~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Free Agency Starts - 7/1 12am ~*~

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

Zach Randolph has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay in Memphis.
He had a $16,938,333 player option for next season, but that was only a bargaining chip – not a mechanism to leave the Grizzlies.
The negotiations worked.

Really, this works well for both sides.
Randolph’s 2014-15 cap hit remains $16,938,333, but the Grizzlies wouldn’t have had cap room this summer even if Randolph had opted out and re-signed with the same salary spread equally over three years.
Now, he’ll make less in 2015 (when Marc Gasol becomes a free agent) and 2016 (when Mike Conley becomes a free agent).
Randolph will be 35 when this contract ends, and he’s more reliant on athleticism than both believe. By the end of the deal, the power forward could be significantly overpaid.
But he values loyalty, and with this extension, the Grizzlies proved they share the same mindset. This not only keeps Randolph in Memphis, it makes it easier for the Grizzlies to keep Gasol and Conley too.

New Knicks PG Jose Calderon says the triangle offense fits him really well & he will "try to get everyone involved."

Is it gonna help his shitty ass defense? I do think offensively it will cater to Jose's skills though. He couldn't do it here though. Which is a shame because he's a great passer but couldn't do it here for some reason.

We gonna miss his 3 point jumper though.

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

I think Heat and Cavs are the only two choices. Personally, I think he stays in Miami. If he doesn't, he goes to the Cavs.

Why would the Cavs have to trade Wiggins to get Lebron? If anyone is going to be traded, it will be Waiters.

But Lebron likes #Napier, so who knows.

If Lebron doesn't go to Houston if the rumors are true of them getting Melo along with Howard. He's not about winning championships. That Big 3 would be all time great big 3.

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

Oh and I'm down with the "bulls" organization for a little while.

I was heated at a draft party all night

Fuck you garpax

Can't wait till pooh bounce on you hoes

I see another "sit out" season for protest

Why y'all drafting CACs fam?

If Lebron doesn't go to Houston if the rumors are true of them getting Melo along with Howard. He's not about winning championships. That Big 3 would be all time great big 3.

Yeah that big three would be nasty bro

Straight up nasty

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

Then who is?...

LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE IS BETTER; I LIKE K LOVE, I THINK HES GOOD/GREAT BUT THE HEAT NOT GETTING HIM BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING TO TRADE FOR HIM; HE WILL BE TRADED THIS YEAR; IF HE WAS A FREE AGENT THIS YEAR WELL THEN WE WOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT BUT HES NOT SO ALL THIS IS IS ENTERTAINMENT:lol::lol:

Pacers put full focus on Lance Stephenson after NBA draft

1403868531000-HEATINDY-BD78.jpg

Brent Drinkut / The Star
Lance Stephenson's contact becomes a priority for the Pacers after the NBA Draft.

