~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Free Agency Starts - 7/1 12am ~*~

the 10th needs to hurry up and get here already
im tired of the talk and anticipation.
im ready for the madness and laughter and hatred to begin.

Life is interesting.

Just find it amazing how a kid can grow up in an unstable home, and relative poverty...

Not once...

...but twice - and in a four year period.

My poor son(s).

I don't understand how Houston can afford Bosh at that rate, and still afford to pay Parsons. To me Parsons is a top 5 small forward in the league, he has a higher value than Gordon Hayword, meaning he should be looking to get around 10 mil for his value.

Parsons
Harden
Beverly
Howard
Bosh

Sounds championship caliber to me

It does

It is

Some dude from Houston sports radio was just on 105.3 out here explaining that Houston could still keep Parsons even if y'all get Bosh and not be too deep into the tax :smh:

Good on paper but with Portland, OKC, SAS, CLIPS and the rest of the west Houston ain't fucking with them even if they add bosh

Parsons is very good but top 5?

James
Durant
Melo
George
Leonard
DeRozan
Iguodala
Gay
Deng
...

All but certain Bosh ain't passing that up.

If bosh take that deal I think Melo will step in that stop in Miami

Sometime more is going on behind the scenes nobody talking about... Plus with all the smoke screens and leaks something major is bout to happen and it won't involve Lebron

Melo will command the ball more, but will give you a lot more buckets. Just a better scorer than Bosh.

However, defensively? :smh:

Maybe Lebron can get that nigga to commit to playing D.

Point is, no way you resign Melo to 3rd option status like you did Bosh.

He maybe can't play D, but he's an offensive force.

Parsons can be retained because we can go over the cap to sign our own restricted free agent.

He and his agent are playing ball. They know that the rockets are gonna pay him once they make their big splash in free agency.

Once we get THAT guy, the rockets will tell Parsons and his agent GO OUT AND GET THE BEST DEAL YOU CAN, WE'LL MATCH IT.

Melo will be the first option scoring and second option no doubt about that which is good for Bron because of the facilitator he is

Melo would avg 30 easy and without much effort playing with Bron, plus u can get 15-19 from Wade and granger giving u 10 and mcrob giving you 10.. The offensive isn't the problem

The concern will def be the defense

We beat Portland regular season match ups but not when it mattered (playoffs)

Swept the season series against SAS

OKC and CLIPS are scary because they're young. But if you give me that potential rockets starting 5 i posted against those teams, I like my chances.

Funny how the ones that's really shittin' on the Bosh to Houston deal are Miami fans (king t/beatdown)

Ok got me there, top 10 lol, still up there in pay tho, and i'd def put him over Deng, and as a scoring threat he is way more efficient than Gay

Yeah top ten for sure. Id pick him over some guys in my list even cause he is young and improving. Im surprised Houston doesnt have him locked up yet.

Cavs explain why they took down Dan Gilbert's letter to LeBron James
By Mike Prada  @MikePradaSBN on Jul 7 2014, 2:00p 49

USA TODAY Sports
Dan Gilbert's infamous letter to LeBron just disappeared from the Cavs website. Here's their explanation.

By now, you've probably noticed that Dan Gilbert's famous Comic Sans letter to LeBron James, an active link on the team's website even four years later, was taken down for good Sunday night at the same time rumors circulated about a meeting between the Cavaliers and James' agent to discuss a potential reunion. This is the page that now exists in its place.

That's a simple redirect to the Cavaliers' news and features page.

The timing of the decision, given Cleveland's recruitment of James for a possible reunion in Cleveland, is impossible to ignore. But according to the Cavaliers, the decision to remove the letter was actually about closing a loophole they already believed had been shut.

"The letter was removed years ago from the Cavs.com website, but over the last week, it was discovered that it still existed from this external link to a stagnant archived page," Cavaliers director of communications Tad Carper told SB Nation. "It was on the content management system platform that was used back in 2010."

Thus, everyone within the organization proceeded as if nothing strange was going on. But when James' free agency started to kick into gear, one employee noticed a spike in traffic to a page that was believed to be purged from the Internet. A decision was made to delete the letter again, but the process was more complex because the team did not have direct access to the site's old CMS. Thus, the team had to ask the league to do it for them.

Cavaliers just might be the favorite for LeBron
James' rumored meeting with the Cavaliers Sunday is of course why the letter's deletion is significant in the first place, but Carper downplayed the timing of the move beyond noting the spike in traffic to that page.

