The Cleveland Cavaliers officially signed No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins to a contract on Thursday, meaning he cannot be traded until at least Aug. 23.

Wiggins has been involved in trade discussions between the Cavs and Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a deal that would send Kevin Love to Cleveland. Because of league rules on rookie contracts, such a deal now cannot be completed for 30 days. Wiggins, who signed a four-year deal, will have a starting salary of $5.5 million after the Cavs gave him the allowed 20 percent premium on the rookie scale, sources said.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the Wolves' preference, based on the offers made for Love to date, is completing a trade with Cleveland centered on Wiggins. But the 30-day window leaves open the possibility that another team could step in with an offer to trump Cleveland's best pitch.

As ESPN.com reported earlier this week, Chicago is making a renewed trade pitch for Love -- with forward Taj Gibson and newly signed Nikola Mirotic believed to be at the heart of the Bulls' offer -- while Golden State also could re-emerge as the biggest threat to Cleveland if the Warriors relent on their long-standing reluctance to include Klay Thompson in their offers for Love.

As things stand, sources say, Minnesota likes the idea of acquiring Wiggins better than anything else that has been offered thus far because Wiggins is believed to have superstar potential. The Cavs nonetheless face a nervous 30-day wait until Wiggins is eligible to be moved.

Also on Thursday, the Cavs signed second-round pick Joe Harris to a three-year deal worth $2.7 million with the third season being non-guaranteed, sources said.

love ain't going anywhere anytime soon...I'm getting the sense wolves is the holdup and they asking too much...teams can easily wait them out

They should keep him and not trade him, dude clearly has the talent to be a Scottie Pippen type. All these trade talks for Kevin Love, you would swear that white boy is the next Larry Bird! :smh::smh::smh:

I'm more of a football fan than basketball but I think the Cavaliers should keep Wiggins. Love is decent but I wouldn't trade my young No.1 overall pick for him

this is GS opportunity to make somethin happen.....or any team for that matter.

I'm hoping that happens.

Cavs need to wait the Wolves out. Only a Cleveland team would fuck up a situation when the team has this type of leverage.

Man I've been trying to tell people this for the longest!! ESPN and all the other "talking heads" been saying Minn holds leverage. Now, I know I'm biased an all but I'm not crazy. Love wants out and Love wants to play in Cleveland. Fuck GS and da Bulls. Minn can trade him all they want, he won't sign am extension for any team. Wait Minn and his contract out. Get him unrestricted next season AND keep the future phenom Wiggins!!!

Wiggins is going to be BIG in the league and vital to keeping Kyrie and the Cavs going once LeBron is done in 5 yrs. We'll have the bigger cap but with all the attendance/merchant sales Gilbert will not take a second thought about paying the luxury tax if need be. Lbj and Love is a now combo, but Irving/Wiggins is the future!!

This. Plus teams will get more desperate near the trade deadline if things aren't panning out.

Cavs should just wait to see how Wiggins gel with James & Irving.

Won't cleveland have the money to sign Love outright?

If you really want to play with Lebron - wait a year. He can't even get his team to the playoffs....I know the west is deep but PHX won 8 more games with NO stars.

Exactly. Wait them out.

It's Wiggins/Parker next in the east. And Gilbert will pay to win.

Lebron can opt out next year and sign for less(with a 2016 opt out where he can sign for more making Gilbert pay more). They can then sign Love. Tristian will be restricted. Let him bounce and keep Bennett(providing Bennet shows up this year, which I believe he will).

But ultimately, this is on Love. He can force his way out. If he wants chips, he says no team but the Cavs.

Basically.

As for the Bulls.
I heard the offer is Taj, Butler,, Nikola, Doug and a draft pick for Love.
Whether some of those guys have proven themselves or not, imho thats too much for a dude that aint all that.

Imho.....Kevin is a good player, but i think he'll regress once he gets on a good team w/ good players.

Its amazing how people are projecting one player who never played a day in the NBA, the same player who had a up and down, only year in college, to be the next Pippen, while predicting a guy who has been a scoring / rebounding machine over the past 4 years to be a flop.. In reality if Wiggins were to put up half of Love numbers of 27 pts and 12 rebounds, most people would call it about right.
