I'm looking to relocate to the south and was hit up by a recruiter for a job a medical imaging software support tech paying in the range of $55k-$60K. I'd prefer to get a job in the Atlanta or D.C. areas but might consider Raleigh. What's the vibe, women, night life like in that city? Is that salary range sufficient to live comfortably there?

I looked on CNN's salary calculator and my current salary is nearly double what it would translate to down there so the wage offered looks like I'd be living decently. Plus I'd find it hard to imagine my bills being anywhere near as high as they are in NY

Charlotte is a legit "Big City". It reminds me of Memphis.

I currently live in Raleigh. Raleigh has about 400,000 people but still have that small town feel to it (there's deer running around downtown and through most neighborhoods). Only about 1/4 of the people are from here. Most came from small towns around N.C. Oh Yeah, there's a lot of you NYC knuckleheads here. I mean A LOT! The job situation her is great (although these young people ain't taking advantage of this) we have the R.T.P. which is like our silicon valley in nearby in Durham. Crime is not that bad, I'm 46 and is not scared to walk any street in Raleigh (yes, even Bragg/East street). Former Mayor Meeker really revitalized downtown. There's ho's galore her. Downtown Durham is about 30 minutes away. Greensboro 1hr. The beach 1 1/2 hours.

I recommend looking for a house in North Raleigh up to Wake Forest, or the city of Knightdale, or Cary/Apex area. Let me know if you need to know further.

There's 170 bigtime companies in the RTP. IBM, Cisco, Bayer, ect. If you got a clean record and can pass a drug test there is no reason you shouldn't be making good money. I set up 4 young cats for interviews and none of them showed up My ex works in the RTP and pushing 80K . Seriously if you find a place hit me up because you can get a lot of house for your money.

In Raleigh now. Life is great! I work in sales for one of the major tech companies in the RTP (with commission will probably end around 65-75k). In my mid 20's and there are women everywhere. I came here from Detroit 2 years ago. It really depends on what your looking for. I'm 30, single, make around 60g, no kids, and love beer and white girls from time to time. I like it because the beach is 2 hours away, dc Is 4 hours, Charlotte is 2.5, and the airport can get you around fairly easily. Raleigh is known for all the craft beers it has but I believe most are shit, if rather drink Stella than most of the bs here. In terms of women, it is fine fine fine white girls but good luck picking them up unless you do online dating. I feel it's hard to pick up a cute white girl and not some trash chick out here if you go out with a group of black guys or solo. Either you need to go out with a group of white friends so you seem less threatening, or have co workers or friends set you up or you basically need to play the numbers. It's a lot of black women but coming from the north I feel raleigh has some of the ugliest and just plain stupidest black girls in the country. Just dumb from the dates I've been on with them. If you are in to black bars and clubs, hit up west street or the warehouse district, that's where the all black spots are located. On glenwood there is a club called solas that is the trendy club where young cute black girls go. If your into either bars or white girls or just chillin hearing good music and having a beverage, hit up the bars on glenwood or Fayetteville. They are your basic mixed bars with no cover, cheap drinks and bad white girls with a few black people scattered. Food is pretty good, weather is great, my black friends and myself have never had a issue with police here . None of us have ever been pulled over. Most people here are transplants. The sportsbar by my house is a Baltimore ravens hub and my other favorite spot is a steelers hub on Sundays and there are other spots in particular for giants, Red Sox, Florida state, Michigan wolverine, patriot, and redskin fans. If your into strip clubs there are three I know about in raleigh. The capital caberet is the big one by the airport that is mixed and 10 dollar cover . It's the generic wannabe Vegas set up. There are a couple others that are black oriented but they are kinda trash but then again I'm not a strip club guy. If you have other questions pm me

When your taking a job in a different city, even though it sounds kind of messed up, I like knowing what kind of people I'm getting advice from. If I'm getting advice from a guy who has not had a job in three years and someone working 50 hours a week and making 40 grand who is not married, it makes a difference in The opinions. When I moved here, I had a couple friends already here from Michigan who were teachers who loved beer. Talking to them about the pros of moving stood out to me cause we had similar interest and we had similar jobs so they understood my mindset. But I'm not trying to knock anyone whose situation is different

I'm pulling down 52k a year, but paying 900 a month in child support for 2 kids, and I can still maintain. Most people can live like ballers. You can get a good apartment her for under 650. Like I said Raleigh is still a small town type of place.

A very diverse culture and good true hip hop spots. There are plenty of jobs there and the cost of living is good. NC is a nice state. Beach and mountains.

Thanks. I started sending out a lot of job applications for the Raleigh/Durham area today. Hopefully one of them bites and gives me a solid salary. The original job that prompted me to consider Raleigh actually has a range of $50-70K so I'm definitely hoping to land that on the higher side of the range.

Like 3 points of a triangle
Raleigh is east, Durham is west, Chapel Hill is south (south of durham)
Right in the middle of the 3 cities are where most of the IT jobs are
Average income is probably around 50K, so you can still live good on that, especially if you are single with no kids


Basically most white people stay inside the city of Raleigh
Most black people stay in Durham or the surrounding cities of Raleigh like Garner, Knightdale
Apartments & houses are a little cheaper in Durham
But Durham has more crime than Raleigh
The area has 3 major colleges (Duke, UNC, NC State)
There are also a few other smaller schools here
If you hit the downtown area at night, you'll run into lots of 20 something college kids ready to hook up



One thing no one touched on yet is...... THE FUCKIN TRAFFIC IN RALEIGH !!!
Fam the rush hour traffic going back & forth to Raleigh is rough
Most jobs are located in ONE CENTRAL LOCATION
So everyone goes one way to get there & the same way to get back home
Location is everything



A nice 1 bedroom apartment in Raleigh will run you about $650-$800 a month
That will get you an apartment complex with its own pool, exercise room, etc
Its probably $50-$75 less per month in Durham
You will mostly find houses around the surrounding cities of Raleigh (Garner, Wake Forest, Knightdale)
