In 18 years as a professional boxer, Floyd Mayweather has built a 45-0 record while facing just about every style of fighter imaginable.
The way he sees it, though, there’s one thing he hasn’t done.
“I haven’t brought my best out yet,” Mayweather said this week during media day for his May 3 fight against Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight is the third in Mayweather’s lucrative six-fight deal with Showtime.
“I’ve had some good fights — some people say the Diego Corrales fight, the Arturo Gatti fight. … The majority of time I’ve beaten fighters with probably 40%” of his maximum effort.
Even though Maidana is a considerable underdog, Mayweather insists he isn’t overlooking him.
Argentina’s Maidana, the WBA welterweight world champion, is a brutal puncher with an unorthodox style, who improved to 35-3 (31 by knockout) with a decision in December over Adrien Broner.
Mayweather said Maidana “deserved the opportunity. He’s a champion. He’s been fighting and proving himself for years now. This is a guy with an 80% knockout ratio, and [there's] nothing like champion vs. champion.”
Although he’s known for his elusiveness in the ring, Mayweather said he’s prepared to go toe-to-toe with Maidana.
“I’m not going to do a lot of moving,” he said. “I’m going to come straight ahead and do what I have to do.”
That said, Mayweather plans to be patient as always in measuring up his opponent.
“In the sport of boxing, it’s like a game of chess,” he said. “Every move has to be thought of before you make the move, whereas in checkers you just make reckless moves. But in chess, you take your time and the moves are thought about. You study the board before you make a move.”

He hasn't been truly tested in over a decade. Zab won some early rounds, Sugar Shane got in a stiff right, other than that...nothing

Cotto and Oscar tested him also.

while the Cotto fight wasn't close in the cards he gave Mayweather a tough fight. Oscar actually beat Floyd on one judges card and was probably ahead in all until Floyd pulled it out in the championship rounds.

Floyd is a master in the ring.... I just hope maidana doesn't catch him with one...

Cotto did gave him a tough fight!!..he went hard on floyd..:yes:

His first fight against Castillo was probably the only time you could say he possibly lost a fight. That was a long ass time ago though....

Yeah. Oscar won that fight early and gave it away when he stopped poppin his jab. That's probably the worst Floyd's face has looked after a fight.

If that's the case he needs to quit holding back. I'm tired of these boring ass fights he's had

Hilarious.

If he's already dominating fighters at 40%, how much more exciting do you think he'd be to you at 100%? You want the fight to last 30 sec now?

this dude is a all time great I think his issue is he needs another dominant champ who is loved by the fans to challenge him in the ring sometimes being undefeated isnt a good thing we want to see fighters face adversity.

His fights ain't boring as fuck? Floyd don't even snap nobody's neck back. Tons of powerless jabs. Yea it gets him the win but that shit is like watching 9 innings of baseball

Chop Corley hurt him in their fight. He recovered and won, but he was hurt google it.

Hey look. I'm not about to waist my time getting into a back in forth with you whether or not Floyd's fights are boring. That's your opinion, I just happen to like defense. Some people don't like watching the Seahawks play. I happen to like defense. Some people didn't like that 6-9 Alabama vs LSU game, I happen to like defense. Some people complain about Floyd's fights cause he don't get into a war with his opponents, I happen to admire the fact that he destroy the next guy without getting a blemish on his face.

:dunno:

I can respect your opinion. I'm not 1 of these its my opinion or its wrong kinda of guys. And since you say you like defense it makes sense. Them shits just be hard to watch. I think I fell asleep on the last 2 fights hes had

I'm curious...what was the last boxing match you watched?

I'm aware of this fight but I can't say Chop Chop really tested him. Yeah he had him hurt but as I remember it Mayweather pretty much dominated the fight and dropped Chop Chop two or three times.

Just like the Shane fight. Shane had him hurt but Floyd still dominated the fight.

If so, it'll be an overhand right to the jaw or ear by Maidana. Floyd leaves his chin up when he combos. Broner mimicked Mayweathers style and got caught with a looping punch. Shane, Burton and Diego caught him with the same punch. Zab, too.

How to beat Floyd: get inside, belly shot, uppercut, followed by a cross.

Stop lying son.

Couple of weeks ago?

That shit wasn't even a week ago yet. He just fought Saturday.

Whenever the fuck it was. I have a life that doesn't consist of trying to remember when niggas fight.

Now if you have any valid points on the discussion at hand speak em

we need that manny fight next

Not happening but even if it did people would just say he waited until Manny was shot to fight him and thats the only reason he beat him.

People are already starting to say Manny has lost a step ( even though he looks the same IMO) after Marquez KO so nobody would give him credit for dominating Manny now even though Manny never had the skill set to beat him in the first place.

fixed it for ya

I'm not even a Floyd fan like that but this BS son.

You used the perfect word......Broner mimics his style, he doesn't actually know how to do it or use it effectively. He's just doing a Mayweather impression.

As fsr as your analysis on how to land on Mayweather I agree you have to get inside and make it rough but nobdy is landing a three punch combo like you described on Mayweather and hes most effective at avoiding body punches so I dont see it happening.

The main key in beating Mayweather is a consistent hard jab and the ability to cut off the ring and fight inside.

I cant make any valid points against someone who isnt making any himself.

I've noticed people who use the "boring" argument against fighters like Mayweather seem to not really have knowledge of or really be interested in boxing outside of watching the big name "event" type of PPV matches like Mayweather.

Like I don't watch MMA unless its a really hyped ppv fight and as soon as that shit goes to the ground I lose interest and it gets boring to me.

But someone who really knows that sport and is really interested in all aspects of what MMA is loves that.

Now your right I'm not watching ever no name fighter that comes on espn or Showtime. I grew up watching Tyson evandor Lennox Roy Jones. Their fights were exciting.

And I only watch ppv mma fights and that shit is exciting

Everyone keeps bringing up that fight, but he hurt his shoulder in that fight, so he was basically fighting with one arm, and he still won the fight. Then he gave him a rematch, and he dominated Castillo!!!