When the Indiana Pacers' front office began the offseason much earlier than it had hoped, Thursday never ranked high on the list of priorities. With only one selection in the NBA draft -- a forgettable 57th pick – the Pacers would not have unearthed a cultural or foundational fit inside the Barclays Center. So while the team spent several weeks shuffling in more than 40 players for pre-draft workouts, neither the big day nor the so-called deep draft mattered much in the end.
One player, however, still tops the Pacers' priorities, which is why the team shipped their lone pick to the New York Knicks in exchange for cash – just more money on the books to help keep soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Lance Stephenson.
Just past midnight, team president of basketball operations Larry Bird grumbled to reporters: "That was a waste of two weeks."
LOCAL TALENT: Vonleh goes 9th; Harris goes 19th
AIRBORNE HIBBERT: Was flying photo a fake?
However, as the team turns its attention towards the truly important aspect of the offseason, Bird appeared as confident as ever about Stephenson returning to the Pacers.
"Lance wants to be here, there's no question about it," Bird said. "He wants to be here. So now it's just about getting the terms right and trying to get him back."
Indiana flirted with the idea of trading up for a first-round pick, but those excavations proved empty as teams snatched away the players the Pacers were targeting. So instead of drafting a prospect who would eventually be cut, the Pacers picked a plan that team owner Herb Simon usually vetoes – to sell the pick.
Though the amount of cash received for the rights to the 57th pick, who turned out to be French forward/center Louis Labeyrie, were not announced, Bird said that the Pacers chose this route specifically for free agency purposes.
"This is one year we're tight on money," Bird explained. "If our guy wasn't there, we weren't going to take a stab at it because we've got Lance, we've got Lavoy (Allen), we've got some other guys we're looking at (signing) In free agency you never know where you're going to be.
"My owner don't like to sell picks," Bird said. "He doesn't want any part of that, but that's the only option we had."
ANALYSIS: Stephenson is the key to Pacers' offseason
AGITATORS: Where does Stephenson rank among sports' top pests
The 2014-15 salary cap and luxury tax thresholds will be announced after the July moratorium period, however projections have the figures at approximately $63.2 million and $77.0 million, respectively. Fitting with the tradition of Simon's wishes, the Pacers plan to spend up to the luxury tax, not exceeding it.
However, even with this budget ceiling, the team wants to offer Stephenson, a fourth-year pro coming off a career season, a handsome contract. Interested teams can begin making contact with players after midnight on July 1st, the start of free agency.
"That's the way you're supposed to do it. Lance wants to be here, they're not going to rush to any decision," Bird said. "I will call his agent Tuesday morning and go from there and see what happens. I know Lance wants to be here, he needs to be paid like everybody else has been paid and we're going to do what we can do to keep him.
"I've got a certain amount I'm going to pay him and I'm not going over that," Bird said, repeating a sentiment he expressed during the end-of-season press conference several weeks ago, "but it's going to be a very good contract. … I know what I can do to make it work and it's a very, very fair contract."
Earlier on Thursday, before hunkering down in the draft room, Bird sat and spoke with Stephenson for the second time this offseason. During the conversation, Bird made it clear what he expected out of Stephenson if he re-signed with the team – the ear-blowing incident and other behaviors against LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals still rile Bird. However, even after this one-on-one, Bird came away convinced that Stephenson wanted to remain in Indiana.
After returning from a brief vacation, Stephenson has virtually lived inside the practice facility working on his game. George Hill, another player who should start paying rent there due to his incessant workouts, has impressed Bird with his efforts to improve.
"Every day. Every day. They tell George to go home. Take a day off," Bird said. "He's committed himself to the summer to get better. That's all I've want to hear.
"I think George Hill's going to be a better basketball player," Bird continued. "You just don't work that hard every day and not get better. Hopefully, we can bring Lance back. He's going to work hard and he'll be better, so I look for good things next year."
So even as Hill still stars in many fans' trade fantasies, Bird reaffirmed his starting point guard's status as a fundamental element of the Pacers and their future.
"I believe in keeping the core of your team together. Now, you might make some moves and try to add to it but I like our core," Bird said "I think we've got to be more consistent and I think we've got to have better ball movement and I think players got to be held accountable and they will be. You can speculate all you want but I'm pretty set with our core group and I'm going to give them another shot. They almost got there two years in a row, I think they deserve another shot."

Dwight and Melo need LeBron, he doesnt need them. They aint got no jewelry, he do. Him goin to Houston would be doin them a favor.

Chicago is the better situation now...
Houston would pax the luxury tax to get the big wigs...great
Miami probably best situation, because their roster will reflect pieces that James, Riley and Spo feel are needed.

***For some reason I think there's a chance they stay under the cap***

The Spurs are cheaply ran, but stay competing for the Western conference title. Create a system and find the players to work the system,(players who understand the roles and know their skill set).

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

the spurs aren't cheap

this is what it looks like when you pay players what they're actually worth.

nobody is underpaid or overpaid

they're paid what they should be.

there's a difference.

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

#Sixers Hinkie: Jason Richardson picked up player option for 2014-15. Byrone Mullens did not and will be a free agent. #76ers

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

To win his two titles, yes.

Now what does they have to do wit Dwight and Melo bein ringless?

Everybody needs somebody is my point

You know that

Ya boy Bron needed Wade to not be "ringless" anymore and Dwight and Melo combined with Lebron would solve Melo and Dwight's "ringless" issue

Fam had Dumars picked melo , dark I would have never gotten drafted until late in the first round or not at all

The hype behind Darko was big at that time. Even if the Pistons didn't pick him he would have still gone Top 5.

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

why would he go to houston and have a tougher time in the playoffs???? Who is beating the heat in the east, please answer that???? .

I've been telling people that. The East's third best team last season was the fucking Raptors! The raptors had the third best record in the east. The Raptors! All you need to do is beat a wildly inconsistent Pacers team to get out of the East. I would take my chances with that over that blood bath of the western conference. Shit, the Spurs almost got knocked out by the 8th seed in the West.

