someone saying earth is the only planet with life yet you look up and see billions of stars in the galaxy and think no way earth is the only planet with life..

I like Neil, I believe he believes what he' a saying and is not just another paid shill. I don't think he has been made privy to the black budget federal programs or fringe private programs. I'm sure those programs are seeing the kind of large scale funding he is referencing.