"Quite frankly, we weren't looking for [the letter] because we knew we deleted it," he said. "If [it still being an active url] would have become apparent a year ago, we would have deleted it too."

Because this is hilarious, though, we're going to ensure the letter is still preserved in some form, which Carper said he understands will happen and has happened elsewhere. This way, though, at least it won't be associated with the team's official website.

Congrats! The Heat signed the NBA's tallest combo guard: sbnation.com/nba/2014/7/8/5… #jebron #mcbob

The Miami Heat's new big man doesn't play like one
By Tom Ziller

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports
New Miami Heat free-agent signing Josh McRoberts is unique: a big man that has the statistical profile of a point guard.

Josh McRoberts is not normal. He's a large human playing basketball, which is rather mundane in itself: the NBA is lousy with large humans, and being a normal-sized human is far more of an outlier. (Ask Isaiah Thomas' free agency prospects for proof.) What's abnormal about the 6'10 Josh McRoberts, a large basketball-playing human, is that he plays like a much smaller guy. A much, much smaller guy.

McRoberts agreed to a full mid-level exception deal -- four years, $23 million -- with the Heat on Monday. One assumes he'll be slotted in as the starting center next to Chris Bosh (assuming he returns) or will be the first big man off the bench in small lineups. But honestly, he's better served as a back-up or replacement for Dwyane Wade, because McBob is not really an NBA big man. In fact, he's really the league's tallest guard.

There are three things that stand out about McBob in 2013-14 statistically: he took a lot of three-pointers, he racked up a lot of assists and he didn't rebound very well. If you look for players who performed similarly to McRoberts in those three categories*, you find the following list.

* For our purposes, "similar to McBob" means at least four threes attempted per 36 minutes, a total rebound rate below 10 percent and an assist rate between 20 and 30 percent. We only included players with at least 1,200 minutes.

If you remove the upper limit on assist rate, you get lots more point guards, including Stephen Curry and the aforementioned Isaiah Thomas. Basically, McBob is a combo guard trapped in a big man's body.

Given that Miami's biggest issues in the Finals were interior defense and rebounding, I'm not sure McRoberts was the right choice. But they do call McBob "JeBron" for a reason. Maybe this signing is just insurance in case LeBron chooses Cleveland. (Which might happen because of the McBob signing, thus making it a self-fulfilling prophecy by Pat Riley.)

Q: How could the Heat operate as a capped team (signing McBob & Granger w/ exceptions) & also sign Melo w/ cap space?

Report: Heat inquired about adding Pacers’ Lance Stephenson dlvr.it/6G1NLh

I don't know why people shit on Lance.

He was the only nigga on Indiana worth a damn against Miami.

Looks like Mickey willing to dip in that tax

Just looking at how deep the west is you have nobody competing in Houston PG against the west top PGs

Lillard, Paul, Parker, Westbrook... Now tell me how is that hating? You putting Beverly on them niggas? That ain't hatin bruh

The Heat is the most feared dynasty in basketball history.

Everyone praying that it ends, and Inkosi goes back to massa so they can openly root for him again.

What's this Heat Dynasty bullshit? That shit BEEN over the minute Wade knees left him. Ain't no fucking Dynasty.

Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft

Growing expectation that the purpose of LeBron's meeting with Riley will be to inform Heat of his decision to return to the Cavs.
8:38 PM - 7 Jul 2014

damn would love to see riley's face the moment this happens if true

Its not about dipping into a tax. Y'all have 10 million to spend in free agency. You can dip into the tax to pay your own guys but signing free agents? And with McRoberts and Granger signings.......how much cap space y'all have now?

Who did the Heat throw out there and point guard in their 4 championship appearances? Dwight, Bosh, Parsons and Harden? All of those guys are the best players at their positions except Parsons who is solid as well. Shit won't even matter who you put at point.

That Rockets team is cold as fuck. And to be honest even if its the West.....i'd rather make more money and play with Dwight, Parsons and Harden than take a pay cut and make less playing alongside POSSIBLY Lebron, Napier and Josh McRoberts.

You talk a whole lot of dumb shit

Difference is Lebron period... And Houston don't have a Lebron to mask that pg deficiency that's the difference..

You saw how came time lillard washed Beverly and harden up

I would not put my future in these guys hands ........
