To make it more clear. Wade doesn't work a traditional job where pay is based on performance. He has a guaranteed contracted amount in a industry where most become unemployable after 34 years of age. If he can get a 4/5 year deal that pays him a penny more than his previous 2 year deal its a win. The value in his deals will always be money over time. Duration is immaterial. Dollar amount is all that matters.

If Wade made his 40 mil over two years then signed a deal making 12 per for the next 2 (look at what meeks just signed for) that puts Wade at 64 mil.
Heat are not signing him to 4 years 64 mil. If they sign him to 4 years 45 mil, he still left almost 20 mil on the table.

I disagree. If Wade opted in and took that $40mil do you really think in 2 years someone would value him at 12mil a year? He's on the decline NOW. Extending that money gives him a better chance at prolonging his rate into retirement.

The 27-year-old averaged 10.1 points, 1.7 three-pointers, 2.5 boards, 4.9 assists, and 0.9 steals in 41 games with the Lakers during the 2013-14 season and would give the Clippers a solid insurance policy for Chris Paul.

He could've helped the Heat. His defensive skillset along side Lebron would have come in handy.
The funny thing is, if Wade gives up 42 mil over 2 years for 50 years over 4, he would play the last two years of that contract for 8 millon or 4 mil per season.