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

Naw. I don't think he was going top 5. He was supposed to be a modern version of Tony Kukoc. Tony was just an alright NBA player. I don't know what Dumars was smoking but there was not THAT much hype for Darko. Melo had just lead a team to a national title where he DOMINATED as a freshman. Melo was a no-brainer at the #2 spot and most teams weren't going to take a risk on an unproven euro cat (that they all saw look average in international play) over some real college studs. That draft was deep man.

Re: ~*~2014 NBA OffSeason Thread - Draft 6/26 ~*~

Doubt Trevor goes anywhere now...

"For those who like Trevor Ariza as a Miami option, Martell Webster's back surgery would seem to make him even more valuable to Washington."

"Martell Webster had "microdisectomy sugery" to repair a herniated disc - out 3-5 months before he can get back to basketball"

"Ben Standig @BenStandig 2 minutes ago
This is now the 3rd time Martell Webster had microdiscectomy surgery. Also in 2010 and 11"

"I feel really bad for Martell, who has worked hard to overcome his health issues. As for the Wiz … well, they knew his history."

Carmelo Anthony plan make a decision 2nd week of July

Anthony opted out of his contract with the Knicks recently to become an unrestricted free agent and can begin talking to teams July 1. A source said there is currently no frontrunner for Anthony's services. He is expected to meet with the Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. There was no mention of the Miami Heat. Anthony hopes to visit the aforementioned teams in their respective cities during the opening days of free agency. At the moment, no other teams are expected to get a meeting.

The source said Anthony loves New York and playing for the Knicks, but there are still questions surrounding the franchise. The main variables: the direction of first-year president Phil Jackson and first-year coach Derek Fisher, and how long it will take the Knicks to become a winner again. Anthony yearns to be in a winning situation now and knows he would have to be patient if he stays with the Knicks, the source said.

The Knicks can offer Anthony the longest contract and the most money at five years and $130 million compared to the four years and about $96 million Anthony would earn if he were to leave for another team. Jackson has said that he asked Anthony to potentially take a pay cut to remain with the Knicks. But the source also said Jackson only talked to Anthony about the concept of taking a pay cut and that Jackson said he would be willing to offer a maximum contract if that is what it took to re-sign Anthony. The source added that Anthony, 30, viewed opting in to the final year of his contract for $23.3 million next season without signing an extension as risky at his age.

Jackson was evasive when asked by reporters Thursday night if he would be willing to complete a sign-and-trade with Anthony if he opts to go elsewhere. The source added that the Knicks and Anthony have had no discussions about the possibility of a sign-and-trade.

Anthony could visit the Rockets and the Mavericks on the same day, the source said. Anthony has an offseason home in Los Angeles, which could make it easy to visit the Lakers. The source emphasized that the plan is to get the visits completed quickly at the start of free agency.

I don't know but I assume it can't get any worse than Calderon. Calderon ain't here for defense. There's going to be enough guys on this team that his D won't matter as long as they surround the right guys around him. Dirk defense ain't shit either but you don't see him as a liability when you got Chandler or Marion next to him.

Them idiots scouts had Darko rated high. I don't know how he he would've went but he was going atleast top 10 especially around that time when all those euro's was going top 10. Everyone wanted the next Dirk. Nobody letting a hyped up big man go past 10.

NBA champion Boris Diaw crashed a bachelorette party

By: LAKEN LITMAN June 24, 2014 6:01 pm ET

The San Antonio Spurs won the 2014 NBA Championship. So now what? For Boris Diaw, that means crashing bachelorette parties on lakes in Austin, Texas.

"First time in lake travis. Its a lot of fun!!! pic.twitter.com/MYWoDUspAr"
BqrLqc9CYAEA7bl.jpg

Last Saturday, Diaw was in Austin — just 80 miles north of San Antonio — enjoying a sunny day on Lake Travis when, according to Reddit user bettercallsaul3, he heard his name being called from across the water and before he knew it, was at a bachelorette party.

Story: My friend was at Lake Travis for a bachelorette party when she saw that Boris had tweeted about being on the lake for the day. She told her friends and they were joking about riding around the lake shouting “BORIS”, and he actually heard them from a boat away saying his name. Boris immediately swam over to celebrate with them and asked if he could kiss the bachelorette. She also claimed that they sang “All I do is win win win no matta what.”

And then this happened:
