As a book reader, the Jaime Cersei thing is way more tame on the show.

He really showed that this episode between his interaction and deal with the Red Viper to him immediately starting to groom his grandson to take the throne right in front of his grieving daughter as they stand over his deceased grandsons barely cold corpse.

Ain't no honor among the wallmen. 1 woman...left alone around 100 men...as the dude said in Taken, "Good luck". It was only a matter of time before someone got her. She may not be safe whereever he took her, but She was going to be raped in 2-3 more nights tops, and at least where she is now Sam won't have to worry about who did it AND, if he has the stones, he can kill the man who did it and be okay with it. He couldn't kill anyone on the wall and couldn't even look for punishment from the superiors if someone did rape her.

Yeah Podric is truly ride or die, and I'm glad Tyrion cared enough to save him because they would have come for him eventually.
I think Sam made the smart decision. Even a whore house has to be safer than being around a hundred rapists and murderers. At least at the brothel can choose whether or not to give up the pussy. They'll take that shit at Castle Black. In addition considering their about to be stormed by Wildlings, some who are cannibals, I think he did what was best.
