The only great thing Riley did was have the cap space available to sign them in 2010.
Otherwise, he was just lucky that out all the three choices (Cleveland, Toronto, and Miami) the PLAYERS decided that Miami was the best choice.
The players not only made that decision, they recruited players like Ray Allen.
Now what else did Riley do once he had those three? At the height of their powers, they were going to come out of the east regardless of the coach and the supporting cast.
But what have they done to IMPROVE THE team. Has Riley worked the international pipeline? Has he drafted well? He has developed any talent. Have they made the extra step of just going further over the cap to keep a team of sufficiently talented role players not to get raped by the Spurs?
No.
If Wade, Lebron, and Bosh could leave 20 million collectively on the table every season to stay together, Riley and Mickey could have spent an extra 20 million per season (over what they already did) to ensure the team was talented enough and had the depth to compete with the western conference.
What did they do, the cut productive players and filled the roster with guy who never contributed (Oden and Beasley) solely because they didn't want to spend the money.
You have a once in a generation player on your team, and you fuck it up because you don't want to spend an extra 20 million? GTFOH. If Mickey wasn't going to spend the money, Riley needed to be doing something else to get productive players on the squad...not guys who were never going to play.
And you know why they didn't spend the money, because they thought Lebron could do all their work for them so why spent the extra effort and money.
And not only did Riley not do his job, he disrespected his player after the Finals' loss and leaked his personal family info to the press. Negro please.. and you're talking about Riley and Mickey didn't fuck up? They did everything they could to not keep this thing going.
The reason Lebron is bouncing because they got raped in the Finals (despite him balling) and Riley and Mickey illustrated they were satisfied with the state of the team. They cut key role players and didn't pick up anyone to replace them.
