I was telling a friend that the cooling break was a fraud by FIFA to favour Europeans, and the guy told me that my anti european and pro black agenda is getting too extreme.

It is, this isn't the first time the WC played in extremely hot temperature and there was no break.

You could be right, but Mexico looked as if they needed it as well. I believe both teams have to agree on the terms before the match.

TERESOPOLIS, Brazil (AP) — A Brazilian court on Friday ordered FIFA to introduce mandatory breaks for players in World Cup matches played in high temperatures.

A labor court in the capital of Brasilia issued a temporary injunction saying the breaks are required near the 30th minute of each half so players can get hydrated.

The breaks are now mandatory when temperatures reach 32 degrees Celsius (89.6 Fahrenheit) in the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature index, which takes into account factors such as time of day, cloud cover, wind, humidity and location.

The court said in a statement that the ruling was made after nearly two hours of failed negotiations involving FIFA and local prosecutors on Friday.

FIFA said it had already recommended the breaks in such weather conditions and told The Associated Press that the labor court had merely confirmed the pre-established guidelines.

The court earlier said that the injunction was necessary because there was nothing assuring that FIFA would enforce its own guidelines.

FIFA said that no World Cup match so far has had temperatures higher than 28 degrees Celsius (82.4 Fahrenheit) in the heat stress index.

Prosecutors wanted the breaks to be implemented when the temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) in the index, but the judge said that he would accept the higher FIFA limit because it wasn’t evident that the small difference would “endanger the players’ health.”

“I think that obliging FIFA to enforce its own norm is not a measure that jeopardizes the competition,” judge Rogerio Neiva Pinheiro said in his ruling.

He said FIFA must pay 200,000 reals (about $90,000) for each match in which the ruling isn’t enforced.

The court also said football’s world governing body is responsible for registering the temperature during matches by using certified equipment.

Brazil’s players’ union took legal again against FIFA recently, demanding it changed kickoff times of all 24 matches that were scheduled for 1 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) to avoid subjecting athletes to the risks of playing in “intense heat.”

FIFA had said at the time that it would not change the start times, or make the cooling breaks mandatory, because it spent nearly two years analyzing the tournament’s schedule and always took into consideration the players’ health.

FIFA had previously altered the starting times of seven World Cup matches in the most hot and humid host cities.

Winter is starting in Brazil, but it remains hot and humid in many of the 12 host cities, particularly in the northeastern and northern regions.

There was special concern with the jungle city of Manaus, where humidity is expected to significantly affect players’ performances. It happened in the England vs. Italy match last week, when players and fans complained of the conditions.

This is probably the first true test to show the eagles are a world class team now. They need to beat france.

They drew against the USA, drew with Mexico, drew with Iran, some how beat B&H, lost against Messi...they have had their test, we have said enough of "they played well, they tried ooooh",Nigeria need to beat a world class team at a world class tournament to be respected.

WhoScored's rankings suggest Nigeria are the 5th top team in the round of 16 based on performance so far grin Just behind Brazil but ahead of Germany and Argentina. No matter how they came up with this their chart at least...

As a Nigerian who remembers the glory days
and with all due respect this is not true.

Apart from our goal keeper we do not have one world class player.
We were lucky to get through the group stages

I have tears in my eyes reminiscing atlanta 96
okocha, amokachi, kanu

we will never have a generation of players like that again

I want Nigeria to win too, but I think France will be too much tomorrow.

whatever they gave Musa the night before the Argentina vs Nigeria match please increase it and soak Mikel in it overnight

The direction of the wind can affect a team.

Two 15 minutes would guaranteed that both teams would be affected equally because both teams would play both ends of the field.
forgot we were talking about this

yea but at the same time the wind could be calm for the first half and then pick up at one end during the 2nd and you won't get any sympathy losing that way.

i just think it would open the game up during the extra time. look at hockey....it has the golden goal rule and you see a lot of attacking going on (granted you see more attacking in the sport in general but you see my point)

I totally agree. Musa was a fluke against Argentina as most Nigerians were surprised he was in the team. Mikel is slow as FUCK when bringing the ball forward. Nigeria will have to bring their A game from the kick off and not wait to be down a goal before kicking into gear. I can't see them upsetting France though. Also just like Ghana the team is having money issues. They are owed money from the previous games.

Sent from Surulere, lagos. Nigeria.

I have yet to understand why he hasn't played for a top club. He could easily bench half of the goalkeepers in the Premier League. :smh::smh:
Nope he doesn't. Half the Senate is going to the world cup costing the tax payers almost 10 million dollars. At the same time police men can't get modern ballistic vests and helmets.
doesn't goodluck has more pressing issues to deal with than watch the super eagles, just saying

Like bringing back our girls? I would love for Nigeria to win but they suck at defending set pieces.

Mikel needs to sit on the bench, he slows the game down too much and isn't confident in this tournament.

They've got all of Africa backing them.

He plays for the team that came third in France. That's a top club.

If you follow French football fairly closely, you'll know that while Lille is a good team that produces players, they're not exactly the upper echelon of world football. Nobody is screaming to play for them before PSG or Monaco.

If you look at their roster, you can see that Enyeama is the only player that is of an elite status. Everything else is sub par to say the least.

He should be playing for an Arsenal, a Barcelona, a PSG, clubs that are household names, with consistent shirt sales and Champions League play.

yo..he straight tackled the guy in the box.. tackled..

I'm listening ton the radio broadcast, Tommie Smyth is damn near flipping out saying that should be a penalty kick.

Other dude is saying that's why players flop in the box
